I am using Linux Mint and apache2 with php5.6.
After installing everything it shows me that mbstring is required. After doing sudo apt-get install php5.6-mbstring php5.6-mcrypt php5.6-mysql php5.6-xml
it shows me that I have the newest version already.
I also changed ;extension=php_mbstring.dll to extension=php_mbstring.dll in /etc/php/5.6/apache2/php.ini
I did sudo service apache2 restart
Could anyone help me on this please?

You're trying to load a .dll file on Linux. Those are for Windows.
You need to load the equivalent .so file for Linux.
apachectl configtest --verbose should also help you here.
Well, what I actually did was deleting everything: php, php extensions, phpmyadmin, sql, everything and installing once again the most recent versions.

I'm new to linux. Installed apache2, mysql-server, php 7.0 and phpmyadmin on my Linux Mint 18.1.
Installation went fine, but localhost/phpmyadmin gives error (see title).
Tried:
uncommenting "extension_dir" in php.ini
uncommenting mbstring.dll extension in php.ini
making link from /var/www/html/phpmyadmin to /usr/share/phpmyadmin
reinstalling php7.0-mbstring
but neither worked.

If you have Apache and PHP running correctly, you should install the mbstring extension on PHP and restart Apache:
sudo apt-get install php7.0-mbstring
sudo service httpd restart
Restarting Apache is a step that most people forget about. Some distributions will restart Apache by themselves when you install any PHP extension, other don't.
Using the CakePHP docs, I am trying to install 3.0-beta2 using composer but I got this error:
cakephp/cakephp 3.0.x-dev requires ext-intl * -> the requested PHP extension intl is missing from your system
However, I know for sure that intl is installed (it shows on phpinfo). I'm using PHP 5.4.33/Apache 2.4.10.1
I faced the same problem today. You need to enable the intl PHP extension in your PHP configuration (.ini).
Solution Xampp (Windows)
Open /xampp/php/php.ini
Change ;extension=php_intl.dll to extension=php_intl.dll (remove the semicolon)
Copy all the /xampp/php/ic*.dll files to /xampp/apache/bin
Restart apache in the Xampp control panel

Install the php5-intl extension sudo apt-get install php5-intl
1.1. Alternatively use sudo yum install php5-intl if you are on CentOS or Fedora.
Restart apache sudo service apache2 restart

Install the php5-intl extension brew install php56-intl
If you get No available formula for php56-intl follow these instructions.
Restart apache sudo apachectl restart
Eventually you can run composer install to check if it's working. It will give an error if it's not.

OS X Homebrew (May 2015):
The intl extension has been removed from the main php5x formulas, so you no longer compile with the --enable-intl flag.

The error message clearly states what the problem is. You need the intl extension installed.
Step 1: install PHP intl you comfortable version

In my case I was not actually trying to run cakephp locally, I was just trying to get it to auto update locally using composer (because I am playing with writing plugins that you install with composer). Since I don't actually even run it locally I could simply ignore requirements by adding the --ignore-platform-reqs flag.
php composer.phar update --ignore-platform-reqs
In my case, my running php version is 7.1.x on mac OSX .
I installed intl command using brew install php71-intl.
Placing extension=intl.so inside php.ini was no effect at all. Finally i looked for extension installed directory and there i saw intl.so and placed that path (extension=/usr/local/Cellar/php71-intl/7.1.11_20/intl.so) to my php.ini file and it solved my problem.
In my case (xampp PHP 8.0)
Find ;extension=intl in /xampp/php/php.ini
Remove ; and Restart Apache

In XAMPP, intl extension is included but you have to uncomment extension=php_intl.dll in php.ini and restart the server through the XAMPP Control Panel.
In WAMP, the intl extension is “activated” by default but not working. To make it work you have to go to php folder (by default) C:\wamp\bin\php\php{version}, copy all the files that looks like icu*.dll and paste them into the apache bin directory C:\wamp\bin\apache\apache{version}\bin. Then restart all services and it should be OK.

Restart Apache service for the changes to take effect.

I'm using Mac OS High Sierra and none of these worked for me. But after searching a lot I found one that worked!
This may seem trivial, but in fact about 2 months ago some clever guys made changes in brew repository, so doing just: brew install php71-intl will show you error with message that such recipe doesn’t exists.
Fortunately, there is. There is temporary fix in another brew repo, so all you have to do is:
brew tap kyslik/homebrew-php
brew install kyslik/php/php71-intl

If there are no result(s) from this command, you should just go ahead and install the module:

I'm trying to install Facebook PHP SDK with Composer. This is what I get
$ composer install

Problem 1
- Installation request for facebook/php-sdk dev-master -> satisfiable by facebook/php-sdk[dev-master].
- facebook/php-sdk dev-master requires ext-curl * -> the requested PHP extension curl is missing from your system.
Problem is, I have curl extension enabled (uncommented in php.ini). When I run phpinfo(), it says it's enabled.
Only clue I have is that when I run $ php -m, 'curl' line is missing but I don't know what to do about it.
I have wamp 2.4 on Win8 and I'm running composer in cmd.exe.
This is caused because you don't have a library php5-curl installed in your system,

