htaccess rewrite url folder/file to folder/file.php - php

I want ajax/file address to be redirected to ajax/file.php using .htaccess. I created a .htaccess file like below but that gives a 500 Internal Server Error.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^ajax/(.*)$ ajax/$1.php [L]
An additional information is that my website is working under a sub-folder. (localhost/myproject) RewriteRule ^ajax/(.*)$ /ajax/$1.php [L] redirects url to (localhost/ajax/file.php) instead of (localhost/myproject/ajax/file.php

Problem is that .* in your regex also matches file.php.
Use your rule like this:
Options -MultiViews
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^ajax/([^./]+)/?$ ajax/$1.php [L]

Htaccess redirecting in the wrong way

I'm using a simple HTAccess redirect rule to redirect :-
http://localhost/sell_script/s.php?value=1
to
http://localhost/sell_script/s/1
When I directly load http://localhost/sell_script/s.php?value=1, it works fine. But when I load http://localhost/sell_script/s/1 it again redirects me to http://localhost/sell_script/s.php?value=1.
What might be the problem here?
My htaccess :-
RewriteEngine on
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^s/(.*) sell_script/s.php?value=$1 [R]
I've written this simple re-write for you.
#ErrorDocument 404 /
RewriteEngine On
#RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80
RewriteRule ^s/(.+)$ s.php?id=$1 [L,QSA]
This would redirect s.php?id=1 to s/1.
To be clear from what you have above, the redirect is from
http://localhost/sell_script/s/1
to
http://localhost/sell_script/s.php?value=1
Not the other way around.
If your RewriteBase is /, you should include the sell_script in your rule.
RewriteRule ^sell_script/s/(.*)$ /sell_script/s.php?value=$1 [L,R=301]
Also note, I have added an L to make the rule an endpoint, and changed the rewrite to a 301 code which is more search-engine friendly, among other things.

Changing the actual URL without changing display URL using htaccess [duplicate]

So, I've this problem:
Base Website located at http://example.com/
Second Website located at http://example.com/web2/
People making various requests to the second website like
http://example.com/myWeb/pg1 and http://example.com/web2/pg2
Recently and due to some other issues I need to have a custom new path for the second website but also keep the first one working.
The ideia is to allow users to access the second website over the two following addresses:
http://example.com/web2/
http://example.com/alternative-url-web2/
The folder /web2/ actually exists on the server, but how can I simulate the folder /alternative-url-web2/ and "redirect" the requests to /web2/?
Please note I don't want the URL on the browser to change, this must be a "silent redirect". And I also make sure that all other requests like http://example.com/other are not redirected by the second website.
Thank you.
Update:
According to #anubhava I could simply solve this issue by adding in my .htaccess:
Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^alternative-url-web2(/.*|)$ /web2$1 [L,NC]
This is probably working fine but I noticed the following:
http://ex.com/alternative-url-web2 is redirected to http://ex.com/web2/ (changing browser URL);
http://ex.com/alternative-url-web2/ is redirected to http://ex.com/(changing browser URL);
http://ex.com/alternative-url-web2/someRequest works fine and does NOT change the browser URL;
http://ex.com/alternative-url-web2/index.php works fine and does NOT change the browser URL;
Site Note:
At /web2/ there's an .htaccess that might be cause the wired redirect behavior above... So here is the file contents:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -l [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule ^.*$ - [NC,L]
RewriteRule ^(data/|js/|styles/|install/|favicon\.ico|crossdomain\.xml|robots\.txt) - [NC,L]
RewriteRule ^.*$ index.php [NC,L]
</IfModule>
Can the internal RewriteRule to index.php be causing all this? If yes, how can I fix it?
Enable mod_rewrite and .htaccess through httpd.conf and then put this code in your .htaccess under DOCUMENT_ROOT directory:
Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
# Turn mod_rewrite on
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^alternative-url-web2(/.*|)$ /web2$1 [L,NC]
Alternate code:
RewriteRule ^alternative-url-web2/?$ /web2/ [L,NC]
RewriteRule ^alternative-url-web2/(.+)$ /web2/$1 [L,NC]
This is a pretty simple rewrite. In the htaccess file in your document root, just add the following:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^alternative-url-web2/?(.*)$ /web2/$1 [L]
Unlike a redirect, which makes the browser/client send a new request for a new URL (thus changing what's in the browser's location bar), a rewrite happens entirely on the server's side.
By the way, in order to follow the trail of htaccess redirects, you could add something like this to each of them:
Header add X-Remark-Rewrite "/path.to/htaccess"
You can inspect these in the response in the developer tools.

