I have an array containing strings of URLs, however some of the array elements are also an array. So some might be http://google.com, others might be:
Array([0] => http://yahoo.com [1] => http://msn.com)
I am trying to add a list of all these urls to a database. However, I need the list to expand for the multi-dimensional array. i.e. the list I am trying to establish should look like:
http://google.com
http://yahoo.com
http://msn.com
So I was initially doing this through a foreach, and then I thought I could expand the multi-dimensional arrays with a foreach within a foreach, but not sure that works. This is what I have currently, but doesnt work.
foreach($allfiles as $file) {
if(is_array($file)) {
$files = $file {
foreach($files as $file)
}
}
$qry2 = mysqli_query($con,"INSERT INTO files(name) VALUES($file)");
echo '<br>'.$file;
if($qry2) echo ' -success';
else echo ' -error';
}
You can make a recursive function to dig into your array.
Take a look at this explanation
function recursiveInsert($allfiles) {
foreach($allfiles as $file) {
if(is_array($file)) {
recursiveInsert($file);
continue;
}
$qry2 = mysqli_query($con,"INSERT INTO files(name) VALUES($file)");
echo '<br>'.$file;
if($qry2) echo ' -success';
else echo ' -error';
}
}

Hi am trying to read a directory for html files and put them in array and retrieve one by one.
i used following code
$filelist = glob($directory."/*.html");
$val=natsort($filelist); // Sort the array
foreach($filelist as $key => $value)
{
echo " $value , ";
}
$next=0;
$ns=$next+"1";
$filelist1=$filelist[$ns];
echo $filelist1;
am getting html files in a array but not able to retrieve one by one
please suggest
Thanks
That's echoing each item, not returning an array. Maybe it would be more clear if you change
echo " $value , ";
to
echo "ITEM $value ENDITEM , ";
Works for me
$directory = "./dir";
$filelist = glob($directory."/*.html");
sort($filelist);
foreach ($filelist as $filename) {
echo "$filename, ";
}
Also you may use
echo implode(', ', $filelist);
Instead of foreach
Return result like this:
./dir/christmas_en.html, ./dir/christmas_fr.html, ./dir/etpl_winphone.html,
I'm trying to check MD5 of some data with md5 some files, both of them are stored in one dimensional arrays. Say I have 4 files in the $files array with the same number of $datas, the following code prints "NO DIFFERENCE" 12 times instead of 4 times.
foreach($files as $file) {
foreach($datas as $data) {
if(md5($data) !== md5_file($file)) {
echo "NO DIFFERENCE";
}
}
}
How do I prevent duplicating a loop?
Update:
Both arrays $datas and $files contains equal number of values but the tricky part is the values in $files array starts from key number 2 (because I removed "." and ".." from scandir result) whereas in $datas array values start from key number 0.
the following code prints "NO DIFFERENCE" 12 times instead of 4 times.
The reason for that is you have a nested loop.
For each value in the $files array, your inner foreach will run once.
So say if you have 3 values in $files and 4 values in $datas, the loop will run as follows:
First value in $files iterated
Inner loop runs, and iterates through all 4 values in $datas
Second value in $files iterated
Inner loop runs, and iterates through all 4 values in $datas
Third value in $files iterated
Inner loop runs, and iterates through all 4 values in $datas
Try this with one loop like this :
foreach($datas as $key => $value) {
if(md5($value) !== md5_file($files[$key])) {
echo "NO DIFFERENCE";
}
}
Note: The loop work when you have same no of values for both arrays
If you want to compare md5(files) to the mfs5(datas) you can simply do this:
for ($i = 0; $i < sizeof($files); $i++){
if(md5($datas[$i]) !== md5_file($files[$i+2]))
echo "NO DIFFERENCE";
}
If you want to check if each file have one corresponding md5(datas) then you should use you double loop as you did.
First, are you sure that !== is the operator you want to use to say 'no difference' ?
If you are looking for equality, maybe you want to use ===
Second, md5(...) is time consuming, so extract the hash in a variable.
