Moving a file with html and php not working - php

'm trying to upload a file(actually move it from a directory to another) using PHP. The problem is, every time i load the html, after i select the file to upload and press submit, it redirects me to a page that actually saves my .php file instead of the file i'm trying to move. Do i need to give permissions to a program? I am working on ubuntu 14.04.
<html>
<body>
<form action="upload_file.php" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data">
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="file" id="file"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>
And this is the PHP script:
<?php
$allowedExts = array("gif", "jpeg", "jpg", "png");
$temp = explode(".", $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
$extension = end($temp);
if ((($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/x-png")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/png"))
&& ($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 20000)
&& in_array($extension, $allowedExts)) {
if ($_FILES["file"]["error"] > 0) {
echo "Return Code: " . $_FILES["file"]["error"] . "<br>";
} else {
echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br>";
echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br>";
echo "Size: " . ($_FILES["file"]["size"] / 1024) . " kB<br>";
echo "Temp file: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"] . "<br>";
if (file_exists("upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"])) {
echo $_FILES["file"]["name"] . " already exists. ";
} else {
move_uploaded_file($_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"],
"/home/laurentiu/Desktop/asd/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
echo "Stored in: " . "/home/laurentiu/Desktop/asd/".
$_FILES["file"]["name"];
}
}
} else {
echo "Invalid file";
}
?>
Okay, now I've moved on a server.It prints:
Upload: launcher_arrow_ttb.png
Type: image/png
Size: 0.3017578125 kB
Temp file: /tmp/phpRanbFV
Stored in: /home/laurentiu/Desktop/asd/launcher_arrow_ttb.png
but nothing is uploaded. Moreover, when i var_dump the function it prints FALSE, so the function move_uploaded_file does not execute. Why i do not know...

This means your web server is not configured to run PHP files. Instead of executing PHP instruction in the file, it sends back the file like it would do with a plain text file.

in php file you are getting your file as
$_FILES['uploaded']['name']
which should be
$_FILES['file']['name']

Can't find Uploaded folder in php?

I've created two files namely (index.html) and (upload_file.php) in my "var/www/html/nns" folder. Here the codes....
//index.html
<html>
<body>
<form action="upload_file.php" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data">
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="file" id="file"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>
//upload_file.php
<?php
$allowedExts = array("gif", "jpeg", "jpg", "png");
$extension = end(explode(".", $_FILES["file"]["name"]));
if ((($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/x-png")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/png"))
&& ($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 200000)
&& in_array($extension, $allowedExts))
{
if ($_FILES["file"]["error"] > 0)
{
echo "Return Code: " . $_FILES["file"]["error"] . "<br>";
}
else
{
echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br>";
echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br>";
echo "Size: " . ($_FILES["file"]["size"] / 200000) . " kB<br>";
echo "Temp file: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"] . "<br>";
if (file_exists("upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]))
{
echo $_FILES["file"]["name"] . " already exists. ";
}
else
{
move_uploaded_file($_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"],
"upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
echo "Stored in: " . "upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"];
}
}
}
else
{
echo "Invalid file";
}
?>
Finally i've created myown folder namely "upload" in "var/html/nns/". In order to upload an image using index.html then it shows in....
Upload: new_bar.png
Type: image/png
Size: 0.211895 kB
Temp file: /tmp/phpjSn4x8
Stored in: upload/new_bar.png
But i've didn't find any image in my folder... what happens??? am I missing something???
Try using an absolute path to the upload folder rather than a relative one, such as:-
$source=$_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"];
$destination=$_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/uploads/'.$_FILES["file"]["name"];
$result=#move_uploaded_file($source,$destination);
Make sure, you have provided the write permissions i.e 777 to your upload folder.
Add a dot and a dash in front of the folder name.
./upload/
If the above solution is not working, try changing the permission of the upload folder.

PHP 405 not allowed

I have some issues with my webpage. I'm creating an app for Android which will can send image to http address. So I took an example from w3schools for upload script. The problem I have is that when I try to upload file from my computer (the app is not ready yet) I have an error 405 Not Allowed and some sign "nginx". Can you help me fix the problem?
Here is my page:
<html>
<body>
<form action="upload.php" method="post"
enctype="multipart/form-data">
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="file" id="file"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>
And the php script:
<?php
$allowedExts = array("gif", "jpeg", "jpg", "png");
$temp = explode(".", $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
$extension = end($temp);
if ((($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/x-png")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/png"))
&& ($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 20000)
&& in_array($extension, $allowedExts)) {
if ($_FILES["file"]["error"] > 0) {
echo "Return Code: " . $_FILES["file"]["error"] . "<br>";
} else {
echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br>";
echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br>";
echo "Size: " . ($_FILES["file"]["size"] / 1024) . " kB<br>";
echo "Temp file: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"] . "<br>";
if (file_exists("upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"])) {
echo $_FILES["file"]["name"] . " already exists. ";
} else {
move_uploaded_file($_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"],
"upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
echo "Stored in: " . "upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"];
}
}
} else {
echo "Invalid file";
}
?>

