we are trying to add a pre-approval paypal process to our website before a user can bid on any of our items for sale. We currently accomplished this using Authorize.net but want to now integrate paypal as well.
I have been doing some research and am trying to find out if paypal even offers such a solution. The main reason for adding this verification is of course to make sure an individual actually has the money to purchase the item, some items can range from $100-$100,000. Does paypal offer a pre approval process for those types of transactions?

The Preapproval API gives your application permissions to trigger payments on a user's behalf without further approval (no login required to submit payments with a preapproval ID). There is no guarantee funds will be available when you submit this payment. A transaction with a preapproval ID could simply fail like any other transaction.
It sounds like what you're looking is the Authorization and Capture process, which is probably what you're doing with Auth.net, too.
With PayPal you can run Authorizations from credit cards directly (exactly like you do with Auth.net) and you can also do it with Express Checkout, which would be PayPal login payments.

When they go to purchase items, rather than going through the standard PayPal form, it will automatically grab the user's PayPal details from their user account, and make the payment directly from my website. There is definitely a way to do this, as I have seen this feature on sites such as Freelancer.com

No, you don't need Payments Pro for that. That would only be if you want to do it with direct credit cards. What you're after in general is called Reference Transactions, and when done with PayPal Express Checkout it uses Billing Agreements.
You'll use Express Checkout and/or Payments Pro (optional) to process an original authorization or sale transaction. Then, you can send that ID you get back in that original transaction along with a new amount in the DoReferenceTransaction API and that new amount will be instantly processed without any redirection or further authorization required.
I am developing a commerce app with php/mysql. My boss wants this:
user can buy "ad credits" on our website and he wants this to be a paypal pre authorisation
then the user can use ad bundles with various costs
this costs are taken from the ad credits and he wants this to be the actual decrement of user credits in paypal
Example: John buys an ad credits pack of 30$. He pre authorises this trasaction with his paypal account. Then he buys two banner spaces for the cost of 10$. So 10$ are taken from his paypal.
Is this possible? Paypal APIs?
There are a couple of ways you could handle this.
1) You could use Express Checkout to setup a billing agreement with the buyer and then use DoReferenceTransaction to process future payments using that billing agreement.
You can do the same thing with Payments Pro, too. In your original request you would just run an Authorization of 1.00 and then immediately void that authorization. You could then use that transaction ID you get back from the authorization to process future payments with DoReferenceTransaction.
2) You could setup a Preapproval Profile with the buyer using the Preapproval API. You would then use the Pay API to process payments in the future using the preapproval key you got back from that Preapproval API. This is all explained in detail in the Adaptive Payments documentation.

When you click the Express Checkout PayPal button on any webshop, it redirects you to a specific paypal login link, for paying the order.
I have been searching high and low for 3 weeks for a simple paypal php curl script that logs you in from this step, and confirms the payment, but have not been able to find anything.
I found out it is not possible to use the API for this, so its gotta be done by CURL.
I'm asking for this because I run a dropshipping website, and would like to automate certain steps, like placing and paying orders. A working code for this would help not just me, but all looking to automate buying in some form.

You can't log the buyer into PayPal when you redirect them to the site. The buyer has to enter their own account credentials themselves.
If you wanted to bill a buyer without requiring they log into PayPal each time you would need to use billing agreements (reference transactions) through Express Checkout. If you set up a billing agreement with a buyer you can charge a previously successful sale to bill them again for a different amount.
You cannot do what you want with Express Checkout, especially since nobody will ever enter the paypal details on your website (that is the entire point of paypal).
You can use either preapproved payments (buyers preappove payments being taken out of their account up to a certain ceiling), or reference transactions (you reference a new transaction to an older transaction. PayPal will then use the billing details of this earlier transaction to bill the user).

I am trying to figure out exactly what payment solution to use for my site.
I would like to do the same thing as Spotify (https://www.spotify.com/us/freetrial/ - You'll need to login to see it), allowing users to choose whether they want to pay with PayPal or use a credit card and then taking them to a payment selection screen (on PayPal), then returning them to my site to click confirm and buy.
I am already paying for recurring payments (even though I've yet to use it) and am unsure if that is applicable here. I have also integrated express checkout but I don't know if it will allow recurring payments.
EDIT: Do I need a separate token for recurring payments? Do I have to use the old recurring payments checkout screen? How can this be done as efficiently as possible, like Spotify? Yes, you can get this done with Express Checkout + Recurring Payments. That said, if the person chooses credit card when setting up a recurring payment they will have to create a PayPal account. If they're paying a non-recurring checkout then they could use the credit card option without creating a PayPal account.
You mentioned that you're already paying for recurring payments..?? Are you referring to Payments Pro? If so, you don't need to pay for that to use EC + RP. Pro is only necessary if you want to process credit cards directly on your site without ever redirecting to PayPal. This can sometimes make things seem a little more professional and would also give you the ability to let people setup recurring payments without creating a PayPal account when using a credit card.
When using EC you just need to make sure to include the billing agreement parameters in order to get a token back that will work within CreateRecurringPaymentsProfile. Refer to the SetExpressCheckout API reference for more details on that.
This is kind of old now, but is still useful. Take a look at this sample express checkout set of api calls. You'll notice it uses the same token throughout all of the calls.
Just like Spotify -you would need to build that option on your site. If the user chooses to subscribe with a credit card - use the recurring payments w/ direct credit card (see below). If the user chooses to subscribe with a PayPal account - use the recurring payments w/ PayPal Account (this is what Andrew is suggesting above in his response).

im building a site where 2 user groups exist: sellers and buyers. The buyers buy stuff and should pay to the sellers via PayPal.
So, its not a kind of a web shop where users are paying directly to me ( as a website owner/online shop), BUT TO THE OTHER USERS (sellers). So i need to forward a PayPal transaction from one user on my site (buyer) to the other one (seller).
I read some PayPal API Descriptions, but its assumed there that i want to process the PayPal Payments to my PayPal account, what's not my case.
An idea would be that sellers pay to me, and i then pay to buyers, but that's not what i want to do.
So , what I want is: the buyer should process the PayPal payment directly to the seller's PayPal account, and i should then receive the payment confirmation and inform the seller about it.
Does anyone have an idea, expirience or suggestion with this stuff? Thanks in advance!
You have a lot of options for how you can handle that.
One, you could use the Express Checkout API to build the checkout system, and you'd use the Permissions API (optional) so that users can easily grant your application permissions to make API calls on their behalf. Note that users could also do this manually through their PayPal profile until you get the Permissions part integrated.
To get your payments, you could have your users create a preapproval profile using the Preapproval API. This will allow you to submit payments on their behalf automatically at any time. As such, you could use the preapproval key within Pay calls directly in the checkout flow or within IPN (which is what I would recommend) to submit payments to yourself from the user's account.
Another option is to use a parallel payment within Express Checkout. This would handle splitting the payment for you automatically between the seller and yourself, but the buyer would see that split during checkout.
Another option would be to use the Pay API for the checkout which would allow you to create a chained payment. This is the same as a parallel payment except that it hides the split from the buyer, and you could actually delay the payment to secondary receivers if you need to for any reason.

if you have a buy now button or similar, use the sellers' email address as below

and it will pay the user with that email address. If that's not their paypal address, it will prompt them to either sign up for paypal to receive or add it to a current account.
Then use PHP mail() or your CMS/Admin system to notify you when the successful payment page has been loaded after a referral back from Paypal.
