I'm trying to execute a php script via command line on my synology NAS. Via web browser it's working fine. However, via CLI I'm getting an error although I loaded the extensions in /etc/php/php.ini.
Fatal error: Uncaught PDOException: could not find driver in /volume1/web/blabla.php:16
Any ideas?
Synology uses two different php intallations. One for the internal issues (like administrator panel) and the other from the package you've installed for the web server.
you can observe the differences running from command line:
php --ini
php56 --ini
php7 --ini
(depending of the php package installed)
use php56 or php7 to run your script
Update
Please use the following for more recent versions of PHP (assuming both are installed)
php72 --ini
php74 --ini
I was in the same boat–trying to get PHP 7.0 to work on the command-line of my Synology DiskStation DS218+.
I typed php70 --ini and I found out that PHP was using an INI file located at /usr/local/etc/php70/php.ini.
I went to the directory
cd /usr/local/etc/php70/
Made a backup of the .ini file just incase.
sudo cp php.ini php.ini.bak
Opened vi.
sudo vi php.ini
Hit i to enter Insert mode. I changed from this:
extension_dir = "/usr/local/lib/php70/modules"
to this:
extension_dir = "/volume1/#appstore/PHP7.0/usr/local/lib/php70/modules"
I also added this line:
extension = pdo_mysql.so
I then hit Esc, followed by : then wq and . This leaves insert mode, writes the .ini to disk, and quits.
That's it! After that, I was able to run command-line scripts by invoking php70 followed by the script name.
Just make sure to use the correct PHP version and PHP.ini. You can find the location of your php.ini by typing "php --ini". You can also do that on the executables php56/php70. They all have separate php.ini files. Additionaly make sure to load the correct extension directory in the applicable php.ini file.
for me (DSM 6.1.6-15266 Update 1) the following helped:
Add the following lines to /usr/local/etc/php70/php.ini
extension = pdo_mysql.so
extension = openssl.so
I struggled very long to get the correct values, finally I found them by comparing to the config files of the php56 instance.
Did you try: php56 path/to/script.php or php70 path/to/script.php ?
If I'm not wrong, /etc/php/php.ini is for DSM engine...
For symfony, I use php56 bin/console command. php or php70 doesn't work for me (DSM 6.1.3 on DS415+)
Hope it helps !

So macOS High Sierra 10.13 now comes with PHP 7.1. While configuring Apache I also created a new /etc/php.ini from the /etc/php.ini.default file, made sure to check that is was being loaded by PHP after restarting Apache, however the version of Xdebug extension that ships with macOS 10.13 doesn't seem to load or show up when you run phpinfo();
My php.ini is definitely being loaded:
$ php -i | grep php.ini
Configuration File (php.ini) Path => /etc
Loaded Configuration File => /etc/php.ini
Here's what my /etc/php.ini looks like where I configure Xdebug:
[xdebug]
zend_extension = "/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20160303/xdebug.so"
xdebug.remote_enable=on
xdebug.remote_log="/var/log/xdebug.log"
xdebug.remote_host=localhost
xdebug.remote_handler=dbgp
xdebug.remote_port=9000
[Update, fixed that typo here...]
However, Xdebug doesn't load and checking php -i give no results:
$php -i | grep xdebug
PHP Warning: Method xdebug_start_function_monitor() cannot be a NULL
function in Unknown on line 0
PHP Warning: xdebug: Unable to register functions, unable to load in Unknown on line 0
Segmentation fault: 11
And yes, the path to the file is correct:
$ ls /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20160303/xdebug.so
/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20160303/xdebug.so*
This used to work on PHP 5 so I hope someone can help me and anyone else in future struggling with this issue.
