is anyone able to find out what went wrong in this code below? It just shows a blank page. I'm new to PDO, always used mysqli but someone told me to try PDO since my page had problems showing arabic characters.

$user = 'dbuser'; // don't hardcode this...store it elsewhere
$password = 'dbpass'; // this too...
try {
$dbh = new PDO($dsn, $user, $password);
} catch (PDOException $e) {
echo 'Connection failed: ' . $e->getMessage();
}
$sql = "SELECT :column FROM :table";
$opts = array(
':column' => 'Name',
':table' => 'Mothakirat'
);
$dbh->beginTransaction();
$statement = $dbh->prepare($sql);
if ($statement->execute($opts)) {
$resultArray = array(); // If so, then create a results array and a temporary one
$tempArray = array(); // to hold the data
while ($row = $result->fetch_assoc()) // Loop through each row in the result set
{
$tempArray = $row; // Add each row into our results array
array_push($resultArray, $tempArray);
}
echo json_encode($resultArray); // Finally, encode the array to JSON and output the results
}
$dbh->commit();
</html>
This has no parse errors checked in my IDE. I use netbeans, its very good and available on several platforms.

I'm using the following code to make a connection to the database, fetch the Data_length index column, and calculate the database size based on the data.
For some reason PDO will always return "0", which is the value for the Data_length index in the first row. Whatever I do, I only get the first rows index.
The database is MySQL, the engine MyISAM.
PHP Version: 5.5.38
MySQL Version: 5.5.50
Here is the source code.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<head>
<title></title>
</head>
<body>
<?php
try {
error_reporting(-1);
$host_name = "my_host";
$database = "my_db";
$user_name = "my_user";
$password = "my_pwd";
$conn = new PDO("mysql:host=$host_name;dbname=$database", $user_name, $password);
$conn->setAttribute(PDO::ATTR_ERRMODE, PDO::ERRMODE_EXCEPTION);
$sth = $conn->query('SHOW TABLE STATUS');
$dbSize = 0;
$row = $sth->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC);
$dbSize = $row["Data_length"];
$decimals = 2;
$mbytes = round($dbSize/(1024*1024),$decimals);
echo $dbSize . "\n" . $row["Data_length"];
} catch (PDOException $e) {
echo 'Connection failed: ' . $e->getMessage();
}
?>
</body>
</html>
Add a while loop,
while($row= $sth->fetch( PDO::FETCH_ASSOC )){
echo $row['your_field_name'];
}
Or you can use fetchAll
$rows = $sth->fetchAll();
print_r($rows);
I have a reasonably complicated stored procedure in MSSQL 2008 R2 that, in the end, results in a small table being returned. The PHP will be called from javascript and I want it to return the array as JSON to be used in table in the javascript.
I am using PHP to access it and, using the profiler, can see that I am calling the SP and passing the correct parameters to it.
My PHP looks like this:
try {
$dbh = new PDO("sqlsrv:Server=(local);Database=cddDispo");
$dbh->setAttribute( PDO::ATTR_ERRMODE, PDO::ERRMODE_EXCEPTION);
} catch (PDOException $e) {
echo json_encode("Error connecting to the server.");
die ();
}
$lot = $_POST["lot-input"];
$layerAdder = $_POST["layer-input"];
$adder = substr($layerAdder,-3,3);
$adder = str_replace('=','',$adder);
$layer = substr($layerAdder,0,strpos($layerAdder,' '));
$sth = $dbh->prepare('EXEC dbo.pullDispo ?,?,?');
$sth->bindParam(1,$lot,PDO::PARAM_STR);
$sth->bindParam(2,$layer,PDO::PARAM_STR);
$sth->bindParam(3,$adder,PDO::PARAM_STR);
$array = array();
try {
$sth->execute();
while($row = $sth->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)) {
//I want to build my output array here
}
}catch (PDOException $e) {
echo "Error getting data, please try again.";
die();
}
header('Content-type: application/json');
echo json_encode($array);
This is the first time that I have tried to return table results from a stored procedure and even with several PHP Manual/ Google searches I have not figured out how to capture the table back in the PHP. I have a less elegant workaround (write the SP table to a static table and call that table later in the PHP) but would rather figure out if I can do in a more elegant manner. Any advice is much appreciated.
