I am using .htaccess for URL Rewriting. My current .htaccess code is:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
# external redirect from actual URL to pretty one
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s/+fr/transporter/transporterPublicProfile\.php\?profil=([^\s&]+) [NC]
RewriteRule ^ fr/profil-des-transporteurs/%1? [R=302,L,NE]
# internal forward from pretty URL to actual one
RewriteRule ^fr/profil-des-transporteurs/([^/.]+)/?$ fr/transporter/transporterPublicProfile.php?profil=$1 [L,QSA,NC]
My URL is :
https://example.com/fr/profil-des-transporteurs/1927
It works fine when I place .htaccess file in DOCUMENT_ROOT directory.
But it doesnot work when I put same .htaccess file in real sub-directory i.e /fr/.
So what should I do, if I want to place .htaccess file in sub-directory i.e /fr/
Use these rules inside /fr/.htaccess:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /fr/
# external redirect from actual URL to pretty one
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} /fr/transporter/transporterPublicProfile\.php\?profil=([^\s&]+) [NC]
RewriteRule ^ profil-des-transporteurs/%1? [R=302,L,NE]
# internal forward from pretty URL to actual one
RewriteRule ^profil-des-transporteurs/([^/.]+)/?$ transporter/transporterPublicProfile.php?profil=$1 [L,QSA,NC]
Try this
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /fr

I have a url like this:
http://www.localhost.com/code_category/computers/
I want to change this url to:
http://www.localhost.com/category/computers/
I don't need url redirection.
My current htaccess file looks like this:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>
You only want to redirect code_category to categoryexternally and keep the path as it is internally so, try this :
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} !\s/+category/ [NC]
RewriteRule ^code_category/(.*)$ category/$1 [R=302,L,NE]
RewriteRule ^category/(.*)$ code_category/$1 [L]
The above will redirect any request containscode_category/whatever to category/whatever externally and keep the internal path as it is .
If you want only request contains code_category/computers/ change it to this :
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} !\s/+category/computers/ [NC]
RewriteRule ^code_category/computers/(.*)$ category/computers/$1 [R=302,L,NE]
RewriteRule ^category/computers/(.*)$ code_category/computers/$1 [L]
test it , if it is fine change 302 to 301 for permanent redirection.
Note: clear your browser cache then test it.
.htaccess file
Add this code
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^localhost.com [NC,OR]
# without redirect
# RewriteRule ^/code_category/computers/$ category/computers/
RewriteRule ^/category/computers/$ code_category/computers/
# redirect method
# RedirectMatch 301 ^/code_category/computers/$ category/computers/
RewriteEngine On enables mod_rewrite.
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} shows which URLs we do and don't want to run through the rewrite.
In this case, we want to match example.com.
! means "not." We don't want to rewrite a URL that already includes folder1, because then it would keep getting folder1 added, and it would become an infinitely long URL.
[NC] matches both upper- and lower-case versions of the URL.
RewriteRule defines a particular rule.
The first string of characters after RewriteRule defines what the original URL looks like. There's a more detailed explanation of the special characters at the end of this article.
The second string after RewriteRule defines the new URL. This is in relation to the document root (html) directory. / means the html directory itself, and subfolders can also be specified.

Hope this helps!
My current .htaccess is in httpdocs.
How can I configure it to help domain point to subfolder is /vn/
and still keep: www.example.com instead of www.example.com/vn/
Try the following near the top of your .htaccess file in the document root:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} ^$
RewriteRule (.*) /vn/$1 [L]
This internally rewrites all requests that hit the document root to the /vn/ subdirectory. The RewriteCond directive that checks against the REDIRECT_STATUS environment variable ensures the request is only rewritten once - thus avoiding a rewrite loop.
In .htaccess add these lines :
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule !^blog/ /blog%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
Or in some hosts :
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?YourDomainName.com$
RewriteRule ^(/)?$ blog [L]
I have a web application in a directory suppose xyz. I am trying to redirect all requests to a sub directory www. My current .htaccess code is:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule (.*) /www/$1 [L]
But, when I visit http://example.com/xyz/some_url the request is redirected to http://example.com/www/some_url rather http://example.com/xyz/www/some_url which I want.
