I've built a form for customers to message our help desk. This message is stored in the MySQL database for logging and tracking.
I want our help desk to be able to reply to the email, but instead of the email going directly to the customer, I want it to hit my server first (so the reply can be logged and tracked in a thread) and then the server would forward it to the customer.
I've got Laravel 5 setup with Mandrill to do outbound emails currently.
The part that stumps me, is how can I have my help desk send an email to our domain (ie noreply#exmaple.com) and have PHP handle that request? Once I can get it in PHP, I can parse the info out of the subject line etc..
Is there any way to do this?
Thanks!

I'm a noob and seriously confused. I built a form for my website with a php script that validates and sends an email to me when someone fills it out. So, what is an auto-responder? Do I incorporate that some how with my php script, or do I not need the php script at all if I use an auto-responder? Thanks in advance
Autoresponder is automatic mail shooted back to the origin email box , it may contains information like "Thank you for email and will get back to you soon". It can be configured at the mail provider or you can also do the coding for the same. As any user submit the form and he has valid mail , just read his email id in the last and send him the thanks email immediately . Later you can see his feedback and reply again.
An autoresponder is used for automatically sending email notifications when something happens, like you just subscribed to something. Some web hosting companies such as GoDaddy offer autoresponder email features under cPanel. I'm pretty sure big names have them. Just configure it under cPanel. Another way to do this is having a local program check the database for new members and using the program to send email to the new members. I did the second option for educational purposes but the first one should be more efficient.
Ok, I've been working with this Magento 1.7.0.2 website:
http://www.kharmakhare.com
There are two forms currently on the website. If I change either form to any kharmakhare.com email address, the email is never received. If I change either form to my email address, I get the email just fine.
Yes, I HAVE checked spam. The Kharma Khare email address will not receive emails from Magento. I thought it had to do with the Google Apps not being installed correctly... except when I logged into the email there were already tons of emails in there.
They don't have any problem receiving emails, they just don't receive any emails from the website. I've searched online for an answer. All I can find is problems sending emails through Google Apps, not receiving them.
My client already did set up the SPF records as well. In addition, last time I was in Google Apps (at least a year ago) it looked completely different, so I don't know where anything is anymore.
The first form is on the contact page (this uses Magento's default contact module):
http://www.kharmakhare.com/contact-us
The other is opened by clicking on the "Free Sample" tab on the upper right side of the screen. After spending hours working on this over a couple days I finally figured out how to do what would've been a 10-minute job in wordpress; creating an alternate email form. -_-
Regardless, although I know both forms work, neither one will send to the email address it actually needs to get sent to, and its driving me nuts. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem?
Switch off the mailserver for that domain.
The reason they are not getting the emails and you are is that the sending address is something#kharmakhare.com and the receiving address is somethingelse#kharmakhare.com. The MX records offloading the email to Google Apps are not used in this instance as the server will look for the local mailserver first.
I have a website where people will book for Site visits. The Support Executive Confirms Site visit in the previous day. Once the Site visit is confirmed on the day on which site visit should happen the customer should receive SMS in morning telling that you have site visit today as requested.
I have Third party SMS Service
Now I Should Run a Code in PHP, MySQL which sends a SMS in the morning on which the site visit should happen
How can I Do that
Cron -> starts PHP-Script , PHP Script reads records from the SQL Table and checks if an SMS has to be sent, i assume its sms over mail, so you can use the integrated php function to send out mails to the sms gateway. For the guy confirming the visits, create another site with proper authentication where he can access the table and agree with the site-visits and anotherone for the customer to register for site visits
You need a cron job set to run in morning which will call your php file have code for looking in database for customers you need to send sms to.
Yo need to register to sum sms gateway provide 2 good one i know is clickatell and eztexting.
You can get there api for sending sms in there website.
Happy Smsing :D