I thought it might be useful if I posted my final code:
function array_push_assoc($array,$key,$value) {
$array[$key] = $value;
return $array;
}
header('Content-type: application/json');
try {
$dbh = new PDO('sqlsrv:Server=(local);Database=cddDispo');
$dbh->setAttribute( PDO::ATTR_ERRMODE, PDO::ERRMODE_EXCEPTION);
} catch (PDOException $e) {
echo json_encode('Error connecting to the server.');
die ();
}
$lot = $_POST['lot'];
$layer = $_POST['layer'];
$adder = $_POST['adder'];
$sth = $dbh->prepare('EXEC dbo.pullDispo ?,?,?');
$sth->bindParam(1,$lot,PDO::PARAM_STR);
$sth->bindParam(2,$layer,PDO::PARAM_STR);
$sth->bindParam(3,$adder,PDO::PARAM_STR);
$results = array();
$combinedArray = array();
$array = array();
$count = 0;
try {
$sth->execute();
do {
$results[] = $sth->fetchAll(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC);
}while ($sth->nextRowset());
foreach($results as $row) {
if($count == 0) {
$headerArray =
[
'Lot' =>$row['Lot'],
'Layer' =>$row['Measured Layer'],
'Product' =>$row['MES Product'],
'Adder' =>$row['Adder Chart']
];
$combinedArray = array_push_assoc($combinedArray,'header',$headerArray);
}
$count++;
//This is for formatting of final table
if($row['UDL'] == 0) {
$udl = 'NA';
} else {
$udl = round($row['UDL'],4);
}
$infoArray =
[
'Wafer' =>$row['Wafer'],
'Type' =>$row['Type'],
'Count' =>$row['Count'],
'CDD' =>round($row['CDD'],3),
'UCL' =>round($row['UCL'],4)
];
array_push($array,$infoArray);
}
$combinedArray = array_push_assoc($combinedArray,'detail',$array);
}catch (PDOException $e) {
echo json_encode('Error running stored procedure.');
die();
}
echo json_encode($combinedArray);
Could it be that your stored procedure is returning multiple result sets? This includes output like warning messages or number of rows affected. Try adding SET ANSI_WARNINGS OFF or SET NOCOUNT ON at the top of your stored procedures after the AS. You can also try advancing to the next result set in PHP before trying to get the results by calling $stg->nextRowset() before $sth->fetchAll().
Use fetchAll() to get your resultset, then encode that array as your json response:
$array = array();
try {
if($sth->execute()){
$array = $sth->fetchAll(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC);
}else{
$array = array('error'=>'failed to execute()')
}
}catch (PDOException $e) {
echo "Error getting data, please try again.";
die();
}
header('Content-type: application/json');
echo json_encode($array);
When you are calling a stored procedure with multiple result sets, you probably do not want to add SET NOCOUNT ON into every procedure you have; you always can add
$dbh->setAttribute(constant('PDO::SQLSRV_ATTR_DIRECT_QUERY'), true);
$dbh->query("SET NOCOUNT ON");
before of
$dbh->prepare($query);
and it will work.
I am using jqplot to show data in a graph.I am able to fetch data in the array ,but I have a small problem
to plot data the format is
[["Pens",10],["Pencils",30],["Erasers",40],["Charts",3]]
I am getting data in the following format
[["Pens"],["10"],["Pencils"],["30"],["Erasers"],["40"],["Charts"],["3"]]
my code is as follows
PHP Code
$dbname = 'dbname';
$username = 'root';
$password = 'password1!';
try {
/* Establish the database connection */
$conn = new PDO("mysql:host=localhost;dbname=$dbname", $username, $password);
$conn->setAttribute(PDO::ATTR_ERRMODE, PDO::ERRMODE_EXCEPTION);
$result = $conn->query("SELECT Compliancestatus,value FROM COUNT_VALUE WHERE Zone='PZ' and country='AU' and `Compliancestatus` is not null");
$jsonTable = json_encode($rows);
print_r($jsonTable);
} catch (PDOException $e) {
echo 'ERROR: ' . $e->getMessage();
}
//mysql_close($conn);
$conn = null;
$rows = array();
foreach ($result as $r) {
$rows[] = array($r['Compliancestatus']);
// Values of each slice
$rows[] = array($r['value']);
}
please help me in this regard.
Change this
$rows[] = array($r['Compliancestatus']);
// Values of each slice
$rows[] = array($r['value']);
To
$rows[] = array($r['Compliancestatus'],(int)$r['value']);
I have a Microsoft Access Database, and I am trying to query the table using PHP, and output valid JSON. I have an equivalent code for a MSSQL database, am I am trying to make my code do the same thing, but just for the Access database.