When I check my apache log I get the following error:
Failed loading /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20160303/xdebug.so: dlopen(/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20160303/xdebug.so, 9): Symbol not found: _xdebug_monitored_function_dtor
Referenced from: /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20160303/xdebug.so
Expected in: flat namespace
in /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20160303/xdebug.so
I'm not making progress in terms of find out how I can resolve this error:
Symbol not found: _xdebug_monitored_function_dtor
Ok so I finally got it running myself it works perfectly! I'm assuming that the xdebug binary that comes with macOS High Sierra (found under: /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20160303/xdebug.so) is not compatible with PHP7's new Zend engine.
So I downloaded the latest source from the xdebug website and did the following:
Installed autoconf with brew;
Run phpize to configure the build for the new Zend engine;
Run ./configure
Run make
Now the new binary is under modules/xdebug.so
However macOS System Integrity Protection (SIP) will prevent you from overwriting the xdebug.so under /usr/lib/php/extensions/. I didn't want to disable this so I created a new directory path under /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/ and copied the new binary to this location. I'm not sure if this directory is the best place to put it or if this is bad practice but it worked for me.
Finally I reconfigured my php.ini to use the new binary and everything worked perfectly!
In order to install it you have to have xcode command line tools.
So you need to run:
xcode-select --install
Then you need to install autoconf:
brew install autoconf
Then you have to download the code from here.
After that you have to run in the folder of the source code:
phpize
./configure
make
sudo cp modules/xdebug.so /usr/local/php/extensions (if the directory doesn't exist go and create it)
And finally inside php.ini add
zend_extension=/usr/local/php/extensions/xdebug.so
After that you can enable xdebug inside php.ini and restart apache
sudo apachectl restart
you made a typo in "zend_extention". this should be zend_extension.
and i think the full path is unnecessary
zend_extension=xdebug.so
should be enough
If you have brew installed with multiple PHP versions i.e. 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3 on Mac OS X mojave, you can to do the following:
Install autoconf with brew brew install autoconf.
Change to the PHP version that you want Xdebug on, run brew unlink php#7.1 && brew link --force --overwrite php. This will switch from PHP 7.1 to PHP 7.3.
Download the latest Xdebug source from xdebug website.
Extract the Xdebug tar and navigate to extracted directory, where you'd see all the files.
Run phpize to configure the build for the new Zend engine.
Run ./configure.
Run make.
Xdebug extension xdebug.so gets compiled in modules directory.
Create a new directory path under /usr/local/lib/php/7.3.1/extensions/ and copy xdebug.so to this location. Here, 7.3.1 is the current version that I switched earlier, change this to match your PHP version.
Open php.ini in an editor and enter
zend_extension="/usr/local/lib/php/7.3.1/extensions/xdebug.so" then save the change.
Run php -v and it will show Xdebug has been configured correctly.
If you want to configure Xdebug on another PHP version then just repeat from step 2 all the way to 11. As mentioned in earlier post, this way you don't need to disable/enable System Integrity Protection on Mac OS X.
For anyone arriving late at this party, the initial attempt in the question seems to work just fine in macOS 10.13.6
Hello for everyone that got error trying to install xDebug on Mac.
error: unknown type name 'uint64_t'
There are files in your local/bin/include that causes this error. By removing them you get rid of the error. Though, you might have to reinsatall brew.

I'm using MAMP and ive installed a fresh version of Opencart, its telling me i dont have MCrypt enabled, when i go to terminal and type:
php -m | grep mcrypt
output: mcrypt
I can locate the library but it doesn't seem to be enabled.
That fact that php -m | grep mcrypt returns mcrypt, means the mcrypt library is INSTALLED and ENABLED.
Although it may just be enabled for CLI.
You can try editing the PHP.ini file and adding the following line under the ; Extensions section:
extension=mcrypt.so
Restart Apache / MAMP after saving php.ini file.
To find the correct php.ini file to edit, run the following command line:
php --info | grep php.ini
(If the line already exists, you may just need to remove the ; thats in front of it.)
I have tried so many ways but had no luck.
After a lot of trials finally came up with a solution.
