I try to plan one-time job with 'at' command. There is next code in script:

exec($cmd, $output , $exit_code);
When I run this command from script it adds the job to the schelude. This I see by the line in logs job 103 at Thu Sep 3 15:08:00 2015 (same text contains $output). But then nothing happens in specified time like at ignores the job. And there are no error messages in logs.
When I run same command with same args from command line on server it scheludes the job and than runs it at specified time.
I found out that when I try to plan a job via php script it runs under apache user. I tried to run next in command line on server:
sudo -u apache echo "/usr/bin/php /var/www/pant/data/www/pant.com/scripts/Run.php firstarg secondarg "|/usr/bin/at "16:00 03.09.2015"
It works correct too. I checked sudoers and have added apache user with NOPASSWD privileges. Script Run.php has execute rights.
at.deny is empty. at.allow does not exist.
So question is: why 'at' does not run command given via php script (exec) but runs same command in command line? How to run it?

The "problem" is typically PHP is intended to run as module in a webserver. You may need to install the commandline version of php before you can run php scripts from the commandline

I'm trying to use PHP to trigger a bash script that should never stop running. It's not just that the command needs to run and I don't need to wait for output, it needs to continue running after PHP is finished. This has worked other times (and the question has been asked already), the difference seems to be my bash script has a trap for when it's closed.
Here is my bash script:

I see the script run, the lock file get created, then it exits, and the trap removes the lock file. In my /tmp/script.log I see:
Daemon started (PID 55963)...
Caught signal...
What's odd is that this only happens when running the PHP via Apache. From command line it keeps running as expected.
The signal on the trap that's being caught is 0.
I've tried wrapping my command in a bash environment, like $command = '/bin/bash -c "' . addslashes($command) . '"';, also tried adding nohup to the beginning. Nothing seems to be working. Is this possible to do for a never ending script?
Found the problem thanks to #lxg.
My # do things command was giving errors, which was causing the script to exit. For some reason they were suppressed.
When removing set -e from the beginning of my bash script I started seeing the errors output to my log file. Not sure why they didn't show up before.
The issue was in my bash loop it was running PHP commands. Even though my bash user and Apache user are the same, for some reason they had different $PATHs. This meant that when running on command line I was using a PHP7 binary, but when Apache trigged bash commands it was using a PHP5 binary (even though Apache itself is configured to use PHP7). So the application errored out and that is what caused the script to die.
The solution was to explicitly set the PHP binary path in my bash loop.
I was doing this with
BIN_PHP=$(which php)
But on true command line it would return one value (/path/to/php7/bin/php) vs command line initiated by Apache (/path/to/php5/bin/php). Despite Apache being the same as a my command line user, it didn't load the ~/.bashrc which specified my correct PHP path.
I have MATLAB r2013b, IIS 7.5, php 5.6 on Windows Server 2008 and trying to do the following:

exec("matlab -r test_func(args) -logfile $logfile", $output);
$output shows that process exited with code 0, in the TaskManager I see MATLAB.exe running from the user IUSR, $logfile is created and locked by this process, but the process does nothing – just hangs (there are no issues with running the same command from cmd.exe).
Where is the problem?
using the -r option is like entering commands to Matlab's command line, so after the command is executed you still have Matlab running, waiting for your next command. Try instead:
matlab -r "test_func(args), exit"
So that the Matlab process will end. I suggest you do even more, and wrap it with a try-catch (followed by exit) so that in case of an error the process will not hang.
i created a Cron Job on my GoDaddy Server, named "SponUpdate.sh"

Now the issue is when this cron Job Runs it says me following Error,

So you're launching a cron job that runs a bash script that calls some perl scripts that call php. Why don't you just call php directly from cron?
Check that your bash script does not contain "\r\n" line endings: You might be trying to invoke "/bin/bash\r" instead of "/bin/bash"
You can check the bash path with which bash and then you can correct the shebang !#/bin/bash of the perl script.
I actually try to laucnh a gnome-term with a php script, seems i have some problems with the users www-data;
my script make only a ls -l command in a directory (is just for a test) and i run it with a php page in my local-web site.
here the gnome-terminal command in my bash script (he run perfectly when i double-click on him) :
gnome-terminal --working-directory=/opt/cuckoo -x bash -c "ls -l"
and here is the call on the php-page :
system("/my/path/to/the/script/script.sh");
i have some echo in my script and i see them in the php page after i try to run the script with the php.page.
i think www-data don't have the right to do so i give the ownership of the script with the chown command, and at last a try the sudo visudo command and make the script execute like the user www-data is root (with NO PASSWD arg)
But i can't open the terminal and make a ls at last, i try with exec too, and show the result with $ouput butthe result is the same as well.
At last my question is : Php can really run a terminal or maybe a fool myself^^? Thanks for taking time to rescure me ;)
PHP can run everything, but depends who spawns it. Forget just running X apps from a web server - you'll need more than just executing them (permissions, DISPLAY and Xauth settings). Read more about the X clients and architecture.

I am running Apache on my localhost. From a PHP script run as www-user I would like to control Rhythmbox playback on my machine. So far I have a simple command in my PHP script:
exec('rhythmbox-client --pause');
This works great when I run it from the command-line as me, but if it runs as www-user I guess rhythmbox-client doesn't know/can't access my instance of Rhythmbox.
Is there an easy way for that PHP script to run as my user rather than www-user, or to tell rhythmbox-client which instance to control?
The overall application is that when my phone goes off-hook it calls my PHP script which pauses music, and resumes playback when the phone is on-hook. I love VoIP phones!

Thanks to Carpetsmoker and Tarek I used sudo as the answer but there was a couple of problems. To overcome them I did the following:
Created a bash script to call rhythmbox-client. This bash script was executed using sudo in PHP as described in the answer below. Unfortunately rhythmbox-client didn't know what environment to control, so the bash script looks like this:

DBUS_ADDRESS=`grep -z DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS /proc/*/environ 2> /dev/null| sed 's/DBUS/\nDBUS/g' | tail -n 1`
if [ "x$DBUS_ADDRESS" != "x" ]; then
export $DBUS_ADDRESS
/usr/bin/rhythmbox-client --pause
fi
Now that bash script can be executed by PHP and wwwuser, and my phone can pause/play my music!
One solution is using sudo(8):
exec('sudo -u myuser ls /');
You will, obviously, need to setup sudo(8) to allow the user running your webserver to invoke it. Editing the sudoers file with visudo(8), you can use something like:
wwwuser ALL=/usr/bin/rhythmbox-client
To prevent Apache from being able to run other commands and only the rythymbox command.
In my case, the solution came this way:
Added this lines to sudoers file:
myuser ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/prlctl
_www ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/prlctl # IMPORTANT!!!
The EXEC() command in PHP was changed to:
exec("sudo -u myuser prlctl list -a", $out, $r);
If a process can be run by any user it can be run by PHP. Example is fortune command

Look at the x permission for every user. But this some times doesn't at all work and you may have to let the user, www-data or apache etc, run the program. You can sudo www-data and try to run the command. If it works then Apache/PHP should be able to run it.
