Why does my rewrite rule only work on specific word? - php

I need a rewrite rule, which rewrites every request to index.php, except when the word web is in the url. So, every image, JS, CSS file is located under the web folder. Here are my .htaccess file which currently does the trick:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
# Folders / files to exclude from rewrite divided by Pipe goes here:
RewriteRule (^|/)web(/|$) - [L,NC]
# turn empty requests into requests for "index.php",
# keeping the query string intact
RewriteRule ^$ index.php [QSA]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !favicon.ico$
RewriteRule ^(.+)$ index.php [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^(.+)$ index.php [QSA,L]
</IfModule>
This works for:
http://localhost/~alpham8/application/index/index/
http://localhost/~alpham8/application/
http://localhost/~alpham8/application/index/someaction/
http://localhost/~alpham8/application/web/img/someimage.png
But it does not work for:
http://localhost/~alpham8/application/somecontroller/someaction/
The none-working URL´s returns me an 404 error.
Please help me.

only one Rule works fine ( top rule only... whatever it may be ) rest of the rules not
working, getting internal server error 500
Please Help me out
Assuming all your rule blocks are one after the other in the root .htaccess file.
rest of the rules not working, getting internal server error 500
Because you are unconditionally rewriting to the /food/ subdirectory (because this rule is first) regardless of whether the target file exists or not. If it doesn't exist it will create a rewrite loop, which results in a 500 Internal Server Error response.
The remaining rules are only processed if the request already maps to a file (or directory), but then the preceding RewriteCond directives prevent the rule from doing anything (since it has already been established that the request maps to a file or directory).
If there is no discernable difference in the URL then you need to check that the target file exists before rewriting the request.
You can do this, but with the obvious caveat that you can't have the same filename in more than one subdirectory (the first will always "win"). We also need to make some assumptions...
You are rewriting requests for physical .php files only (as per your example).
.php is present in the URL (as per your example).
Try the following instead:
RewriteEngine On
# If the request is already for one of the subdirectories then stop here
RewriteRule ^(food|health|beauty)($|/) - [L]
# If the request is for anything other than a ".php" file then stop here
RewriteRule !\.php$ - [L]
# If the request already maps to a file (or directory) then stop here
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule ^ - [L]
# Rewrite to "/food" if the target file exists
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/food/$0 -f
RewriteRule .+ food/$0 [L]
# Rewrite to "/health" if the target file exists
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/health/$0 -f
RewriteRule .+ health/$0 [L]
# Rewrite to "/beauty" if the target file exists
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/beauty/$0 -f
RewriteRule .+ beauty/$0 [L]
There is no need for the <IfModule> wrappers or the RewriteBase directive(s).
Although it does seem a bit odd that you would want to remove these subdirectories from the URL, as they look like "keywords" that would be better left in the URL?

htaccess forward all users to a single file

Good day,
I am using a framework that uses a .htaccess file to forward all requests to a sub file core/index.php
I used the following .htaccess file code :
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^$ core/ [L]
# If the request is not for a valid directory
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
# If the request is not for a valid file
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule (.*) core/$1 [L]
</IfModule>
This worked great I thought until I noticed that the pages got loaded multiple times.
And this is what I want to prevent.
So I had a little look at this forum.
And I found a solution that the space between (.*) and core could be the reason.
Hence I removed it.
And to my delight the multiple db inserts stopped.
However now I have found that my requests do not get forwarded correctly.
Only the main request (www.myapplication.com/) gets forwarded correctly (index.php)
Whenever I am adding something like : (www.myapplication.com/admin) he bugs out and cannot find the page.
I hope anyone could tell me what to modify in this code :
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^$ core/ [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule (.*) core/$1 [L]
Thanks in advance!!
I also note that whenever I change the (.) core/$1 [L] line to (.)core/$1 [L] that not only my (sub)pages stopped working but for the index.php the load times of my index.php file where split in half.
Hence my page truly gets reloaded multiple times.
Edit
As pointed out by a question below the system also uses a .htaccess file inside the /core directory.
This file has the following contents
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
# Rewrite all other URLs to index.php/URL
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?url=$1 [PT,L]
</IfModule>
<IfModule !mod_rewrite.c>
ErrorDocument 404 index.php
</IfModule>
Edit
I think it would come handy to make a small summary. If requested for a file or path I want the server to check if it is
available on the server.
www.myapplication.com/flower.jpeg and the server can find it it should display the flower.jpeg file.
If the server CAN NOT find the flower.jpeg file I want the server to forward the request to /core/index.php?url=flower.jpeg
I am using two .htaccess files
in the **public directory** (main directory)
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^$ core/ [L]
# If the request is not for a valid directory
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
# If the request is not for a valid file
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule (.*) core/$1 [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !core/
</IfModule>
Second file in the core directory
core/
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
# Rewrite all other URLs to index.php/URL
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?url=$1 [PT,L]
</IfModule>
<IfModule !mod_rewrite.c>
ErrorDocument 404 index.php
</IfModule>
The issue: my pages are in a loop hence the page index.php get's executed with every server request. E.G. 10 images on a page means 10
requests extra. Same for js and CSS files.
edit:
Solved!!!
This is the solution!!
DirectoryIndex core/index.php
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ core/index.php?url=$1 [QSA,L]
</IfModule>
You have to add
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !core/
to the RewriteCond block to prevent redirection from the target to the target.
It would be better if your target would be more specific, for example if you could specify /core/ instead of core/ (do you have a core subfolder in every folder?). Also, you will have to exclude image folders.
Try this in /core/.htaccess:
ErrorDocument 404 default
DirectoryIndex index.php
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([^.]+)/?$ index.php?url=$1 [QSA,L]
I found a solution. The working code is :
DirectoryIndex core/index.php
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ core/index.php?url=$1 [QSA,L]
</IfModule>