Go to bin directory inside current active PHP version directory. In my case it is /Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php7.2.8/bin
It might be different in your case. Now run the below command with sudo
sudo ./pecl install channel://pecl.php.net/mcrypt-1.0.1
Now You should add extension=mcrypt.so to php.ini
Restart MAMP Service and check if it is working.
I had this issue following upgrading to MAMP 5.1 and using PHP 7.1.20...
The issue I found was not that MAMP PHP did not have mcrypt installed, it certainly does come bundled.
The issue was that the MAMP PHP configuration option "Make this version available on the command line" was NOT working and so the version of PHP I was using on the command line [in my case] was the macOS default PHP 7.1.16 without mcrypt (the version included in macOS by default)
Reverting to the old cli php alias meant the correct MAMP version of PHP was used on the command line
Added to .bash_profile
alias php='/Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php7.1.20/bin/php'
try in console
pecl install mcrypt
Using Brew:
Install mcrypt: brew install mcrypt
In Mamp: File -> Edit Template -> PHP (php.ini)-> {PHP version}
Find 'Dynamic Extensions' in the text and add the following below (after the lines starting with ';'):
extension=mcrypt.so
Save, restart and test (with php -i | grep mcrypt for example)
I am trying to connect to my database (remote server) which has PostgreSQL installed in it. My PHP code is trying to connect to the database using pg_connect(), but I get the error saying:- "Fatal error: Call to undefined function pg_connect() in /var/www/website/functions.php on line 82".
The line 82 simply is:
$db = pg_connect($conn_string);
where $conn_string = "host=".$hostname." port=5432 dbname=".$dbname." user=".$db_user." password=".$db_password.""
(all variables defined earlier)
I checked many forums and the only solution suggested was locating the php.ini file which contains a line:- extension = pgsql.so (for UNIX) and extension = php_pgsql.dll (for Windows).
This statement is supposed to be commented and the solution is to uncomment it. I have tried it but still does not change the situation. The remote server has a version later than PostgreSQL v9.0.4 installed.
I then installed PostgreSQL v8.4.8 on to my laptop and ran the website locally using MAMP. At first, Apache crashed for some odd reason, I fixed that problem but again I ended up with the same error as before i.e. Fatal error: Call to undefined function pg_connect()....
I also ran the phpinfo() and it showed that the php version does support the PostgreSQL module.I have spent an entire day searching for the solution but have been unsuccessful. This is my first project developing a website and I am out of wits. Any kinda help will be highly appreciated.
phpinfo() gives me a huge list of things at the terminal but the listings relevant to PostgreSQL are as follows:-
pdo_pgsql
PDO Driver for PostgreSQL => enabled
PostgreSQL(libpq) Version => 9.0.4
Module version => 1.0.2
Revision => $Id: pdo_pgsql.c 306939 2011-01-01 02:19:59Z felipe $
pgsql
PostgreSQL Support => enabled
PostgreSQL(libpq) Version => 9.0.4
Multibyte character support => enabled
SSL support => enabled
Active Persistent Links => 0
Active Links => 0
Directive => Local Value => Master Value
pgsql.allow_persistent => On => On
pgsql.auto_reset_persistent => Off => Off
pgsql.ignore_notice => Off => Off
pgsql.log_notice => Off => Off
pgsql.max_links => Unlimited => Unlimited
pgsql.max_persistent => Unlimited => Unlimited
I had restarted MAMP after every edit I made since it was mentioned in every post I have read so far. I believe that resets both Apache and php.
'pqsql.so' (which is the UNIX equivalent of 'php_pqsql.dll' in Windows) is present in the 'extension' directory. I also copy-pasted the 'pqsql.so' file on to the Apache/bin directory but it did not give me any change.
I am not running php in the command line primarily. I just was curious to see what phpinfo() would give me relevant to pgsql which I have mentioned in my reply above.
I am still working on the tools you have mentioned and will respond as soon as I get any results.
