I have Nginx installed with PHP-FPM and I cant figure out how to run php -v into terminal it says that i need to install php5-cli. How else can I run php from terminal? I am using ubuntu. I just need php from terminal to run a cron
You need to find out if the PHP installation folder is in your PATH. You can check by doing "echo $PATH". if you don't find the PHP install folder there then that's probably the problem

I am trying to use composer to install a google client library, but cannot install composer or use php on the command line.
I am using php 8.0.8 with MAMP and it is working fine, so I know it is installed.
If I type php in the terminal, I receive the command not found message. Thinking it could be an environment variable, I have tried navigating to the php folder /Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php8.0.8/lib/php and tried the php command again, but still get the same error

Instructions to Change PHP Installation
First, Lets find out what version of PHP we're running (To find out if it's the default version).
To do that, Within the terminal, Fire this command:
which php
This should output the path to the default PHP install which comes preinstalled by Mac OS X, by default it has to be (Assuming you've not changed it before):
/usr/bin/php
Now, We just need to swap this over to the PHP that is installed with MAMP, which is located at /Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.4.10/bin (MAMP 2.1.3)
To do this, We need to edit the .bash_profile and add the MAMP version of PHP to the PATH variable.
Follow these simple steps:
Within the Terminal, run vim ~/.bash_profile
Type i and then paste the following at the top of the file:
export PATH=/Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.4.10/bin:$PATH
Hit ESC, Type :wq, and hit Enter
In Terminal, run source ~/.bash_profile
In Terminal, type in which php again and look for the updated string. If everything was successful, It should output the new path to MAMP PHP install.
In case it doesn't output the correct path, try closing the terminal window (exit fully) and open again, it should apply the changes (Restart in short).
Install Composer Package Management
Now you can fire the command to install the composer globally (So you can access it from anywhere):
$ curl -sS https://getcomposer.org/installer | php -- --install-dir=/usr/local/bin --filename=composer
You can verify your installation worked by typing the following command within the Terminal:
composer
It'll show you the current version and a list of commands you can use if the installation was successful.

So, I have that question. I've installed xampp on my ubuntu, and I run my web system from there ( /opt/lampp/htdocs ). I can open my php web systems from navigator with no troubles. So now I want to run a php script from linux console, like this:
php -f file.php
but ubuntu tells me to install php7.0-cli or hhvm packages to run a php script on console. The real question is, that I've installed lampp running php there. Is there any chance to run a php script on console with the lampp's php service? or I have to install those packages for ubuntu anyway?
When you run:
php -f file.php
from the linux terminal you are excecuting the system php enviroment (in ubuntu you install it using apt-get install), if you need run the script with the LAMPP php environment you must run:
/opt/lampp/bin/php -f file.php
If you run this command repeatedly, you can set alias by appending the following command in the "~/.bash-aliases" file or by directly running the command in the terminal:
alias php='/opt/lampp/bin/php'
Windows 10 just released Anniversary Update today. Now you can use Ubuntu flavored bash command from Linux subsystem.
The question is: How to execute Windows10's Bash command from PHP?
I tried

Just found out that I can run web server directly from subsystem.
e.g.
$ sudo apt-get install apache2
$ sudo service apache2 start
Then put all web contents inside subsystem's directory located at %localappdata%\Lxss\rootfs
At this point I can execute bash script however I want.
You can not. Ubuntu on Windows is implemented as a different subsystem directly below the Windows Kernel. So it runs separate to normal Windows processes and can not interact with them. (At least that is how I understand it). But maybe you just have to use C:\Windows\System32\bash.exe as the command.
Bash is not meant to be used to run a server but you can run PHP-CLI on bash without an issue.
Instead of running the PHP script in Windows and then accessing bash it would be easier to create a command to run the PHP script directly in bash.
So you would run `bash.exe -c "php path/to/php-script.php"

I'm running php composer.phar install from git bash CLI and it shows sh:php: Command not found.
Though I have set environment variable path to my wamp/bin/php/php5.4.16/
You are required to put the directory that has php.exe in your WAMP installation into environment variable PATH. It is generally like C:\wamp\bin\php.
Where \php\ is the directory containing php.exe.
Set php env. variable as mentioned here. (you can test it easily using this command: php -r "echo 1;" or php -v)
restart git shell
if composer.phar does not exists, run this (more info):

Whether you are using gitbash or cmd you should run it as an administrator. Navigate to your project then type the command "composer install" it will work. Mine worked just fine.
I am trying to run a php file on a ubuntu linux server but get a 'command not found' error when i run "php file_name.php"
Searching online, i found an article that suggested I run "sudo aptitude install php5-cli" which I did and restarted apache afterwards but I still get this error.

Try this once,
Go to terminal.
whereis php
It will show where is php installed.
Export that path to environment variable using following command
export PATH=$PATH;/path/to/php's/bin directory
Then execute required file..
As follows,
php file_to_execute.php
first make sure that you've installed following packs:
php5
php5-cli
php-pear
like this:
sudo apt-get install php5 php5-cli php-pear
then make sure to configure php safely befor using it.
also make your php file executable ( chmod 700 )
Try the following step :
Open your cmd/console or press ctr+alt+t.
php5 /your/path/to/php_file_name.
