Convert CURL command to PHP for use with Laravel - php

How do I convert the curl command below to PHP used with Laravel?
curl -X POST -F "images_file=#fruitbowl.jpg" "https://gateway-a.watsonplatform.net/visual-recognition/api/v3/classify?api_key=xxxxa12345&version=2016-05-20"

There is a function to upload file with curl php:
function uploadFileWithCURL($fullFilePath, $targetURL)
{
if (function_exists('curl_file_create')) {
$curlFile = curl_file_create($fullFilePath);
} else {
$curlFile = '#' . realpath($fullFilePath);
}
$post = array('file_contents' => $curlFile);
$ch = curl_init();
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $targetURL);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $post);
$result = curl_exec($ch);
curl_close($ch);
return $result;
}
Usage:
$result = uploadFileWithCURL('path/to/your/fruitbowl.jpg','https://gateway-a.watsonplatform.net/visual-recognition/api/v3/classify?api_key=xxxxa12345&version=2016-05-20');

have a look at this package, this is a super easy curl wrapper for laravel
https://github.com/ixudra/curl
so it would look like
use Ixudra\Curl\Facades\Curl;
$response = Curl::to('https://gateway-a.watsonplatform.net/visual-recognition/api/v3/classify?api_key=xxxxa12345&version=2016-05-20')
->withContentType('multipart/form-data')
->withData(['images_file' => file_get_contents("yourfile")])
->containsFile()
->post();

Use the Http facade and call the attach method, this method accepts the name of the file and its contents
use Illuminate\Support\Facades\Http;
$response = Http::attach(
'images_file', '/home/user/fruitbowl.jpg', 'fruitbowl.jpg'
)->post('https://gateway-a.watsonplatform.net/visual-recognition/api/v3/classify?api_key=xxxxa12345&version=2016-05-20'
)->json();

PHP Curl Post and Get Response

This code send a file to the URL and get the response below.
{
"countedFiles": [
{
"wordsNumber": 340,
"charsNumber": 2908,
"charsNoSpacesNumber": 2506,
"wordsNumberNN": 312,
"charsNumberNN": 2755,
"charsNoSpacesNumberNN": 2353,
"md5": null,
"fileName": "textomate-api.pdf",
"error": null
}
],
"total": {
"wordsNumber": 340,
"charsNumber": 2908,
"charsNoSpacesNumber": 2506,
"wordsNumberNN": 312,
"charsNumberNN": 2755,
"charsNoSpacesNumberNN": 2353,
"md5": null
}
}
And I want to post a file via PHP and get this response or only value of "charsNoSpacesNumber".
Could you please help me with this?
Thanks a lot
You can do it as follows:
YET be sure to first check their T&C as I am not sure if they provide such a service for free.
Also be sure to include some error / exceptions handling.
<?php
//Initialise the cURL var
$ch = curl_init();
//Get the response from cURL
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
//Set the Url
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, 'https://textomate.com/a/uploadMultiple');
$path = '/path/to/your/file.pdf';
$file = curl_file_create($path, 'application/pdf', 'file');
//Create a POST array with the file in it
$postData = array(
'file' => $file,
);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $postData);
// Execute the request, decode the json into array
$response = json_decode(curl_exec($ch), true);
var_dump($response['total']['charsNoSpacesNumber']);
Thanks for your support Bartosz.
This is my code and I also shared an image of the code and results.
I hope there are enough information.
<?php
if(is_callable('curl_init')){
echo "curl is active";
} else {
echo "curl is passive";
}
//Initialise the cURL var
$ch = curl_init();
//Get the response from cURL
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
//Set the Url
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, 'https://textomate.com/a/uploadMultiple');
$path = 'textomate-api.pdf';
$file = curl_file_create($path, 'application/pdf', 'file');
//Create a POST array with the file in it
$postData = array(
'file' => $file,
);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $postData);
// Execute the request, decode the json into array
$response = json_decode(curl_exec($ch), true);
var_dump($response['total']['charsNoSpacesNumber']);
var_dump($response);
var_dump(file_exists($path));
?>
Updated code is below and you can see the results in the image.
I want to use this API on my website to be able to calculate character count of documents. I am using Wordpress and API provider gives us 3 options, Java, PHP (Wordpress) and Shell. They have something for Wordpress but I don't know how to use it.
You can reach all the files from here.
https://github.com/zentaly/textomate-api
If you take a look there, you can get more information and maybe you can find me a better solution.
And again thank you so much for your support, I appreciate it.
<?php
if(is_callable('curl_init')){
echo "curl is active";
} else {
echo "curl is passive";
}
//Initialise the cURL var
$ch = curl_init();
//Get the response from cURL
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
//Set the Url
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, 'https://textomate.com/a/uploadMultiple');
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_VERBOSE, 2);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, 0);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
curl_exec: var_dump(curl_errno($ch));
var_dump(curl_error($ch));
$path = 'textomate-api.pdf';
$file = curl_file_create($path, 'application/pdf', 'file');
//Create a POST array with the file in it
$postData = array(
'file' => $file,
);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $postData);
// Execute the request, decode the json into array
$response = curl_exec($ch);
var_dump($response);
$response = json_decode($ch);
var_dump($response['total']['charsNoSpacesNumber']);
var_dump($response);
var_dump(file_exists($path));
var_dump($file);