how to rewrite single URL using .htaccess

I need to rewrite only 1 specific URL, to display to visitors specific content: I tried something like, this:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} example.com/test/2_5/page.html
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ example.com/tt.html [R,L]
I need to rewrite all requests to:
http://example.com/test/2_5/page.html
to
http://example.com/tt.html
how to do this?
thanks,
Redirect /test/2_5/page.html /tt.html
Ok, mod_rewrite
RewriteRule ^/test/2_5/page.html /tt.html [L]
Remove first / if using .htaccess in the site's root folder, not the .conf file. And, typically, the final url should be the full one, with http:// and domain, but this one will work too. If you want to do everything by the rules then
RewriteRule ^/test/2_5/page\.html$ http://example.com/tt.html [L]

mod_rewrite Problem - Routing pages to query string

I need help with my mod_rewrite for a site im currently working on.
Let's say I have this site http://example.com
And I want to be able to make any value after the / to route to page.php like below
http://example.com/value1
http://example.com/value2
to point to
http://example.com/page.php?id=value1
http://example.com/page.php?id=value2
,respectively.
But, not route to that page when im pointing to "admin"
http://example.com/admin/
I've tried
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond $1 !^(admin)
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /page.php?id=$1 [L]
But it isn't working. Any thoughts?
$1 is not available at the time of the Condition. I believe what you are looking for is close to:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^admin/.*
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ page.php?id=$1 [L]
this rule causes everything not starting with admin/ to go to /page.php. I don't believe the %{param} is optional. Using RewriteBase / means you do not to have prepend / on /admin and /page.php; it may actually fault if you use /page.php instead of page.php
If you have means of accessing the server values, then the final rule can be:
RewriteRule . page.php [L]
You can find the called url in the REQUEST_URI
This of any help?

URL rewriting-page not found error

In order to convert my dynamic URL i.e www.3idiots.co.in/index.php to static url i.e www.3idiots.co.in/index.html, I edited my .htccess file and put the following code in it:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^index.php$ /index.html [R]
when i uploaded this file in the root directory, and try to open the page, I got the error
404 page not found error, www.3idiots.co.in/index.html not found.
You have to actually have a file named index.html. Right now you don't. The rewriting/redirecting is working fine, you're just redirecting to a non-existent page/file.
I'm a little confused as to what you're actually trying to do. If you just want to move index.php to index.html, rename the file. Rewriting makes it so that if someone tries to open index.php they will be redirected to index.html, but you still have to have an index.html file for them to be redirected to.
RewriteEngine On
# Send the user to index.html
RewriteRule ^index.php$ /index.html [R]
# Tell the server that index.html really means index.php
RewriteRule ^index.html$ /index.php
Try these rules:
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^GET\ /index\.php
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ /index.html [L,R=301]
RewriteRule ^index\.html$ index.php [L]
The first rule redirects every direct request of /index.php externally to /index.html. And the second rule rewrites requests of /index.html internally to /index.php.
Are you sure mod rewrite is enabled & working?
1) create an html page called found.html with whatever you want in it, but some text to be sure it's loaded (not a blank page basically) and put this in an file called ".htaccess" :
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^find.html$ /found.html [L]
2) upload both your .htaccess and the found.html files in your domain's root
3) Just try to load -www.example.com/find.html (with your real domain of course). If mod_rewrite is available, you should see the content of found.html while browsing find.html (which does not physically exist by the way).
If it does not work, try :
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^find.html$ found.html [L]
In the Apache Conf file, you also need to make sure that AllowOverride is set to a value that will allow .htaccess to be processed.
Normally it's AllowOverride all
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^index.html$ index.php
RewriteRule ^$index.htm/$ index.php [L]
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^index.html$ index.php
Try this code...
It will work for your problem /..
