I am having a problem with PhpStorm (10.0.3) on OS X El Capitan throwing a php-cgi not found error on PHP 7 cgi/fastcgi. I tried the solutions offered in "How do I install php-cgi? I tried MacPort, Package and everything else but none works", but these did not work. I've consulted this: http://blog.jetbrains.com/phpstorm/2013/09/built-in-webserver-in-phpstorm/ but it is not helpful. I also tried a cgi install of PHP 5.6 but this has the same problem as PHP 7.
I have installed PHP70-cgi using macport and verified the install is cgi-fcgi:
$ php-cgi70 -v
PHP 7.0.2 (cgi-fcgi) (built: Jan 19 2016 16:48:28)
Copyright (c) 1997-2015 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v3.0.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2015 Zend Technologies
When I try to use php-cgi70 from within PhpStorm it appears to incorrectly default to CLI:
PHP version: 7.0.2
PHP CLI: /opt/local/bin/php-cgi70 PHP CGI: Not Installed (php-cgi sapi is necessary to use built-in web server)
Loaded Configuration File: /opt/local/etc/php70/php.ini
I've also tried the macport install of php-fpm70, but this is not recognized by PhpStorm.
Does anyone have any ideas on resolving this? Thanks in advance.
PhpStorm can't find the PHP CGI binary. Do this on your shell to fix:
cd /opt/local/bin
sudo ln -s php-cgi70 php-cgi
sudo apt-get install php-xdebug
Another way for macOS is to install PHP all together with simple cURL:
curl -s https://php-osx.liip.ch/install.sh | bash -s 7.2
OR install Homebrew and then PHP with CGI (better practice):
/usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"
brew install php72 --with-cgi --with-debug --with-libmysql
And link it in PhpStorm:

When trying to run artisan commands I get the following error
[Symfony\Component\Debug\Exception\FatalThrowableError]
Class 'Memcached' not found
I had recently been been working on another project that used Lumen 5.3 and had no problem running artisan commands. Both projects are on the same virtual box and apart from the Lumen versions there is no differences in server setup.
I've checked that Memcached is running and there is no problems.
I've tried composer dump-autoload, deleting the vendor folder and re-installing but none of these have made a difference.
I'd prefer not to have to go back to 5.3 if possible.
Is there a way to solve this issue?
Had the same problem.
Check if you have the memcached extension installed for the php version that you're using, and check also if it is correctly configured in the php.ini file (it could be looking in the wrong directory).
looks like your memcahed is not installed or not properly configured.
for quick solution ,
use file cache driver instead of memcached
CACHE_DRIVER=file
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, try this:
sudo apt-get install php-memcached
Just to add to the os specific responses. Here is the one using OS/X and homebrew.
First you have to determine which version of PHP you're using locally.
$ php -v
PHP 7.0.19 (cli) (built: May 21 2017 11:56:11) ( NTS )
Copyright (c) 1997-2017 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v3.0.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2017 Zend Technologies
$ brew search memcached
homebrew/php/php53-memcached homebrew/php/php70-memcached
homebrew/php/php54-memcached homebrew/php/php71-memcached
homebrew/php/php55-memcached libmemcached ✔
homebrew/php/php56-memcached memcached ✔
Since I'm running PHP 7.0 I chose to install homebrew/php/php70-memcached
$ brew install homebrew/php/php70-memcached
If you don't have homebrew installed go to https://brew.sh/ and install it to use these instructions. This was the command last time I used it.
/usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"
Once I was done with all that then I tested by clearing the cache.
$ php artisan cache:clear
Cache cleared successfully.
$
Cheers, this fixed it for me for local development.
If you are on Mac OSX, you will need to install Memcached and its PHP dependencies via Homebrew.
brew update
brew doctor
brew install memcached
Then check your PHP version and install your relevant PHP hooks for Memcached.
php -v
in my case...
PHP 7.1.4 (cli) (built: Apr 14 2017 15:02:16) ( NTS )
Copyright (c) 1997-2017 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v3.1.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2017 Zend Technologies
So I used:
brew install php71-memcached
But you can lookup your required version using
brew search memcached
Once you have performed these steps you will probably get a new error
No Memcached servers added.
