I want to use mod rewrite via htaccess for a PHP website.
URL structure is the following:
example.com/ex.php?ez=DF004AE
It must become:
example.com/ex/DF004AE.htm
What is the correct script to add to my .htaccess in order to do that?
Use this:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^ex/([^/]*)\.htm$ /ex.php?ez=$1 [L]
It will give you the following URL:
example.com/ex/DF004AE.htm
If you meant it to be .html (not .htm) Just add the l in the RewriteRule.
You can use the following rules :
RewriteEngine on
# Redirect from "/ex.php?ez=foobar" to "/ex/foobar.htm"
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} /ex\.php\?ez=([^\s]+) [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /ex/%1.htm? [L,R]
####################
# internally map "/ex/foobar.htm" to "/ex.php?ez=foobar"
RewriteRule ^ex/([^.]+)\.htm$ /ex.php?ez=$1 [NC,L]
This will convert /ex.php?ez=foobar into /ex/foobar.htm .
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^ex/([^/]*)\.html$ /ex.php?ez=$1 [R=301,NE,L]
If you don't want the address bar to reflect this change, remove R=301. The NE parameter is there to make sure that the request is not escaped.

A normal link of my site may look like this
mydomain.com/categorylist/8/Special_Single_Songs.html
I'm planning to change the URL pattern to something like
mydomain.com/categorylist/8-Special-Single-Songs.html
How can I redirect the old URL pattern to the new one using .htaccess redirect rule?
My .htaccess Rewrite rule look like this
RewriteRule ^categorylist/([0-9]+)/([0-9a-z]+)/([0-9]+)/(.*)\.html$ /index.php?pid=$1&sort=$2&page=$3 [L]
Try this code
RewriteRule ^categorylist/([0-9]+)/([0-9a-z]+)/([0-9]+)/(.*).html$ /index.php?pid=$1&sort=$2&page=$3 [L]
RewriteRule ^categorylist/([0-9]+)\-([0-9a-z]+)/([0-9]+)/(.*).html$ /index.php?pid=$1&sort=$2&page=$3 [L]
try this & put it on top after RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^categorylist([^_]*)_([^_]*_.*).html$ $1-$2 [L,NE]
RewriteRule ^categorylist([^_]*)_([^_]*).html$ /$1-$2 [L,NE,R=301]
note : big number of underscores can be a problem
Mod rewrite novice here. I want to pass two URL parameters in the URL, but in a more friendlier format. If user passes, "example.com/blah123/sys", I should be able to extract the MySQL record "blah123" and the mode type "sys", in this case. Here's the example:
URL:
example.com/blah123/sys
In the .htaccess, I have:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^([^/.]+)/?$ index.php?id=$1
The above works if the URL passed is: "example.com/blah123", but not "example.com/blah123/sys".
I tried the following, but it is not working:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^([^/.]+)/?$/?$ index.php?id=$1?mode=$1
I need to extract the "mode" type passed in the second argument. So, if the user enters "example.com/blah123/sys", I should be able to get the value "sys" from the URL. How can I do that? I want to use PHP, MySql, .htacess.
UPDATE:
My current .htaccess:
# Use PHP 5.3
AddType application/x-httpd-php53 .php
RewriteEngine On
#RewriteRule ^([^/.]+)/?$ index.php?id=$1
RewriteRule ^([^/.]+)/([^/.]+)/?$ index.php?id=$1&mode=$2 [L,QSA]
Your regex is wrong. You cannot have $ following another $ in an input since $ denotes end of text.
This rule should work:
RewriteEngine On
# new rule to handle example.com/blah123/sys
RewriteRule ^(\w+)/(\w+)/?$ /index.php?id=$1&mode=$2 [L,QSA]
# your existing rule to handle example.com/blah123
RewriteRule ^(\w+)/?$ /index.php?id=$1 [L,QSA]
I have a link like below:
In /country/search.php
<a href="<?php echo 'index.php?departments='.$value['department_id'].'&towns='.$value['town_id'].'&type='.$value['type_id'].'&id='.$value['id'] ?>">
When I use the below .htaccess code, it does nothing:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^([^/]*)/([^/]*)/([^/]*)/([^/]*)$ /country/index.php?departments=$1&towns=$2&type=$3&id=$4 [L]
It does in the tool:
http://example.com/0/0/4/122
... but when I click that link it shows old URL again.
What is the problem here?