After installing composer using the command curl -sS https://getcomposer.org/installer | php just run a sudo apt-get update then reinstall curl with sudo apt-get install php5-curl. Then composer's installation process should work so you can finally run php composer.phar install to get the dependencies listed in your composer.json file.
on php7 run for example:
> sudo apt-get install php-curl
> sudo apt-get install php-mbstring
for every missing extension. Then:
> sudo apt-get update
and finally (in the project's root folder):
> composer install
As Danack said in comments, there are 2 php.ini files. I uncommented the line with curl extension in the one in Apache folder, which is php.ini used by the web server.
Composer, on the other hand, uses php for console which is a whole different story. Php.ini file for that program is not the one in Apache folder but it's in the PHP folder and I had to uncomment the line in it too. Then I ran the installation again and it was OK.
I ran into the same issue trying to install Dropbox SDK.
CURL was indeed enabled on my system but this meant by the php.ini in the wamp\bin\apache folder.
I simply had to manually edit the php.ini situated in wamp\bin\php, uncomment the extension=php_curl.dll line, restart Wamp and it worked perfectly.
Why there are those 2 php.ini and only one is used is still a mystery for me...

I had this problem after upgrading to PHP5.6. My answer is very similar to Adriano's, except I had to run:
sudo apt-get install php5.6-curl
Notice the "5.6". Installing php5-curl didn't work for me.
For anyone who encounters this issue on Windows i couldn't find my answer on google at all.
I just tried running composer require ext-curl and this worked.
Alternatively add the following in your composer.json file:
"require": {
"ext-curl": "^7.3"
}
According to https://github.com/composer/composer/issues/2119 you could extend your local composer.json to state that it provides the extension (which it doesn't really do - that's why you shouldn't publicly publish your package, only use it internally).
I ran into a similar issue when trying to get composer to install some dependencies.
It turns out the .dll my version of Wamp came with had a conflict, I am guessing, with 64 bit Windows.

I downloaded "php_curl-5.4.3-VC9-x64.zip". I just overwrote the dll inside the wamp/bin/php/php5.4.3/ext directory with the dll that was in the zip file and composer worked again.
I am running 64 bit Windows 8.

Not sure why an answer with Linux commands would get so many up votes for a Windows related question, but anyway...
If phpinfo() shows Curl as enabled, yet php -m does NOT, it means that you probably have a php-cli.ini too. run php -i and see which ini file loaded. If it's different, diff it and reflect and differences in the CLI ini file. Then you should be good to go.
Btw download and use Git Bash instead of cmd.exe!
I have Archlinux with php 7.2, which has Curl integrated, so no amount of configuration voodoo would make Composer see ext-curl, that PHP could see and work with happily. Work around is to use Composer with --ignore-platform-reqs.
eg composer update --ignore-platform-reqs

In my case I moved from PHP5 to PHP7 and I ve got this error,
Simply go to your /bin/php/php7/php.ini , then uncomment extension=php_curl.dll and restart your server, re-run your composer install.
If you getting error like php7.2-curl doesn't have installable candidate or not locate any package or dependencies is php7.2-common Or libcurl3 Do this
You have to tackle in mature way. Install aptitude these ubuntu package manager will finds all dependencies, and will install one by one.
apt-get install aptitude
Now you have to check if aptitude can download it or not if download it follow instructions
sudo aptitude install php7.2-curl
If you have gotten any error like this
E: Unable to locate package php7.2-curl
E: Couldn't find any package by glob 'php7.2-curl'
Any type on error i'm not talking about proper these errors
Try to add php package again
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ondrej/php

systemctl restart httpd
It will Not enabling PHP 7.2 FPM by default.
NOTICE: To enable PHP 7.2 FPM in Apache2 do
a2enmod proxy_fcgi setenvif
a2enconf php7.2-fpm
This method is not only for this error you can find any of php apache2 or ubuntu system package solution using aptitude.

I see everywhere (including on the official docs) that the PDO_SQLITE driver is/should be included by default in PHP.
However, when I look at my extension_directory, I see only these files:
gd.so mcrypt.so mysqli.so mysql.so pdo_mysql.so pdo.so
And, as a result, a framework I'm trying to install (Symfony) tells me I need to install either the PDO_SQLITE or the SQLite3 .so extensions...
Can anyone help? Can I just try and find the needed .so file somewhere on the web, place it in my extensions_directory and then include it in php.ini??
BTW: I'm running php 5.3.6 downloaded via apt-get on ubuntu.

I'm needing mailparse installed on my xampp.
I've done pecl install mailparse but I get an error that mbstring is not installed, but it is.. Or at least that is what phpinfo() says.
So I'm doing /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles: sudo ./bin/pecl install --nodeps mailparse
BUT.. when the make starts it fails with a big load of errors... How can I install mailparse on a xampp installation? Or maybe I could compile it? but not sure how, not in osx...
Any ideas?

FIXED! if someone is interested on the solution, you must have installed devel-package of XAMPP, and run the pecl script having in mind that must be comipled for i386 arch.
