I have been at this for a while thought I would seek some help before I hit the sack. I have successfully downloaded Apache on a windows server and can run PHP files locally on that server. Using the IP Address when I run :
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8085/test.php
on my local machine, I get a webpage error.
I checked on the Apache server, port, the IP and all but it yet doesn't seem to work. I am not well versed with servers and have a very brief idea about it.
What could be the issue?
I managed to get a solution. The port was blocked on firewall. Just had to add an exception for the port.

I am new to alot of things with WAMP/XAMPP, so i followed a few tutorials online, which required me to go to localhost/phpmyadmin. But every time i open the "webisite" i get an Error 404. As far as i know, no ports are blocked for either of the programs. when i start both apache and mysql on XAMPP it is highlighted green, and the ports are
Apache : 80, 443
MySQL : 3306
When i go to the WAMP icon, and test the port for Apache it says:
your port 80 is actually used by :
Server: Apache/2.4.12 (Win32) OpenSSL/1.01l PHP/5.6.8
which in my eyes isn't a problem.
I installed XAMPP for limesurveys, which i want to host locally. So everytime i open localhost in my browser it loads a website where i can choose from surveys. This list is obviously empty, but the important information is, THAT the webisite is available. now when i try open localhost/phpmyadmin i get a website telling me about Error 404 and stuff. I have checked, that phpmyadmin is installed when i installed WAMP, and also, that the alias in C:/wamp/alias/phpmyadmin.conf directs to the correct folder C:/wamp/apps/phpmyadmin4.1.14/. What im wondering is, why i cant open phpmyadmin...
If you have installed both xampp and Wamp on your machine try uninstalling one and just work with either one, I would recommend xampp. Make sure you move all your work files from htdocs or www, if your are uninstalling xampp or wamp respectively. Then try turning apache and mysql on and see if it works.

You can of course keep both XAMPP and WAMP running together keeping in mind that you have changed the default ports for either of it to some other ports rather than 80,443 and 3306, but sometimes it could create conflict as when you install some other third party softwares or enable certain services that run on port 80,443,3306.
The best alternative here would be to install one of the servers inside a virtual machine with network configured as "host-only-adapter" so that from the base machine you could access XAMPP/WAMP installed on the virtual machine by just pointing the ip-address of the virtual machine through a web-browser.
or,
If you want to run both XAMPP and WAMP together on the same machine but access only one of the servers at a time then you could go ahead installing both of them one after another. But, keep in mind that before installing the other server you have to completely stop all the services running from the XAMPP or WAMP control panel then quit the application. After this step you can go ahead installing the other server without changing any configurations or port numbers. This is because in this case we assumed that only one of the servers would be accessed at a time. Hence, before launching the other server one has to completely quit the application that is running currently by stopping all of it's services. If skype is installed then one has to change the default incoming connection ports to other than port 80 and 443.
Like mentioned above, if at all the intention is to access both servers up and running concurrently then taking advantage of a virtual machine would be the best to avoid conflicts and a long-term troubleshoots eventually.
If you messed up changing ports and config files then you could end up with the following error while trying to access phpmyadmin from XAMPP control panel:
**mysql said: Cannot connect: invalid settings. xampp**
note: while launching the servers , run it as administrator else some services will not start properly.

Stop all IIS services and Skype with generally use the same ports.
My server is on DigitalOcean cloud. I am using Ubuntu with Apache web server. My home computer is running Windows 7. I am using putty for terminal.
Followed all of the directions on https://laracasts.com/series/laravel-5-fundamentals/episodes/1. Made it up to 8:40, where it directs you to run php -S localhost:8888 -t public. I run that, then open a web browser and tried the following:
-http://mywebsite.com:8888
-http://www.mywebsite.com:8888
-http://mywebsite.com/learning-laravel-5/public
-http://mywebsite.com/learning-laravel-5/public/index.php
None of the above work.
In Google Chrome, the first two options where I list the port number, I get a page saying This webpage is not available. ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED. In IE, I just get a page with big font saying "This page can't be displayed."
For the last two options, I just get a completely blank page. In the console, I get this error: Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error).
I'm trying to pick up a web app framework to broaden my php skill set. Can someone help me out? What am I doing wrong/what is the video tutorial missing that I have to do in order to get Laravel up and running?
php -S localhost:8888 -t public is meant for running a site locally, which is what the video is showing.
If you are using a Digital Ocean droplet with Ubuntu and Apache, you will need to configure Apache to use /public as the document root and have Laravel installed in the /var/www directory.
From there you can visit the droplet's IP address (http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX) instead of the domain name (unless you have configured the DNS for that domain name). You won't need the port in the URL either, since Apache will be serving it on the default port 80.
This probably is not the answer you want, but here's my advice based on setting up a few VPSs on Digital Ocean. Step back. Spin a new VPS. Keep your old one around, if you want, but start afresh.
Create a new droplet
Setup your SSH and PuTTY and make sure that works
Setup your FTP (if you're using it)
Setup your DNS