Github api request with php curl

I am trying to get the latest commit from github using the api, but I encounter some errors and not sure what the problem is with the curl requests. The CURLINFO_HTTP_CODE gives me 000.
What does it mean if I got 000 and why is it not getting the contents of the url?
function get_json($url){
$base = "https://api.github.com";
$curl = curl_init();
curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_URL, $base . $url);
curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, false);
//curl_setopt($curl, CONNECTTIMEOUT, 1);
$content = curl_exec($curl);
echo $http_status = curl_getinfo($curl, CURLINFO_HTTP_CODE);
curl_close($curl);
return $content;
}
echo get_json("users/$user/repos");
function get_latest_repo($user) {
// Get the json from github for the repos
$json = json_decode(get_json("users/$user/repos"),true);
print_r($json);
// Sort the array returend by pushed_at time
function compare_pushed_at($b, $a){
return strnatcmp($a['pushed_at'], $b['pushed_at']);
}
usort($json, 'compare_pushed_at');
//Now just get the latest repo
$json = $json[0];
return $json;
}
function get_commits($repo, $user){
// Get the name of the repo that we'll use in the request url
$repoName = $repo["name"];
return json_decode(get_json("repos/$user/$repoName/commits"),true);
}
I use your code and it will work if you add an user agent on curl
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_USERAGENT,'YOUR_INVENTED_APP_NAME');

replace php function 'file' using curl

how to replace php function 'file' using curl?
$ego_quote = file($egoUrl); nicely put into an array.
$ego_quote[0] = error=OK
$ego_quote[1] = eta=Overnight
$ego_quote[2] = price=56.44
how can i achieve this when i'm using CURL?
Reason, function 'fopen' which is related to function 'file' not available on our production server.
Thank you
Thanks to Crayon Violent in this post.
$ego_quote = explode("\n",$ego_quote);
Which will give you the same result as function file
$ego_quote[0] = error=OK
$ego_quote[1] = eta=Overnight
$ego_quote[2] = price=56.44
You could do something like this:
$ch = curl_init();
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $egoUrl);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
$output = curl_exec($ch);
curl_close($ch);
echo $output;