rewrite other requests to index.php does not work completely

I got the following .htaccess for my apache2 webserver in e. g. "some-folder":
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
# Folders / files to exclude from rewrite divided by Pipe goes here:
RewriteRule (^|/)web(/|$) - [L,NC]
# turn empty requests into requests for "index.php",
# keeping the query string intact
RewriteRule ^$ index.php [QSA]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !favicon.ico$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php [QSA,L]
</IfModule>
for http://host/some-folder/index/index it works, but for http://host/some-folder/ajax/test it doesn´t. It should redirect both to index.php.
What went wrong?
Edit: If I set the RewriteBase to
RewriteBase /~alpham8/ephp/
it works.
So, the folder under which the .htaccess file is located (in my case a home_dir). But how can I do the same without knowing the current directory under which the .htaccess file is located?

Issue with htaccess

I made a PHP framework that has a built in TPL system. It fetches the ending of the url, and finds the file that has that string. So if the url is http://website.com/tagHere the Tpl system would look for the file called tagHere.php. Everything works fine with it, but I'm now trying to expand the framework to have a built-in backend panel. I've tried multiple ways, but it just refuses to work.
I decided to take a look at Wordpress' htaccess, since they do exactly what I'm trying to accomplish. Here is how their htaccess works.
They check if the requested file name is a file. If it isn't a file, then they check if it is a folder. If it isn't a folder, they redirect to index.php. I want it to check if it's a file/folder, and if it isn't to remove the .php tag from the URL, so the TPL system can get the specified file and return it.
Here was my original .htaccess file.
RewriteRule ^(|/)$ index.php?url=$1
RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)(|/)$ index.php?url=$1`
Here is Wordpress' original .htaccess file.
<ifmodule mod_rewrite.c="">
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</ifmodule>
Here was my attempt:
<ifmodule mod_rewrite.c="">
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
RewriteRule ^(|/)$ index.php?url=$1
RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)(|/)$ index.php?url=$1
</ifmodule>
When I try the above htaccess, it returns a 404 error.
The Rule
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
Will always match every URL because it says something like "if there is a character in the URL, then redirect".
What you're looking for is something like this:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^admin/(.*?)$ admin.php?location=$1 [L]
RewriteRule ^(|/)$ index.php?url=$1
RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)(|/)$ index.php?url=$1

.htaccess all request to other file

Currently I have the following .htaccess file
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ public/index.php/$1 [L]
</IfModule>
Which works allmost perfect.
It rewerites urls like http://domain.com/something/ to the public/index.php file, like a charm, except when it is a file, just like it should.
However http://domain.com (without any path appended) (there is no index.php in the root, so it gives a 404 at the moment) is not being rewrited, how can I change this .htaccess so it rewrites this url too?
The index file is in public/index.php I want it to load that file through the use of .htaccess
Thanks
I believe to rewrite the root, you can simply do something along the lines of:
RewriteRule ^$ location/of/root/file [L]
You could try:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ public/index.php
RewriteBase should prepend the rule pattern with a leading slash, forcing it to match the root path.
Untested!
What you have there is inspired by WordPress?? It's a bad idea as it tell Apache to always check if the path is a file or a directory before redirecting.
I have something like this
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^.*/(css|images|javascript)(.*) [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !\.(swf|ico|php|xml)$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !robots.txt
RewriteRule (.*) index.php?page=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [PT]
The first condition restricts this redirect from working in specific folders.
The seconds does it for specific extensions.
You can guess what the third does :)
