I am using Moodle version 3.8.4+ and PHP version 7.2.33 . Today I noticed a strange issue when I was trying to send a message to students, the message was:

It looks like the massagebody param in the request that initiates this process is using array syntax, like ?messagebody[]=foo instead of ?messagebody=foo, so the error is in whatever page the request originated from. You can either try to figure out why that is and change it, or make a change to this messageselect.php file to flatten the parameter. To do that you would change this:

However be aware that if the page is sending this parameter as an array, it is quite likely that others will be sent that way as well. Usually you would send parameters using array syntax so that multiple records can be processed in one request, so that messagebody[1] would correlate to format[1], messagebody[2] would correlate to format[2], and so on. The code in messageselect.php is clearly not expecting this. I would be interested to find out what the story is for the page that sends requests here.
I have made a template system but the {var} doesnt output the worth.

Instead of line:

You should have:
$this->assignedValues[$_searchString] = $_replaceString;
and it will work.
Of course I assume that inside your template file you have content:
{title} {about}
You should change
$this->assignedValues[strtoupper($_searchString)] = $_replaceString;
to this:
$this->assignedValues["{".$_searchString . "}"] = $_replaceString ;
this will only replace your keywords with values.

It all seems to be hooked up correctly, when I debug the code, I get the this line:
$statement = $this->adapter->query($sql);
and then nothing happens. If I replace all the code in the GetPositionsByID method, and simply return an array like the following:

it works great, however i want to get the data from the DB. Does anyone know why the execute would fail on this line?

First thing, you're parsing your html result with regex which is inefficient, unnecessary, and... well, you're answering to the cthulhu call!
Second, parsing IMDB HTML to retrieve results, although valid, might be unnecessary. There are some neat 3rd party APIs that do the job for you, like http://imdbapi.org
If you don't want to use any 3rd party API though, IMHO, you should, instead, parse the HTML using a DOM parser/manipulator, like DOMDocument, for instance, which is safer, better and, at the same time, can solve your HTML to XML problem.

I created a form to call the function with a submit button. All of this works but my problems is trying to display the output outside the function. For example currently all output is displayed like the following.

I want to know how the results of pc1, pc2, pc3 and pc4 can be displayed separately outside the function.
Thanks for answers, but I found a solution that works great for what I want to do using variables variables.
By changing $key to $$key pc1 pc2 pc3 and pc4 become variables and then I can use it anywhere I want.
$IP2sping = array("pc1" => "192.168.1.121",
"pc2" => "192.168.1.122",
"pc3" => "192.168.1.123",
"pc4" => "192.168.1.124");
foreach ($IP2sping as $key => $value){
if (ping($value) == true) {
$key." alive<br>";
} else {
$key." off<br>"; }
}
}
In fact, it's shown outside the function. Here is where you show the results.
if (ping($value) == true) {
echo $key." alive<br>";
} else {
echo $key." off<br>";
}
I would do something like that for what you want:
$available = null;
foreach ($IP2sping as $key => $value){
if (ping($value) == true) {
echo $key." alive<br>";
} else {
echo $key." off<br>";
}
}
Or
$available = null;
foreach ($IP2sping as $key => $value)
$available[$key] = ping($value) ? true : false;
Then, you'll be able to use the $available array for whatever you want :)
