How do I update a database column based on a value from a different column?
I have a query like the following which pulls current usage (example: 200):
$currentusage = CurrentPercentageModel::select('current_usage')->where('name', '=', 'User Name')->get();
I would like to update the same value +1 after the each time it passes certain conditions.
My save query would look like this and adds a new row to the table with the new value (example: 201):
$currentusage = $currentusage + 1;
$savecurrentusage = new CurrentPercentageModel;
$savecurrentusage->current_usage = $currentusage;
$savecurrentusage->save();
How do I update the same value from the one I pull from my query?
A bit messy but should works
$model = CurrentPercentageModel::where('name', '=', 'User Name')->first();
$model->current_usage += 1;
$model->save();
If you just want to add 1 to one of the fields, I guess the simplest way will be using Query Builder's increment() method:
DB::table('current_percentage')->increment('current_usage');
If you want to use Eloquent, you can do this:
$current = CurrentPercentageModel::where('name', '=', 'User Name')->first();
$current->update(['current_usage' => ++$current->current_usage]);
Try this
$currentPercent = CurrentPercentageModel::where('name', '=', 'User Name')->first();
$currentusage = $currentPercent->currentusage + 1;
$currentPercent->current_usage = $currentusage;
$currentPercent->save();

I've set up a database and want to update the column status for each row in my UsersController:
I started with this:
User::where('id', '=', 1)->update(['status' => $status]);
This is working, but I need some loop to change all the rows, something like this:
foreach $id from the table
run some code to change individual $status variable
set individual $status value in the 'status' column in each row:
User::where('id', '=', $id)->update(['status' => $status])
end foreach
So for me its unclear how to go through the table via the foreach. Then save the calculated status from my code to each individual id?
#Serge solution is fine for few records but you should be able to use chuck as #ceejayoz suggested
User::chunk(100, function ($users) {
$users->each(function ($user) {
$user->status = getStatus($user);
$user->save();
});
});
Unless the table contains millions of rows... a simple procedural way of doing it is...
$users = Users::get(); // Gets a collection of all users...
foreach ( $users as $user ) {
//compute your status
$user->status = get_your_user_status($user->id);
$user->save();
}
You could also consider using a more functional approach with map for example...
I have some problems here.
I get a collection which like:
$VenderData=Vender::where('active', '=', '1')->get();
Inside the collection i have a column called 'type' and the data looks like 'A1,A2,A3,'
or
'A1,A3,'
I want to transfer those codes to real names from
another table 'vender_type'.
code name
A1 XX
A2 OO
A3 ZZ
then add a new column into the original collection $VenderData.
How can i do this?
You must split the type attribute (using array explode(string $delimiter , string $string)) , and get the name of each one from vender_type table, try this :
$VenderData = Vender::where('active', '=', '1')->get();
foreach($VenderData as $vend)
{
$vend->new_type = array();
$types = explode(",", $vend->type);
foreach($types as $type)
{
$t = vender_type::where('code', $type)->first();
if($t)
$vend->name_type[] = $t->name;
// or for example : $vend->name_type[$type] = $t->name;
}
}
I hope that will help you.
I think that you need better query than modifying each value after. This vender_type is probably some foreign key in you database so you can get that value in query builder. To find out about foreign keys and joins in laravel eloquent check this.
Basically you need something like this
$users = DB::table('table1')
->join('table2', 'table1.vender_type', '=', 'table2.vender_type')
->select('table1.code', 'table1.name', 'table2.vender_type')
->where('table1.active', '=', '1')
->get();
Just replace table1 and table2 with values of you table names in database and you're done.
Hope it helps
I'm new to Laravel and here's my issue.
I have a table currentpercentage.
This is the structure of the table currentpercentage
currentpercentage(**id**, name, total_cap, current_usage, created_at, updated_at)
I'm trying to calculate percentage of current usage; based on total_cap and current usage.
total_cap = 1000,
current_usage = 237,
name = User Name
In my controller i've setup a query to get the value of total_cap and the value of current_usage then calculate that the percentage would be.
When i call my query, it returns an array with the column name (total_cap) and value (1000). Same as when i query for current_usage.
{
"currentpercentage": [
{
"total_cap": 1000
}
]
}
I just want the query to return just the number (1000) without the array.
This is my query
$totalcap = CurrentPercentageModel::select('total_cap')->where('name', '=', 'User Name')->get();
How do I just get the value. Or is there an easier way to calculate the percentage from one query?
CurrentPercentageModel //What I use to connect to the database. DB Model
The problem is that you are using the get method which returns a collection even when you only have one row.
$totalcap = CurrentPercentageModel::select('total_cap')->where('name', '=', 'User Name')->get();
If you just want one record and one column value, then use the value method to get just the value of the column, more info here (you might have to scroll a little bit)
$totalcap = CurrentPercentageModel::select('total_cap')->where('name', '=', 'User Name')->value('total_cap');
what i am trying to do is to get distinct values (date) of my Model and for each date the display the corresponding data. When i make pagination of the distinct dates, it works fine, but in the pagination pages i see all the results instead of the distinct. Here is my function:
public function showdaily($id) {
$capacities = array();
// DB::enableQueryLog();
$capacity_daily = CapacityDaily::select('for_date')->where('capacity_id', '=', $id)->orderBy('for_date', 'asc')->distinct()->paginate(2);
// dd(DB::getQueryLog());
foreach($capacity_daily as $cap) {
$get_capacity = CapacityDaily::where('capacity_id', '=', $id)->where('for_date', '=', $cap->for_date)->orderBy('for_date', 'asc')->distinct()->get();
$capacities[] = array('for_date' => $cap->for_date, 'values' => $get_capacity, 'capacity' => Capacity::find($id)->first());
}
return view('admin.capacity.daily', compact('capacities', 'capacity_daily', 'id'));
}
I have totally 4 distinct dates and 96 rows in that table. As i want to display only 2 dates per page it should show me only one additional page available, but instead of that i have from 1-47.
What i make wrong ?
The toSql() method will show the query it is running, but I suspect you need to group on for_date rather than use distinct
$capacity_daily = CapacityDaily::select('for_date')->where('capacity_id', '=', $id)->orderBy('for_date', 'asc')->groupBy('for_date')->paginate(2);
I know to check how to fetch a particular item in laravel like
$PackCount = PackModel::where('PackId', Input::get('packid'))->count();
But how can i check whether the items are matches another two coloumn i.e.,
where condition for IsActive and IsAvailable ?
If you want to have more where in your Query then just do
$PackCount = PackModel::where('PackId', Input::get('packid'))->where('IsActive', '=', '1')->where('IsAvailable', '=', '1')->count();
Read more about Advance Where here
Try this..
$count = PackModel::where('PackId', Input::get('packid'))->where('IsActive', '1')->where('IsAvailable', '1')->count();