I'm generating that .htaccess code using this tool: http://www.generateit.net/mod-rewrite/
Replace your code with this:
Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
# Turn mod_rewrite on
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
# external redirect from actual URL to pretty URL
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,}\s/+(index\.php|)\?departments=([^\s&]*)&towns=([^\s&]*)&type=([^\s&]*)&id=([^\s&]*) [NC]
RewriteRule ^ %1/%2/%3/%4/%5? [R=301,L]
# internal forward from pretty URL to actual URL
RewriteRule ^([^/]*)/([^/]*)/([^/]*)/([^/]*)/?$ /country/index.php?departments=$1&towns=$2&type=$3&id=$4 [L,QSA]
I think you misunderstood what the rewrite rules are trying to achieve in this context.
F.e. this rewrite rule
RewriteRule ^([^/]*)/([^/]*)$ /app.php?method=$1&arg=$2
Will ensure that a request to http://example.com/mymethod/myarg will be rewritten to
http://example.com/app.php?method=mymethod&arg=myarg
When you generate links from within your application you should know how you contstructed the rewrite rules and you have to build the link accordingly.
Original URL:
href="news.php?state="<?php echo $sql_res['state']?>"&country="<?php echo $sql_res['country']?>
Ideal URL:
/India/andhra%20Pradesh
And .htaccess code:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^([^/]*)/([^/]*)$ /news.php?country=$1&state=$2 [L]
I have the following htaccess rewrite rules
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/(.*).html?$ show.php?name=$1
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/(.*)/season-(.*).html?$ show.php?name=$1&season=$2
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/(.*)/season-(.*)/episode-(.*).html?$ show.php?name=$1&season=$2&episode=$3
Now the thing is, the first rewrite rule works just fine
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/(.*).html?$ show.php?name=$1
It's just when I try using the others, only name get variable is being passed and not
$_GET['season']
or
$_GET['episode']
i know it's most likely something simple I'm missing or have done, but I just can't seem to get it working.
Give this a try:
Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/([^/]+)/season-([^/]+)/episode-([^/]+).html?$ show.php?name=$1&season=$2&episode=$3 [QSA,NC,L]
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/([^/]+)/season-([^/]+).html?$ show.php?name=$1&season=$2 [QSA,NC,L]
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/([^.]+)\.html?$ show.php?name=$1 [QSA,NC,L]
The order is very important so they don't overlap you also need the L flag to stop when needed.
This assumes your .htaccess is on the root folder of your domain along with the show.php file and that you are accessing it like this:
domain.com/shows-watch/Show Name.html
domain.com/shows-watch/Show Name/season-1.html
domain.com/shows-watch/Show Name/season-1/episode-10.html
The first line gets all the links because it matches all the links.
Try reverse the order:
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/(.*)/season-(.*)/episode-(.*).html?$ show.php?name=$1&season=$2&episode=$3
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/(.*)/season-(.*).html?$ show.php?name=$1&season=$2
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/(.*).html?$ show.php?name=$1
Or you can exclude slashes like this:
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/([^/]*).html?$ show.php?name=$1
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/([^/]*)/season-([^/]*).html?$ show.php?name=$1&season=$2
RewriteRule ^shows-watch/([^/]*)/season-([^/]*)/episode-([^/]*).html?$ show.php?name=$1&season=$2&episode=$3
I want to rewrite my apache mod_rewrite pattern. I use to do with following:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule /^([^A-Z0-9a-z]+)\.html /search.php?search_id=$1&%{QUERY_STRING}
With the above rule I can't get what I expecting.
Can anyone tell what is wrong with my code and how to solve it.
Edited.
my requirement is simple.
I want to redirect if i enter /1.html to /search.php?search_id=1
Thats it.
This should work:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !search\.php
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/([0-9]+)\.html [NC]
RewriteRule .* search.php?search_id=%1 [L,QSA]
Maps silently
http://example.com/FileID.html
To:
http://example.com/search.php?search_id=FileID
search.php is considered a fixed string, while FileID can be any number.
For permanent redirection, replace [L,QSA] with [R=301,L,QSA]
You have a typo in your rule try this:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^/([^A-Z0-9a-z]+)\.html /search.php?search_id=$1&%{QUERY_STRING}
By the way you could also try to use this:
RewriteRule ^/?([^A-Z0-9a-z]+)\.html /search.php?search_id=$1&%{QUERY_STRING}
This makes the leading slash optional.
Are you typing 1.html after the domain? That is if your domain is example.com, then you type example.com/1.html?
If it is you are doing then don't use / before the regular expression in .htaccess file.
Try adding the following into your main .htaccess file. That is located in the directory which has your home page of the website:
RewriteEngine On
#RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9]+)\.html/?$ /search.php?search_id=$1 [NC, L]
I have used RewriteBase as a comment. If you use a shared server then keep it as a comment or delete the line.
EDIT: [NC, L] use to tell that, NC flag for rule no need to be case sensitive (no case) and L flag for stop if this was matched.