Third, if you mean equality, you can add a break in the inner loop to stop looping as soon as you find the equality.
foreach($files as $file) {
$md5File = md5_file($file); // extract in a variable
foreach($datas as $data) {
if(md5($data) === $md5File) { // === instead of !==
echo "NO DIFFERENCE";
break; // break as soon as possible
}
}
}
You could use a callback function. But then you should be clear about how exactly you will describe an algorithm of your problem.
The following sample shows how to maybe achieve it. But it assumes that the arrays are in the same order and that you don't want to cross-compare everything. Also array_udiff may not be the best approach for it.
function compare_by_md5($data, $file) {
if( md5($data) === md5_file($file)) {
echo "NO DIFFERENCE";
}
}
array_udiff($datas, $files, 'compare_by_md5');
Sample is shown here: http://codepad.org/lYOyCuXA
If you simply want to detect if there is a difference:
$dataHashes = array();
foreach($datas as $data) {
$dataHashes[md5($data)] = true;
}
$different = false;
foreach($files as $file) {
if(!isset($dataHashes[md5_file($file)])) {
$different = true;
break;
}
}
var_dump($different);
If you want to know which files are different, then:
$dataHashes = array();
foreach($datas as $data) {
$dataHashes[md5($data)] = true;
}
foreach($files as $file) {
if(!isset($dataHashes[md5_file($file)])) {
echo $file, 'is different', PHP_EOL;
}
}
can anybody let me know why array_search doesnt works for me? All i want is to search value and and get corresponding key value
for eg if i search wiliam i should get 4.. Its simple but aint working for me
<?php
$fqlResult[0]['uid']='1';
$fqlResult[0]['name']='Jay';
$fqlResult[1]['uid']='2';
$fqlResult[1]['name']='UserName2';
$fqlResult[2]['uid']='3';
$fqlResult[2]['name']='Frances';
$fqlResult[3]['uid']='4';
$fqlResult[3]['name']='William';
for($i=0;$i<count($fqlResult);$i++)
{
$userdbname="'".$fqlResult[$i]['name']."'";
$userdb[$userdbname]="'".$fqlResult[$i]['uid']."'";
}
echo "<pre>";
print_r($userdb);
echo "</pre>";
echo array_search('4', $userdb);
?>
It doesn't work because array_seach searches values and "William" is a key. To complicate things, your values and keys are wrapped in single quotes during the for loop.
You'd want to do something like this:
if ( ! empty($userdb["'William'"]) )
{
// Echoes "'4'"
echo $userdb["'William'"];
}
// To find user ID "'4'"
// Outputs "'William'"
echo array_search("'4'", $userdb);
If you don't want things wrapped in single quotes, you'll need to change your for loop as follows:
for($i=0;$i<count($fqlResult);$i++)
{
$userdbname=$fqlResult[$i]['name'];
$userdb[$userdbname]=$fqlResult[$i]['uid'];
}
if ( ! empty($userdb["William"]) )
{
// Outputs "4" (without the single quotes)
echo $userdb["William"];
}
// To find user ID "4" (without the single quotes)
// Outputs "William"
echo array_search('4', $userdb);
array_search() searches values, not keys.
If you want to check the existence of something that you use as a key in an array, you can just use isset:
if(isset($userdb['William'])) {
echo "$userdb[William] is William's uid!";
}
for($i=0;$i<count($fqlResult);$i++)
{
$userdbname=$fqlResult[$i]['uid'];
$userdb[$userdbname]=$fqlResult[$i]['name'];
}
Change
$userdb[$userdbname]="'".$fqlResult[$i]['uid']."'";
with this
$userdb[$i] = "{$fqlResult[$i]['name']}";
array_search only works with arrays of scalar data. You're trying to search an array of arrays. You can easily search the array yourself:
function search_array_col($array, $col, $val)
{
foreach ($array as $key => $a)
{
if ($a[$col] == $val) return $key;
}
return null;
}
echo search_array_col($fqlResult, 'name', 'William') , "\n";
echo search_array_col($fqlResult, 'uid', '4') , "\n";
Edit: n/m, I misread your code. However, you could still use this to search your original array, so I'll leave the answer for reference.
try this:
foreach($fqlResult as $result)
{
$name = $result["name"];
$uid = $result["uid"];
$userdb[$name] = $uid;
}
then you want to use array_key_exists() to find the key. array_search() only works for searching values, not keys.