So fire it up with
brew services restart memcached
Done!
I'm new to server and linux and I ran into some problems. I'm trying to update my PHP by looking for linux commands through the net. Some commands ran perfectly but some not.
I tried using this command to install php-gd since I have this error message 'Required GD library is missing'. So, I tried to run this below:
yum install php-gd
However, it give me this error message below:
php56w-common conflicts with php-common-5.3.3-46.el6_6.x86_64
Here are some info on my server:
[root#uat ~]# rpm -ql php

Do you know what have I done wrong upgrading my php? Should I remove all php files on my server and reinstall? How?
Solved it by removing all php using "yum remove php php-common"
and modified the filename "remi.repo" under the folder /etc/yum.repos.d like below:
[remi-php56]
name=Remi's PHP 5.6 RPM repository for Enterprise Linux 6 - $basearch
#baseurl=http://rpms.remirepo.net/enterprise/6/php56/$basearch/
mirrorlist=http://rpms.remirepo.net/enterprise/6/php56/mirror
# WARNING: If you enable this repository, you must also enable "remi"
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
making sure that php56 is enabled=1.
You should run:
yum install php56w-gd
So when install php-extension have error:
*-common conflicts with php-common-5.3.3-46.el6_6.x86_64
Just type *-extension
Example:
yum install php-fpm have error
Error: php56u-common conflicts with php-common-5.3.3-46.el6_7.1.x86_64
then you should run
yum install php56u-fpm
The reason of this error is you install a php version don't match the system repo version. So yum get a version of the system repo, but this don't compatible with the php version you have installed. When you specific the php version, yum get the right version, so happy!
Go to /etc/yum.repos.d.
Remove the extra repository that you can see in your complete error message.

If you are using Centos 6.7 and have php 5.6 installed, the following command worked for me:
sudo yum install php56w-pecl-xdebug.x86_64 (I was installing xdebug, not GD)
I found this by running yum search php56
I am trying to use PHPStorm 7's built-in web server feature and I have specified the interpreter as PHP 5.4.24 but it keeps telling me this below.
How do I enable FastCGI on a Mavericks machine. I checked that it isn't configured/enabled by doing php -i on my Terminal. Any help would be appreciated. I want to test apps in the browser.
php-cgi not found
Please ensure that configured PHP Interpreter built as CGI program (--enable-fastcgi was specified)
If it's not already done install Homebrew :
ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"
Now, that we've Homebrew, tap php repositories by entering this on your terminal :
brew tap josegonzalez/php
brew tap homebrew/dupes
Check what options are available for PHP 5.4 :
brew options php54
Now install/build PHP 5.4 with some option (in your case PHP-FPM with CGI) :
brew install php54 --with-fpm --with-debug --with-cgi --with-libmysql --with-homebrew-curl
brew install fastcgi
Note : If you're not going to use Apache add --without-apache, if you need others things, just check the options and add what you need
Now, check if PHP-FPM is enable by typing this in your terminal :
php-fpm -v
If you get this :
PHP 5.4.24 (fpm-fcgi) Copyright (c)
1997-2013 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.4.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2013
Zend Technologies
You just installed PHP with FCGI like a boss..
I would tring to update my php version to the version 5.5+ latest
When I'm looking via /usr/local/bin/php -v in the console I see the version 5.5+ and with php -v it tell me there is the version 5.4 installed.
How can I remove the older version 5.4 and install latest 5.5+ latest?
Typically I've used the PHP package from liip.ch
From terminal, run:
curl -s http://php-osx.liip.ch/install.sh | bash -s 5.5
It will not remove the default installation of PHP 5.4 from your system, but it does not have any impact on using PHP 5.5. They address the issue with php -v in their FAQ.
Prerequisites
Xcode and it's Command line utilities (install form preferences) will give you a gcc compiler to build the php with libjpeg, libpng etc. if you want to build with these.