Thanks,
H
You need to install the php-pgsql package or whatever it's called for your platform. Which I don't think you said by the way.
On Ubuntu and Debian:
sudo apt-get install php-pgsql
Easy install for ubuntu:
Just run:
sudo apt-get install php5-pgsql
then
sudo service apache2 restart //restart apache
or
Uncomment the following in php.ini by removing the ;
;extension=php_pgsql.dll
then restart apache
Fatal error: Call to undefined function pg_connect()...
I had this error when I was installing Lampp or xampp in Archlinux,
The solution was edit the php.ini, it is located in /opt/lampp/etc/php.ini
then find this line and uncomment
extension="pgsql.so"
then restart the server apache with xampp and test...
Edit. I just noticed you were mentionning MAMP. My advice is for Windows but may be useful if you know what corresponding tools to use.
Things to try:
Have you restarted PHP and Apache since your editing of php.ini?
Is the php_pgsql.dll found in your php\ext directory?
Are you running php as a module? If so, try copying the php_pgsql.dll
file in the Apache\bin directory.
Are you running PHP from the command line with a flag specifying a
different php.ini file?
You could try using a tool such as Sysinternals' Filemon to view what
files are attempting to be accessed when running PHP.
You could try using a tool such as Dependency Walker to look at the dependencies for the postgreSQL DLL, in case you have a missing dependency. Quick search brought up ldd for Unix.
Add 'PHPIniDir "C:/php"' into the httpd.conf file.(provided
you have your PHP saved in C:, or else give the location where PHP
is saved.)
Uncomment following 'extension=php_pgsql.dll' in
php.ini file
Uncomment ';extension_dir = "ext"' in php.ini
directory
I had the same symptom in win7. I got this script:
<?php
phpinfo();
pg_connect("blah");
When I executed the phpinfo.php script via apache (http://localhost/phpinfo.php) then I got the error message:
Call to undefined function pg_connect() in...
When I executed the same script from command line (php phpinfo.php) then I got the expected message:
PHP Warning: pg_connect(): Unable to connect to PostgreSQL server: missing "=" after "blah"
In both cases the expected php.ini was used:
Loaded Configuration File C:\Program Files (x86)\php\php.ini
but the pgsql section was completely missing from the phpinfo in case of the apache-based execution and it was present in the command-line-based execution.
The solution was that I added the following line to the apache httpd.conf:
LoadFile "C:/Program Files (x86)/php/libpq.dll"
It seems that for some reason this file is not loaded automatically when apache runs the php script but it is loaded if I run the php script from the command line.
I hope it helps.
You have to follow these steps:
Open the php configuration file, which is located in the following directory
C: \ xampp \ php \ php.ini
Within that file search the extension section and uncomment the following lines
extension = php_pdo_pgsql.dll
extension = php_pgsql.dll
and restart your apache
I also had this problem on OSX. The solution was uncommenting the extension = pgsql.so in php.ini.default and deleting the .default suffix, since the file php.ini was not there.
If you are using XAMPP, the php.ini file resides in /XAMPP/xampfiles/etc
install the package needed.
if you use yum:
yum search pgsql
then look at the result and find anything that is something like 'php-pgsql' or something like that. copy the name and then:
yum install *paste the name of the package here*
For php 5.4 on Centos 6.10, we include these lines in php.ini
extension=/opt/remi/php54/root/usr/lib64/php/modules/pdo.so
extension=/opt/remi/php54/root/usr/lib64/php/modules/pgsql.so
extension=/opt/remi/php54/root/usr/lib64/php/modules/pdo_pgsql.so
It works.
I encountered this error and it ended up being related to how PHP's extension_dir was loading.
If upon printing out phpinfo() you find that under the PDO header PDO drivers is set to no value, you may want to check that you are successfully loading your extension directory as detailed in this post:
https://stackoverflow.com/a/14786808/2578505
On Gentoo, use USE flag postgres in /etc/portage/make.conf and re emerge "emerge php"
Uncommenting extension=php_pgsql.dll in the php.ini configuration files does work but, you may have to also restart your XAMPP server to finally get it working. I had to do this.