Here is the MSSQL code
$myServer = "server";
$myDB = "db";
$conn = sqlsrv_connect ($myServer, array('Database'=>$myDB));
$sql = "SELECT *
FROM db.dbo.table";
$data = sqlsrv_query ($conn, $sql);
$result = array();
do {
while ($row = sqlsrv_fetch_array ($data, SQLSRV_FETCH_ASSOC)) {
$result[] = $row;
}
} while (sqlsrv_next_result($data));
$json = json_encode ($result);
sqlsrv_free_stmt ($data);
sqlsrv_close ($conn);
Here is what I tried for the MDB file
$dbName = "/filename.mdb";
if (!file_exists($dbName)) {
die("Could not find database file.");
}
$db = odbc_connect("Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq=$dbName", $user, $password);
$sql = "SELECT *
FROM cemetery";
$data = $db->query($sql); // I'm getting an error here
$result = array();
// Not sure what do do for this part...
do {
while ($row = fetch($data, SQLSRV_FETCH_ASSOC)) {
$result[] = $row;
}
} while (sqlsrv_next_result($data));
$json = json_encode ($result);
I kind of followed this to try to connect to the database: http://phpmaster.com/using-an-access-database-with-php/
Currently this is giving me a 500 Internal Server Error. I'm expecting a string such as this to be saved in the variable $json
[
{
"col1":"col value",
"col2":"col value",
"col3":"col value",
},
{
"col1":"col value",
"col2":"col value",
"col3":"col value",
},
{
etc...
}
]
Can someone help me port the MSSQL code I have above so I can use it with an MDB database? Thanks for the help!
EDIT: I'm commenting out the lines one by one, and it throws me the 500 error at the line $data = $db->query($sql);. I looked in the error log, and I'm getting the error Call to a member function query() on a non-object. I already have the line extension=php_pdo_odbc.dll uncommented in my php.ini file. Anyone know what the problem could be?
You only need 1 loop,
fetchAll is your iterable friend:
while ($row = $data->fetchAll(SQLSRV_FETCH_ASSOC)) {
$result[] = $row;
}
odbc_connect doesn't return an object, it returns a resource. see (http://php.net/manual/en/function.odbc-connect.php) so you would need to do something like this.
$db = odbc_connect("Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq=$dbName", $user, $password);
$oexec = obdc_exec($db,$sql);
$result[] = odbc_fetch_array($oexec);
and then you can iterate over results..
see also:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.odbc-fetch-array.php
http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.odbc-exec.php
I finally figured it out.
<?php
// Location of database. For some reason I could only get it to work in
// the same location as the site. It's probably an easy fix though
$dbName = "dbName.mdb";
$tName = "table";
// Throws an error if the database cannot be found
if (!file_exists($dbName)) {
die("Could not find database file.");
}
// Connects to the database
// Assumes there is no username or password
$conn = odbc_connect("Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq=$dbName", '', '');
// This is the query
// You have to have each column you select in the format tableName.[ColumnName]
$sql = "SELECT $tName.[ColumnOne], $tName.[ColumnTwo], etc...
FROM $dbName.$tName";
// Runs the query above in the table
$rs = odbc_exec($conn, $sql);
// This message is displayed if the query has an error in it
if (!$rs) {
exit("There is an error in the SQL!");
}
$data = array();
$i = 0;
// Grabs all the rows, saves it in $data
while( $row = odbc_fetch_array($rs) ) {
$data[$i] = $row;
$i++;
}
odbc_close($conn); // Closes the connection
$json = json_encode($data); // Generates the JSON, saves it in a variable
?>
I use this code to get results from an ODBC query into a JSON array:
$response = null;
$conn = null;
try {
$odbc_name = 'myODBC'; //<-ODBC connectyion name as is in the Windows "Data Sources (ODBC) administrator"
$sql_query = "SELECT * FROM table;";
$conn = odbc_connect($odbc_name, 'user', 'pass');
$result = odbc_exec($conn, $sql_query);
//this will show all results:
//echo odbc_result_all($result);
//this will fetch row by row and allows to change column name, format, etc:
while( $row = odbc_fetch_array($result) ) {
$json['cod_sistema'] = $row['cod_sistema'];
$json['sistema'] = $row['sistema'];
$json['cod_subsistema'] = $row['cod_subsistema'];
$json['sub_sistema'] = $row['sub_sistema'];
$json['cod_funcion'] = $row['cod_funcion'];
$json['funcion'] = $row['funcion'];
$json['func_desc_abrev'] = $row['desc_abreviada'];
$json['cod_tipo_funcion'] = $row['cod_tipo_funcion'];
$response[] = array('funcionalidad' => $json);
}
odbc_free_result($result); //<- Release used resources
} catch (Exception $e) {
$response = array('resultado' => 'err', 'detalle' => $e->getMessage());
echo 'ERROR: ', $e->getMessage(), "\n";
}
odbc_close($conn);
return $response;
And finnally encoding the response in JSON format:
echo json_encode($response);
i'm building an website using php and html, im used to receiving data from a database, aka Dynamic Website, i've build an CMS for my own use.