OR run this command on terminal to install Command line tools
xcode-select --install
Building and installing php:
Download the distribution from www.php.net/downloads.php
Untar the archive and point your console into the location
Now, having still the original old php installed, run php -i | head in the console. What you want is to configure your new php with these flags to ensure you have proper pcre support and everything works just fine.
In the php source directory you untarred, run the ./configure script with the flags you just got
Build php by running make and sudo make install afterwards. That will actually replace the original php distributed with OS X.
Example sample run terminal commands:
Download latest version from http://php.net and after ruin below commands
tar -zxvf php_scource.tar.gz
cd php_source/
php -i | head
./configure --prefix=/usr --with-snmp # ... same flags as previous build
make
sudo make install
end of the workflow for building php and just check latest version from terminal commands
$ php -v
sample output of php -v
PHP 5.5.10 (cli) (built: Mar 27 2014 16:50:31)
Copyright (c) 1997-2014 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.5.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2014 Zend Technologies
OSX Mavericks runs PHP from /usr/bin/php so in order to run the new version that you want from /usr/local/bin/php, you need to copy this file over to the /usr/bin directory. If you want to save your old version of php, first go to the /usr/bin directory
cd /usr/bin
and rename your old php file
sudo mv php php.old
Then go to the /usr/bin/local directory:
cd /usr/local/bin
and then copy the php file over to /usr/bin using sudo:
sudo cp php /usr/bin
OSX Mavericks has /usr/bin first in its environment path, so the php in /usr/bin is found before it gets to the php in /usr/local/bin. Once you copy your new php file over, when you run
php -v
Which will display something like:
PHP 5.6.23 (cli) (built: Jun 24 2016 21:08:07)
Copyright (c) 1997-2016 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.6.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2016 Zend Technologies
It will have your new version that was installed at /usr/local/bin/php that you copied over to /usr/bin/php instead of version 5.4. If you're running Apache and want your webserver to also use the new php version, you'll also need to update the httpd.conf file to point at the new php_module, but that's a different question.
I am using ubuntu 11.04 and when I am opening terminal and typing php -a it is showing some error like this
PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php5/20090626/gd.so' - /usr/lib/php5/20090626/gd.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0
I think there is some problem with GD library.Is there any option to solve it?
Yeah. Just try:
sudo apt-get install php5-gd
You probably will have to remove the offending line in your php.ini, either in php.ini or in
/etc/php5/conf.d/gd.ini maybe.
Probably something like
sudo apt-get install php-gd
should do it, if not try
apt-cache search php | grep gd
For me the solution was:
locate --regex /mcrypt[.]so\$ /gd[.]so\$ /suhosin[.]so\$ /pdo_mysql.so\$ /pdo[.]so /mysqli[.]so\$ '/php5/.*/mysql[.]so$'
Which returned the location of all the libraries that my php5 install was having trouble finding:
/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/gd.so
/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/mcrypt.so
/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/mysql.so
/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/mysqli.so
/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/pdo.so
/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/pdo_mysql.so
I was a little worried that these look they might be old versions, but I used their paths anyway. Stefgosselin identified the location of the ini files, /etc/php5/conf.d/. I modified them all. The command below will modify all of the *.ini files there, so make sure all of yours really need modifying. Obviously you need to use the target path you discovered with the locate command in place of mine, /usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/:
sudo sed -ri -e "s|^(extension=)(\w{2,10}[.]so)$|\1/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/\2|g" /etc/php5/conf.d/*.ini
Before finding this solution I tried several apt-get purge and apt-get reinstall commands without luck. I'm not sure, but my problem may have originated with installation of zend from source or phpmyadmin with aptitude. It never caused any php errors, just the annoying warning you mentioned. Finally php5 can launch without errors:
php5 --version
gives ...

sudo apt install php-gd will work but the thing is it will download the plugin for the latest PHP version.
If your PHP version is not the latest, then you can add version in it:
# PHP 7.1
sudo apt install php7.1-gd
# PHP 7.2:
sudo apt install php7.2-gd
# PHP 7.3
sudo apt install php7.3-gd
# PHP 7.4 (latest)
sudo apt install php-gd