Update: Sorry, I forgot to mention the directory xyz as in my case is likely to renamed. So, this directory doesn't need to be hard coded in the rewrite rule
Place this rule in /xyz/.htaccess:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /xyz/
RewriteRule ^((?!www/).*)$ www/$1 [L,NC]
If your DocumentRoot does not contain the xyz path then you'll need to specify in the RewriteRule.
E.g.: RewriteRule (.*) /xyx/www/$1 [L]
This should work or be close I think:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^(.*)/([^/]+)$ $1/www/$2 [L]
Use a relative path and two .htaccess files
You need only remove the leading / to rewrite to a url relative to the current folder:
# /xyz/.htaccess
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule (.*) www/$1 [L]
This will rewrite /xyz/foo to /xyz/www/foo.
To prevent redirect loops add a .htaccess file to the www subfolder e.g.:
# /xyz/www/.htaccess
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^ index.php [L]
Adjust as appropriate.
Currently I working through my localhost in MAMP. I have read and research for the proper way to allow .htaccess file url rewrite and was successful. But now, the file is not formatting the links at all as desired. For example I have three pages index.php, about.php and contact. I am using MVC for the frame working of my site. Is this a problem with the code in the .htaccess file or my localserver?
Currently links look like this when going from one page to another:
localhost/mvc/index.php?
localhost/mvc/index.php?p=about
localhost/mvc/index.php?p=contact
.htaccess should format the links to look like this:
localhost/mvc/index/?
localhost/mvc/about/?
localhost/mvc/contact/?
.htaccess:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
# Turn on the engine:
RewriteEngine on
# Set the base to this directory:
RewriteBase /mvc/
# Redirect certain paths to index.php:
RewriteRule ^(about|contact|this|that|search)/?$ index.php?p=$1
</IfModule>
Replace your existing .htaccess code fully with this code:
Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
# Turn mod_rewrite on
RewriteEngine On
# Set the base to this directory:
RewriteBase /mvc/
# Redirect /mvc/index.php?p=page to /mvc/page
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,}\s/+mvc/index\.php\?p=([^\s]+) [NC]
RewriteRule ^ %1/? [R=302,L]
# Redirect /mvc/index.php to /mvc/
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,}\s/+mvc/index\.php\s [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /mvc/ [R=302,L]
# Internally forward certain /mvc/page/ to /mvc/index.php?p=page
RewriteRule ^(about|contact|this|that|search)/?$ /mvc/index.php?p=$1 [L,QSA,NC]
Replace
RewriteRule ^(about|contact|this|that|search)/?$ index.php?p=$1
with :
RewriteRule ^(about|contact|this|that|search)/\?$ index.php?p=$1
I just escaped the ? with a slash because, otherwise, you don't do this, the question mark will be interpreted and will means that the slash before it is optinal.
I've got the following directory setup:
http://www.mysite.com/public/
I'm using the following rewrite to remove the 'public' folder from visible URLs:
#rewrite the URL to display the subdirectory as the main directory for all links
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?mysite\.com
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/public
Rewriterule ^(.*)$ /public/$1 [L]
This works great, and redirects everything correctly. However, I also want to rewrite some of the dynamic pages that live in the 'public' subfolder as well, but am having trouble getting any of the rewrites I've found to work in conjunction with the above rule.
For example, with the above subdirectory rewrite rule in place, going to a URL like:
http://www.mysite.com/item.php?id=1&name=item_name
...should be rewritten to something like:
http://www.mysite.com/items/item_name
Thoughts?
Options +FollowSymlinks -MultiViews
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
#rewrite the URL to display the subdirectory as the main directory for all links
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?mysite\.com$ [NC]
Rewriterule ^(?!public/|prints/)(.*)$ /public/$1 [L,NC]
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} /*item\.php\?id=([^&]*)&name=([^&]*)\s [NC]
Rewriterule ^ /prints/%1/%2? [R,L,NC]
Rewriterule ^prints/([^/]*)/([^/]*)/?$ public/item.php?id=$1&name=$2 [L,NC,QSA]
PS: Make sure your static includes like css, js, images etc have absolute path rather than a relative one.