Alternative for HTTPRequest in php

I am using the HttpRequest class in my php script, but when I uploaded this script to my hosting provider's server, I get a fatal error when executing it:
Fatal error: Class 'HttpRequest' not found in ... on line 87
I believe the reason is because my hosting provider's php.ini configuration doesnt include the extension that supports HttpRequest. When i contacted them they said that we cannot install the following extentions on shared hosting.
So i want the alternative for httpRequest which i make like this:
$url= http://ip:8080/folder/SuspendSubscriber?subscriberId=5
$data_string="";
$request = new HTTPRequest($url, HTTP_METH_POST);
$request->setRawPostData($data_string);
$request->send();
$response = $request->getResponseBody();
$response= json_decode($response, true);
return $response;
Or How can i use this request in curl as it is not working for empty datastring?
You can use CURL in php like this:
$ch = curl_init( $url );
$data_string = " ";
curl_setopt( $ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $data_string );
curl_setopt( $ch, CURLOPT_HTTPHEADER, array('Content-Type:application/json'));
curl_setopt( $ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true );
$result = curl_exec($ch);
curl_close($ch);
return $result;
and empty data string doesn't make sense in post request, but i've checked it with empty data string and it works quiet well.
you can use a framework like zend do this. framework usually have multiple adapters (curl,socket,proxy).
here is a sample with ZF2:
$request = new \Zend\Http\Request();
$request->setUri('[url]');
$request->setMethod(\Zend\Http\Request::METHOD_POST);
$request->getPost()->set('key', $value);
$client = new \Zend\Http\Client();
$client->setEncType('application/x-www-form-urlencoded');
$response = false;
try {
/* #var $response \Zend\Http\Response */
$response = $client->dispatch($request);
} catch (Exception $e) {
//handle error
}
if ($response && $response->isSuccess()) {
$result = $response->getBody();
} else {
$error = $response->getBody();
}
you don't have to use the entire framework just include (or autoload) the classes that you need.
Use the cURL in php
<?php
// A very simple PHP example that sends a HTTP POST to a remote site
$ch = curl_init();
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL,"http://example.com/feed.rss");
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS,"postvar1=value1&postvar2=value2");
// in real life you should use something like:
// curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS,
// http_build_query(array('postvar1' => 'value1')));
// receive server response ...
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true);
$server_output = curl_exec ($ch);
curl_close ($ch);
// further processing ....
if ($server_output == "OK") { ... } else { ... }
?>

a slight variaton on the curl methods proposed, i decode the json that is returned, like in this snippet

Use curl in php script

I'm trying to create a script that will delete all user properties for a particular individual. I'm able to use an api call to get the users' properties. And I'm trying use a delete api to remove each property. But I'm having an issue doing so. Below is the code:
$delete = "http://www.ourwiki.com/#api/DELETE:users/$user_id/properties/%s";
$xml = new SimpleXMLElement($xmlString);
foreach($xml->property as $property) {
$name = $property['name']; // the name is stored in the attribute
file_get_contents(sprintf($delete, $name));
}
I believe I need to use curl to perform the actual delete. Here is an example of that command (property=something):
curl -u username:password -X DELETE -i http://ourwiki.com/#api/users/=john_smith#ourwiki.com/properties/something
-u Provides external user authentication.
-X Specifies the HTTP request method.
-i Outputs the HTTP response headers. Useful for debugging.
Is this something that I can incorporate right into the existing script? Or is there something else I need to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
update:
<?php
$user_id="john_smith#ourwiki.com";
$url=('http://aaron:12345#192.168.245.133/#api/deki/users/=john_smith#ourwiki.com/properties');
$xmlString=file_get_contents($url);
$delete = "http://aaron:12345#192.168.245.133/#api/deki/DELETE:users/$user_id/properties/%s";
$xml = new SimpleXMLElement($xmlString);
function curl_fetch($url,$username,$password,$method='DELETE')
{
$ch = curl_init();
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_CUSTOMREQUEST, $method);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, TRUE); // returns output as a string instead of echoing it
curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_USERPWD,"$username:$password"); // if your server requires basic auth do this
return curl_exec($ch);
}
foreach($xml->property as $property) {
$name = $property['name']; // the name is stored in the attribute
curl_fetch(sprintf($delete, $name),'aaron','12345');
}
?>
You can use php curl, or shell out to curl using exec.
If curl is already enabled on you web server, go with php curl. If you cant install php-curl copy a command line version of curl and you are good to go.
In php-curl to set the delete method do:
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_CUSTOMREQUEST, 'DELETE');
edit
Something like this:
$ch = curl_init();
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, "http://www.ourwiki.com/#api/whatever/url/you/want/or/need");
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_CUSTOMREQUEST, 'DELETE');
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, TRUE); // returns output as a string instead of echoing it
curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_USERPWD,"$username:$password"); // if your server requires basic auth do this
$output = curl_exec($ch);
edit2
stick that above code in a function:
function curl_fetch($url,$username,$password,$method='DELETE')
{
$ch = curl_init();
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_CUSTOMREQUEST, $method);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, TRUE); // returns output as a string instead of echoing it
curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_USERPWD,"$username:$password"); // if your server requires basic auth do this
return curl_exec($ch);
}
and replace the call to file_get_contents() in your script with the new function.
curl_fetch(sprintf($delete, $name),'aaron','12345');
Done.
looks like you are looking for the curl function calls in php, including curl_setopt