Im trying to "simplify" the receiving process using php and functions.
My Functions.php looks like this:
function get_db($row){
$dsn = "mysql:host=".$GLOBALS["db_host"].";dbname=".$GLOBALS["db_name"];
$dsn = $GLOBALS["dsn"];
try {
$pdo = new PDO($dsn, $GLOBALS["db_user"], $GLOBALS["db_pasw"]);
$stmt = $pdo->prepare("SELECT * FROM lp_sessions");
$stmt->execute();
$row = $stmt->fetchAll();
foreach ($row as $row) {
echo $row['session_id'] . ", ";
}
}
catch(PDOException $e) {
die("Could not connect to the database\n");
}
}
Where i will get the rows content like this: $row['row'];
I'm trying to call it like this:
the snippet below is from the index.php
echo get_db($row['session_id']); // Line 22
just to show whats in all the rows.
When i run that code snippet i get the error:
Notice: Undefined variable: row in C:\wamp\www\Wordpress ish\index.php
on line 22
I'm also using PDO just so you would know :)
Any help is much appreciated!

Stian
EDIT: Updated functions.php
function get_db(){
$dsn = "mysql:host=".$GLOBALS["db_host"].";dbname=".$GLOBALS["db_name"];
$dsn = $GLOBALS["dsn"];
try {
$pdo = new PDO($dsn, $GLOBALS["db_user"], $GLOBALS["db_pasw"]);
$stmt = $pdo->prepare("SELECT * FROM lp_sessions");
$stmt->execute();
$rows = $stmt->fetchAll();
foreach ($rows as $row) {
echo $row['session_id'] . ", ";
}
}
catch(PDOException $e) {
die("Could not connect to the database\n");
}
}
Instead of echoing the values from the DB, the function should return them as a string.
function get_db(){
$dsn = "mysql:host=".$GLOBALS["db_host"].";dbname=".$GLOBALS["db_name"];
$dsn = $GLOBALS["dsn"];
$result = '';
try {
$pdo = new PDO($dsn, $GLOBALS["db_user"], $GLOBALS["db_pasw"]);
$stmt = $pdo->prepare("SELECT * FROM lp_sessions");
$stmt->execute();
$rows = $stmt->fetchAll();
foreach ($rows as $row) {
$result .= $row['session_id'] . ", ";
}
}
catch(PDOException $e) {
die("Could not connect to the database\n");
}
return $result;
}
Then call it as:
echo get_db();
Another option would be for the function to return the session IDs as an array:
function get_db(){
$dsn = "mysql:host=".$GLOBALS["db_host"].";dbname=".$GLOBALS["db_name"];
$dsn = $GLOBALS["dsn"];
$result = array();
try {
$pdo = new PDO($dsn, $GLOBALS["db_user"], $GLOBALS["db_pasw"]);
$stmt = $pdo->prepare("SELECT * FROM lp_sessions");
$stmt->execute();
$rows = $stmt->fetchAll();
foreach ($rows as $row) {
$result[] = $row['session_id'];
}
}
catch(PDOException $e) {
die("Could not connect to the database\n");
}
return $result;
}
Then you would use it as:
$sessions = get_db(); // $sessions is an array
and the caller can then make use of the values in the array, perhaps using them as the key in some other calls instead of just printing them.
As antoox said, but a complete changeset; change row to rows in two places:
$rows = $stmt->fetchAll();
foreach ($rows as $row) {
echo $row['session_id'] . ", ";
}
Putting this at the start of the script after <?php line will output interesting warnings:
error_reporting(E_ALL|E_NOTICE);
To output only one row, suppose the database table has a field named id and you want to fetch row with id=1234:
$stmt = $pdo->prepare("SELECT * FROM lp_sessions WHERE id=?");
$stmt->bindValue(1, "1234", PDO::PARAM_STR);
I chose PDO::PARAM_STR because it will work with both strings and integers.
