I am using eclipse oxygen for php developers, trying to run php project with version 5.6.
Installed php version: 5.6
PHP version in project facets: 5.6
I tried to follow the the below tutorial, however I could not find php -> interpreter in neither project level nor workspace level.

How to resolve module(project?) version complaint?
I run in the same problem when I tried to run/debug a PHP project via Run As -> Run On Server.
Since you have not developed in detail your case I will try to present my case such that you might understand what might cause the problem and how to fix it.
So what I did was to choose the Run -> Run As -> Run on Server menu when a wizard-like dialog box was shown. I choose the PHP's Built-in Server, specified a PHP installed executable (like 5.6) then in the next screen ("Modify the resources that are configured on the server") by trying to move my project from the "Available" list to the "Configured" list I've got a notice error like the one you mentioned in the title. In my case the project was configured with PHP 7.1 while the PHP executable chosen in the "Run on Server" dialog box was 5.6, thus the conflict.
So the problem is that your project is defined to be validated by one PHP version while you are trying to run/debug it with another PHP version. What you can do to fix this is one of the following:
either choose a PHP executable for your "Run on Server" session that is compatible with the project's PHP version; this can be done easy right in the "Run on Server" screen .
either configure your PHP project to be validate by the same PHP version as the one you are trying to run/debug your project with; this can be done by right-click the project -> Properties -> PHP -> Validation then choosing the right PHP version
I hope it helps.

I got this job, and they use Magento 2, and I noticed that it can only run with php 7 and up. What is weird is that it runs on the company's server, but when I try to run (in Magento's bin directory) this command:
php magento --version
I get the message that it cannot run on PHP 5.4, and everything tells me the server is running PHP 5.4. I downloaded the Magento 2 website, and there is no alteration. It won't run in my localhost unless I switch to PHP 7.
But how is it running online? The directory is /var/www/vhosts, and /var/www/html is empty. What did the previous programmer do to make it run?
The answer is simple: the previous programmer installed the Magento website using Plesk. The latter allows you to choose which version of PHP you want to run.
In order to run something like (magento-root)/bin/php magento --version, for example, I had to replace php with the Plesk version, which was here:
/opt/plesk/php/7.0/bin/php
The default version of PHP on this server is 5.4, but Plesk is using its own version.
Eclipse for PHP Developers
Version: Oxygen Release (4.7.0)
Build id: 20170620-1800
How can I change the PHP Language Library to PHP 7 (see screen below)? The project results from a previous eclipse version which has been imported to Oxygen. On my machine no PHP is installed, I use Xdebug with a Linux VM, the workspace is on a samba share on that VM (runs PHP 7.0 on Apache).
In the preferences I can add PHP paths, but I have no access to the PHP directory on the Linux VM. But when I create a new PHP project in eclipse, I can select a PHP version (including 7.0).
I wonder if it is the only chance to create a new PHP 7.0 project and copy my files over, or is there a way to alter the PHP 5.6 to PHP 7.0?
Edit: based on howlger's answer
Yes, PHP validation solves it.
I was looking under Validation where is no such thing
Right-click on the project folder and choose Properties
In the properties dialog, in PHP > Validation
Enable project specific settings
As PHP Version choose
7.0 (uniform variable syntax, scalar type hint,...) or
7.1 (void return types, class constant visibility,...)
You also might configure installed PHPs: Window > Properties: PHP > Installed PHPs