How to store and display an image in MySQL database

I have a problem in storing and displaying image. The code doesn't work. I want to upload the image in the folder "img" and display it.
This is my code :
<html>
<body>
<form action="upload_file.php" method="post"
enctype="multipart/form-data">
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="image" ><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>
upload_file.php
<?php
$allowedExts = array("gif", "jpeg", "jpg", "png");
$temp = explode(".", $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
$extension = end($temp);
if ((($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/x-png")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/png"))
&& ($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 20000)
&& in_array($extension, $allowedExts)) {
if ($_FILES["file"]["error"] > 0) {
echo "Return Code: " . $_FILES["file"]["error"] . "<br>";
} else {
echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br>";
echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br>";
echo "Size: " . ($_FILES["file"]["size"] / 1024) . " kB<br>";
echo "Temp file: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"] . "<br>";
if (file_exists("img/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"])) {
echo $_FILES["file"]["name"] . " already exists. ";
} else {
move_uploaded_file($_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"],
"img/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
echo "Stored in: " . "img/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"];
}
}
} else {
echo "Invalid file";
}
?>
Well, you gave a different name for the file in the input file tag in your form.
Change this
<input type="file" name="image" ><br>
to this
<input type="file" name="file" ><br>
and it should work. Let me know if it doesn't.
You may also consider putting the contents in upload_file.php in an if-conditional to prevent it from execution on direct access as follows:
<?php
if(isset($_POST['submit'])) {
// Your code here
}

File upload issue. using the w3school tutorial

I look at w3school tutorial for upload a file. I can understand the code. The first 2 simply version of the code works, while this doesn't.
<?php
$allowedExts = array("gif", "jpeg", "jpg", "png");
$temp = explode(".", $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
$extension = end($temp);
if ((($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/x-png")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/png"))
&& ($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 20000)
&& in_array($extension, $allowedExts))
{
if ($_FILES["file"]["error"] > 0)
{
echo "Return Code: " . $_FILES["file"]["error"] . "<br>";
}
else
{
echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br>";
echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br>";
echo "Size: " . ($_FILES["file"]["size"] / 1024) . " kB<br>";
echo "Temp file: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"] . "<br>";
if (file_exists("upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]))
{
echo $_FILES["file"]["name"] . " already exists. ";
}
else
{
move_uploaded_file($_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"],
"upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
echo "Stored in: " . "upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"];
}
}
}
else
{
echo "Invalid file";
}
?>
I have a problem, if i use this code to upload a file i Always get Invalid file response.
EDIT:
<html>
<body>
<form action="upload_file.php" method="post"
enctype="multipart/form-data">
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="file" id="file"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>
Also check Folder permission. Upload folder permission should be 777.
this code only uploads images.
you cannot upload same files that are already uploaded.
you cannot upload files more than 20KB.
make sure you have a directory named 'upload' in your source folder

<head>

</head>
<body>
<form action="file_upload_test2.php" method="post"
enctype="multipart/form-data">
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="file" id="file"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>
<?php
$allowedExts = array("gif", "jpeg", "jpg", "png");
$extension = end(explode(".", $_FILES["file"]["name"]));
if ((($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/gif")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/jpg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/pjpeg")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/x-png")
|| ($_FILES["file"]["type"] == "image/png"))
&& ($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 200000)
&& in_array($extension, $allowedExts))
{
if ($_FILES["file"]["error"] > 0)
{
echo "Return Code: " . $_FILES["file"]["error"] . "<br>";
}
else
{
echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br>";
echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br>";
echo "Size: " . ($_FILES["file"]["size"] / 200000) . " kB<br>";
// echo "Temp file: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"] . "<br>";
if (file_exists("upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]))
{
echo $_FILES["file"]["name"] . " already exists. ";
}
else
{
move_uploaded_file($_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"],
"upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
echo "Stored in: " . "upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"];
}
}
}
else
{
echo "Invalid file";
}
?>
If you host your application on linux, you should convert extension to lower case to match strings in $allowedExts, because linux is case sensitive (and not just linux).
Check this How to track execution time of each line / block of lines / methods in PHP? to be able to run script step by step and see, where the problem is.