$nameExists = array_key_exists("William",$userdb);
You can remove the quotes in the $userdbname="'".$fqlResult[$i]['name']."'";
rewrite it to
$userdbname= $fqlResult[$i]['name'];
i am tring to put a loop to echo a number inside an echo ;
and i tried as bellow :
$array = array();
$result = mysql_query("SHOW TABLES FROM `st_db_1`");
while($row = mysql_fetch_row($result) ){
$result_tb = mysql_query("SELECT id FROM $row[0] LIMIT 1");
$row_tb=mysql_fetch_array($result_tb);
$array[] = $row[0];
$array2[] = $row_tb[0];
//checking for availbility of result_tb
/* if (!$result_tb) {
echo "DB Error, could not list tablesn";
echo 'MySQL Error: ' . mysql_error();
exit;
} */
}
natsort($array);
natsort($array2);
foreach ($array as $item[0] ) {
echo "<a href=show_cls_db.php?id= foreach ($array2 as $item2[0]){echo \"$item2[0]\"}>{$item[0]}<br/><a/>" ;
}
but php is not considering foreach loop inside that echo ;
please suggest me something
As mentioned by others, you cannot do loops inside a string. What you are trying to do can be achieved like this:
foreach ($array as $element) {
echo "<a href='show_cls_db.php?id=" . implode('', $array2) . "'>{$element}</a><br/>";
}
implode(...) concatenates all values of the array, with a separator, which can be an empty string too.
Notes:
I think you want <br /> outside of <a>...</a>
I don't see why you would want to used $item[0] as a temporary storage for traverser array elements (hence renamed to $element)
Just use implode instead of trying to loop the array,
foreach ($array as $item)
{
echo implode("",$array2);
}
other wise if you need to do other logic for each variable then you can do something like so:
foreach ($array as $item)
{
echo '<a href="show_details.php?';
foreach($something as $something_else)
{
echo $something_else;
}
echo '">Value</a>';
}
we would have to see the contents of the variables to understand what your trying to do.
As a wild guess I would think your array look's like:
array(
id => value
)
And as you was trying to access [0] within the value produced by the initial foreach, you might be trying to get the key and value separate, try something like this:
foreach($array as $id => $value)
{
echo $id; //This should be the index
echo $value; //This should be the value
}
foreach ($array as $item ) {
echo "<a href=\"show_cls_db.php?id=";
foreach ($array2 as $item2) { echo $item2[0]; }
echo "\">{$item[0]}<br/><a/>" ;
}
No offense but this code is... rough. Post it on codereview.stackexchange.com for some help re-factoring it. A quick tip for now would be to use PDO, and at the least, escape your inputs.
Anyway, as the answers have pointed out, you have simply echoed out a string with the "foreach" code inside it. Take it out of the string. I would probably use implode as RobertPitt suggested. Consider sorting and selecting your data from your database more efficiently by having mysql do the sorting. Don't use as $item[0] as that makes absolutely no sense at all. Name your variables clearly. Additionally, your href tag is malformed - you may not see the correct results even when you pull the foreach loop out of the echo, as your browser may render it all away. Make sure to put those quotes where they should be.
I'm looking for a way to glob a directory and sort the contents by time/date and print it on the PHP page. There must be a way to do this, I've tried the following code but it won't print anything out on the page:
<?php
$files = glob("subdir/*");
$files = array_combine($files, array_map("filemtime", $files));
arsort($files);
?>
print_r wont work because I need just the file name. I'm new to PHP arrays so I need as much help as I can get!
Given your original code:
$files = glob("subdir/*");
$files = array_combine($files, array_map("filemtime", $files));
arsort($files);
From there you could either loop on the array of sorted filename/mtime pairs, or create a new array with just the filenames (in their sorted order).
The first looks like:
foreach ($files as $file => $mtime) {
echo $file . " ";
}
The second could be:
foreach (array_keys($files) as $file) {
echo $file . " ";
}
Depending on your needs, it might also be okay to simply:
echo implode(" ", array_keys($files));
Sounds like you're looking for foreach
foreach($files as $filename=>$mtime){
echo AS INTENDED;
}