Now, work on getting your "Hello world" html page to show when you access your domain www.yourdomain.com, yourdomian.com. Don't fixate on ports at this point, just get a minimal server running. Make an saved "image" of this basic working setup so you can spin a new VPS if you need to.
Now that you have a server that loads your domain index page, you can start to install your Laravel.
In a nutshell, I'd advise you to establish a stable working server platform before you try to install and launch a more complex technology like Laravel, or Rails, etc.
Tutorials often make complex technologies seem easy, the 10-minute expert, but there is tremendous complexity masked under the hood of these frameworks. Start simple and build on a server one piece at a time. You have to walk before you run.
I use Laravel often, but my experience with servers is more relevant here. Everything you've said indicates an access problem, and knowing how hosting companies work, they probably have that port blocked (along with all other non-standard ports).
You can test this using PuTTY, open it up and enter the host name of your server. Change the port to 80 and change close on window exit to never, then connect. Enter:
GET / HTTP/1.1
Host: yourwebsite.com
Then press enter twice and the server will process the result. It should show you the HTML of your home page.
Now try it again with port 8888 and see if you can even connect. If you can connect then it's not a port issue, but my guess is you'll get a fatal error Network error: Connection refused, which means the port is closed or blocked via firewall.
Even though DigitalOcean give you complete control over the server, the connection probably still runs through their firewall. It's possible that you have your own firewall, but otherwise if the server runs through their firewall and the port is blocked nothing you can do on the server will open that port.
did you try chmod -R 0777 storage ?
I'm trying to connect to my laptop's WAMP localhost from an Android device. But I still couldn't get it through.
Both machines are connected to the same wifi, and I think it should be okay since it shares the same router.
I've tried using my laptop's IP address, but it couldn't find the wamp index page.
I know there has been a lot of similar questions before, I've tried numerous solutions but still cannot make it work.
I'm using WAMP 2.5 with
Apache Version :2.4.9
PHP Version: 5.5.12
Server Software: Apache/2.4.9 (Win64) PHP/5.5.12
MySQL Version: 5.6.17

Some things to try:
1. Make sure the firewall on the laptop will allow the android device through. You might just need to add an ip exception.
2. Make sure the firewall will allow for the service on the laptop to be accessed. It might just be allowing port 80 (or whatever port the WAMP server is set up on). It might also mean the WAMP executable.
3. Make sure the android is on the same subnet as the laptop. If not, and you cannot change it, you may need to do port forwarding on any routers between the android and laptop. (Forward to the port the WAMP server is listening on.)
4. Try other things that you know work - e.g. a different laptop/computer on the same subnet trying to access the WAMP server; try to access the WAMP server on the same laptop using the ip address and port for the WAMP server instead of localhost.
Just be fully aware of the security implications of the above. Opening firewall ports and having a web server on your laptop increase security risks. You might want to make sure the WAMP server is only running while you are testing, and you change your firewall back after testing.
I'm having a really annoying problem. I use ZendStudio as a php IDE and I need to be able to debug an application which is deployed in a couple of servers:
A fisical server
A virtual server (vmware) hosted on my local machine
Both servers run CenOs, my local machine is running LinuxMint.
I configured the application so that when I save a file it is automatically uploaded to my virtual server.
The php configuration is the same in both servers, but, I can only debug using the fisical server.
I have tried several things including:
Changing the IP of the remote host to match every posible ip address for the host machine (vmware gives me two new ip addresses matching the subnet of the vm)
Activating xdebug.remote_connect_back
Activating xdebug.remote_autostart
Trying ZendDebugger
Nothing seemed to work.
I disabled ufw and eventually allowed port 9000.
Help please! :)

I just created a new environment like this:
Fisical machine Ubuntu 10.10
VM LinuxMint 10 with apache+php+xdebug
From my fisical machine I created a new remote project pointing to the VM, created a test script, run the debugger and it worked! right out of the box... now, I'm not sure this is good or bad news, since I need to get this working with the CentOs... any ideas? Thanks!
What is the best (and easiest) way to set these up on Windows 7? I have tried Xampp and WAMP but all I get after installing them is a blank local host. So I create a php info file using the following code:

Put it in the httpdocs folder, call it using http://localhost/info.php and I get a 404 file not found error. Even though I followed the typical install settings.
Are you by any chance running Skype in the background? Skype claims port 80 and port 443 as a firewall workaround. You can disable this in the advanced options -> connection.
This happens to me almost all the time I set up a new PC...
The problem was not with either xampp or wamp. The problem was with the proxy that is installed where I was using the internet. It has blocked access to the localhost. Bypassing the proxy for localhost in Internet options -> Connections -> LAN Settings -> Proxy Server does not fix this for wireless so to access the webserver I have to disconnect from the network to what I need to do and then reconnect.
The web server worked fine when I was on other non proxy networks.