The solution has to do with the fact that your the file holding your php configurations. i.e php.ini has uncommented the extension responsible for acting as the middleman between php and postgres, by placing a ";" in front of the statement "extension=pdo_pgsql"
Quick Fix
Open the php.ini file in your favourite editor. (atom 🙌)
Search for the line "extension=pdo_pgsql", which is under the "Dynamic Extensions" section. (a simple ctrl + f) would get you there quick.
Remove the ";" in front of the line ";extension=pdo_pgsql".
Restart your server.
Go fix more errors like a rock star. 👍
If you got php5.6 using the ppa repository http://ppa.launchpad.net/ondrej/php/ubuntu,
then you should install the package using:
sudo apt install php5.6-pgsql
Finally, if you use apache2, restart it:
sudo service apache2 restart
For those of you who have this problem with PHP 5.6, you can use the following command:
yum install php56w-pgsql
For a list of more package names for PHP 5.6, open the following link and scroll down to packages:
PHP 5.6 on CentOS/RHEL 7.0 and 6.6 via Yum
In windows OS find this in php.ini "php_pgsql.dll" and remove the ";" in the extension then that's it :) Cheeers!
I am starting with Symfony2 I try to install the bundle (fosuserbundle) and when I execute the command (php composer.phar update) the console shows me this message:
you must enable the openssl extension to download files via https
Symfony2
I enabled the openssl in php extentions; eliminate (;) before the php_openssl in fichers php.ini, php.ini-development and php.ini-production ... I do all and the same message (I'm really tired of searching)
I use WampServer Version 2.4
You may want to check out this Enabling OpenSSL in WAMP
What version of WAMP are you running? Have you run <?php phpinfo(); ?> and looked for openssl on the page?
Edit haha long day, thanks RiggsFolly.
In WAMPServer there are 2 php.ini files.
One in the \wamp\bin\apache\apache2.2.x\bin folder which is used when you run PHP on your website ( that the file that is edited when you use the wampmanager menus to edit php.ini) and one in the \wamp\bin\php\php5.x.y folder.
When you are running PHP CLI ( Command Line Interface ) as you are when you execute php from the command line, the the php.exe file uses the ini file locatied in \wamp\bin\php\php5.x.y\php.ini. You have to edit this file manually, it is not accessible from the wampmanager menu system.
So edit \wamp\bin\php\php5.x.y\php.ini and in that file remove the comment ; from the php_openssl.dll line, and any other extensions that you may be using when you run php in CLI mode.
I have created one simple PHP Extension using the following link:
Sample Hello World PHP extension on Ubuntu
I have created a PHP Extension successfully as hello.so.
I have used XAMPP package, in this I have moved this hello.so to /opt/lampp/modules/
and I have included the line:
extension=hello.so in /opt/lampp/etc/**php.ini**
Eventhough, If I called the function from command prompt like:
$ php -r ‘hello_world();’
even I am getting the error as Function undefined.
First test your php.ini file whether the extension include successfully or not.For checking call phpinfo() function.
If it is there then
php -r 'echo hello_world();'
run this on command prompt.I think your missing echo while firing command.You have use echo because it return something.
Note: restart your apache service after extension inclusion.
sudo service apache2 restart
To build the PHP extension, after creating a C file in Linux`, you have to run the following commands:
$ phpize
$ ./configure --enable-hello
$ make
And do not forget to run:
$ sudo make install
If you run this command, by default your newly created extension module (.so) will be moved to the default dynamic extension path (the path will be displayed after running that command)
Then mention this dynamic extension path in the PHP.INI file in the dynamic_extension directory section and include your .so file in the Dynamic Extension section.
Then restart the Apache server and definitely this will work fine.