If you would like to try an entirely different approach, check out:
Sent.ly - http://sent.ly
I am the founder of Sent.ly and thought maybe Sent.ly could help you out...
Sent.ly allows you to use an Android phone as an SMS gateway. So... you could just purchase a cheap Android phone ($150 or so) and set up Sent.ly on it and put a SIM in the phone.
By calling the Sent.ly API, the SMS would go out through the SIM in your Android phone. Sent.ly also has the option for scheduling an SMS for sending later which is your use case.
This also allows your PHP application to RECEIVE SMS in addition to just sending it out.
You can setup rules and if an incoming message matches a rule, it would be posted to a PHP page of your choice.
Since I am a great fan of stackoverflow, I would like to invite you to try Sent.ly. We would be happy to set you up with extra credits if you like. Just mail us at support#sent.ly

I have developed a system like this for use with some of my clients, and you can easily use it to integrate with your website or applications, through HTTP POST or WebServices (using PHP, C# or whatever).
If you are interested just leave an email or other contact information as a reply to this answer and I will gladly send you a sample code of how to send SMS, setting the desired time for sending messages, beyond other things, through our system.
You will not need to have any kind of cron knowledge and setup, it is all handled by our system, and the code is pretty simple and straight forward. You will only need to call our services upon site visit confirmation, setting the desired message sending time, and our system will do the rest.
Best regards.
I am building a basic support request system where the customer can log in and ask a question and an admin can go in and reply and it will set the status to "Responded" and e-mail the customer to let them know someone has responded.
My question is.. I have a "comments" section which is a log of the interaction between the admin and the customer. If I e-mail the customer the initial response from the admin, then I have a feeling they will just hit "Reply" from their email and start communicating through there, and the logs won't be stored.
I could either e-mail the customer and say "Log in to view the response", or maybe if the customer does hit reply I can somehow track it and insert that in the comments table like they did it from the website. If that is even possible?
Just wondering if there is a standard way to do this and any suggestions you may have.
Thanks!
When sending the email to the user you can have it sent from an email address created for that specific ticket. Something that can identify it with your email system to help you route it back to the php ticketing system.
support(ticketnumber)#domain
support12345#mydomain.com
Then it depends on your email server how to go from there.
There are several useful tips at this question that may help or get your started.
How to get email and their attachments from PHP
If you want their reply to be automatically inserted into the DB, you'll have a assign a cron job in your server to run a php script to detect whether there's a reply from a customer (you need a table listing the customers' email and names.
Each time a customer uses the ticket system their email and name goes into this table).
You'll need to connect to your Inbox too via imap or SMTP, and there are scripts to do this (phpmailer, swiftmailer, etc) and "walk" through each email and see if the sender email matches any in your customers table. Then so an INSERT to the comments table.
Anther way is to read through the emails each time the comments page is loaded, but this will cause the page to take longer to load. However, the data will always be more "real-time" compared to cron jobs.
You could use email piping (if your server supports it).
In the subject, you'd have a unique identifier which contains the ticket ID or something unique to the ticket. Example: "How do I eat food [Question: #1234]", where 1234 is the ticket ID.
In your control panel, you would set up an email forwarder to your email piping script.
This tutorial offers the basics to email piping, and I used it as the base for my piping script: http://www.damnsemicolon.com/php/parse-emails-in-php-with-email-piping-part-1
I want to receive emails from mobile phone and display it on my website implemented PHP.
My site is a free messaging system that sends messages to mobile phones using sendgrid API
I want to display messages from cell phones on my website. Is there any API available ?
You don't need any APIs to do this task. What you need is to setup mail server on your server to be able to receive emails. It's nothing difficult in sms to emails. It's absolutely identical to regular emails. So you should setup your mail server to call your receiver script which will process the email, insert into your database etc. Take a look at exim or qmail.
How it will work:
your website sends email to, lets say, 91700000001#vtext.com from user#yourwebsite.com
91700000001 replies to user#yourwebsite.com that goes to your mail server
you have filter on your mail server to check, for example, if emails came from carriers domain (vtext.com, att.com etc), and hit your receiver script
the receiver scripts gets an email, parse it, inserts into the database
your display the data from the db on your website
Email from mobile? Do you meant text (sms)? Every mobile phone can receive email if they have internet connection. Your question is not very clear, can you rewrite your question to understand very clearly.
SMS GupShup
GupShup Apps platform will allow you to create sms applications that will allow your website to interact with your system.
Check out the FAQ first to see if it meets your requirement.
Then check the requirements for creating your application.
You can find the list of APIs here.