I have the latest version of MAMP installed but i want it to run PHP version 5.4.
That version is included in the MAMP file dir. It is located…
-> bin/php/php5.4.42
but in the preferences pane there are only 2 PHP version options: 5.6.10 and 7
I want to do this a part of troubleshooting. i have a Drupal install and am getting the dreaded ‘White Screen of Death’. I’m trying anything and everything to get it working!
MAMP lets you choose from the last two versions of PHP installed in bin/php. If you want to use 5.4.42, just leave this folder and another one of your choice inside this directory (move the others somewhere else so you have a copy, just in case). When you restart MAMP you'll be able to choose your preferred PHP version in the Preferences.
You can download more versions at https://www.mamp.info/en/downloads/
The easier way is to use other localwebserver called Ampps, and after installing it you can choose the version you want by the simple interface it provide.
You click on PHP ==> Change PHP version, and it will show you versions from 5.3 to 7.0.
Here is the link: http://www.ampps.com/
Thanks a lot.
I am trying to setup Symfony2 with PHPStorm 7.1.3 using these instructions but I am running into an error when i execute php app/console server:run.
The error I see is
[InvalidArgumentException]
There are no commands defined in the "server" namespace.
This is what my development machine has
WAMP: 2.5
PHP : 5.5.12
OS : Windows 7
So after getting this error I went to google to do some search and saw many people who had similar problem were using PHP 5.3 and the command line was built for PHP5.4 on wards. I then installed a new version of WAMP which came with PHP 5.5.12 assuming and hoping the error to go away and let me move on to development but then I got the same error again. Now something tells me may be I did not configure something right so I went to see the PHP settings and all seems fine to me.
I am not sure what else to do to get it to work, I will really appreciate if anyone can guide me in setting up Symfony2 with PHPStorm.
UPDATE:
I ran a command php -v to double the php version and it says PHP 5.3.13
You are clearly using Terminal and not Command Line Tools (CLT). The manual you are referring to was made for older version where terminal was not yet available and it refers to CLT (which you are NOT using).
Since you are using Terminal, make sure that your system-wide PHP is actually v5.5. You can verify this by executing php -v command.
Terminal and "Command Line Tool Support" plugin are two different things. First is the same as your real console/terminal (e.g. cmd.exe on Windows) .. while second is some custom emulator (don't know better word/term) which can use PHP Interpreter from PhpStorm settings if configured accordingly (as per manual).
If you want to use Command Line Tools:
It is located at Tools | Run Command... .
Make sure that you have created php alias (as per that manual) so it refers to currently select PHP Interpreter from IDE settings. Otherwise php command may fail. Aliases can be configured at Settings | Command Line Tool Support.
If you want to use Terminal:
You have 2 choices here:
Use FULL path to correct php.exe instead of just php
Make php v5.5 default system-wide. For this you have to:
Alter your PATH environment variable (My Computer | Right click | Properties | Advanced System Settings | Advanced | Environment variables...) and place folder where correct PHP 5.5 is located in front of the list
Restart IDE (most likely will be required) so it picks up these changes to environment variables.
I have installed trial version of PhpStorm 7 on my Windows 7 64 bit.
Php Storm is installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\JetBrains\PhpStorm 7.0\bin\PhpStorm.exe" and my Xampp server in in E:\xampp.
I go to set php interpreter but PhpStorm don't find it.
I opened phpinterpreter windows and choose directory E:\xampp\php but I receive more error like this
Php Startup: Unable to load dynamic lybrary "\xampp\php\ext\php_xxxxxx.dll"......
It seems that PhpStorm 7 trunks the path excluding the disc and cannot find the installation of php over xampp directory.
I forced write correct value in C:\Users\currentuser\.WebIde70\config\options\php.xml , but I have same result
P
hp version: Not installed
Debugger: Not installed
but I have both installed and running.
What should I do to correct the problem?
Thanks very much
This worked for me, however I'm in PhpStorm 8 and the layout is entirely different. I'll still pop this here in case someone else needs these instructions.
Install your prefered PHP from here: http://windows.php.net/ (It doesn't need to be in your PATH, just pop it anywhere)
In PhpStorm, go to File -> Settings
In settings go to Languages & Frameworks -> PHP
Click the ellipsis next to Interpretter (this opens a new window)
Click the plus button in the top left and choose "Other Local"
Set the PHP exectuable to wherever you put your download above. It just needs to see php.exe
That's it. I've been using that to run Composer from PhpStorm... though I'm not convinced by the results.
As an alternative I would highly recommend using Vagrant for your PHP needs. You don't need PHP in Windows at all, and I've been developing this way for about 2 years. PhpStorm's remote support (including Vagrant, SSH and Remote Interpreter) is now excellent. I think the only thing I've been irritated by is PHPUnit Code Coverage is still broken.
