echo <script> itself in php - php

hello every body i had a problem with echo in php that might be very simple but i'm a bit new in php.
i had a code like this:
<?php echo '<script>var str=Array(1);str.push('.$user_id.')</script>';?>
in this code i want to display script text instead of calling java script. what shall i do?
i have already tried every kind of writing types such as single quotes and double quotes like below
<?php echo '"<script>"var str=Array(1);str.push('.$user_id.')"</script>"';?>
even tried \ at the beginning and end of script but none of them worked.


You need to use htmlspecialchars() function to escape html tags.
<?php echo htmlspecialchars('<script>var str=Array(1);str.push('.$user_id.')</script>');?>

You need to add slashes before onclick's two double quotes and move your single quote to the right side of .php.

How do I make Text Editor display an apostrophe instead of a single quote?

I can't parse properly using Text Editor because it interprets the apostrophe key on my keyboard as a single quote (‘ - slanted). PHP requires an apostrophe (' - straight). When I press this key anywhere else (browser, etc. it displays as an apostrophe.
Works - <?php echo '<p>Hello World</p>'; ?>
Doesn't work - <?php echo ‘<p>Hello World</p>’; ?>

It sounds like you have TextEdit in rich text mode. This will only cause you horrible pain trying to write code.
You can use Shift+Cmd+T, or the menu item Format -> Make Plain Text if you're editing code.
There are better choices for code editors on OSX though, like TextWrangler, which is free.

You won't change PHP syntax unless you wan't to write your own interpreter :P
If you want to display for user an apostrophe you need to escape it with \'
Moreover, you can echo string also with double quote so:
<?php echo '<p>Hello World</p>'; ?>
<?php echo '<p>\'Hello World\'</p>'; ?>
<?php echo "<p>Hello World</p>"; ?>
will work.

Try changing the font to Arial, I just checked and it appears to use the apostrophe instead of the single quote, when I copied and pasted the example it recognized both characters

(PHP+HTML) Codes inside PHP

I have some coding which has both PHP & HTML tags... it is a very big coding... now i want to add these coding inside PHP tag... i tried using "echo" statement and adding quotes, concatenation... it doesnt work and showing some error
here is a sample line..

the above line has lots of quotes, html and php... i have lots of lines like this...

"adding quotes, concatenation" That's what you need, but it's kind of error-prone to reformat long lines:

This is just a suggestion so that no matter how long your html codes just a simple include will simply insert it to your php file.
Put you html codes in a different file
Then just include it in your php file.

Assuming you want to print that chunk of code, you failed to escape the quotes and the special characters ( <, >, & and so on).

Using innerhtml to write html with A LOT of quotes

I'm trying to call a function which writes a very long string of html to an element. The string will look similar to this;

Don't worry about disecting that as it's just an example of what can be sent. I'm assuming the problem is the multitude of quotes inside this string, as the javascript on the page entirely stops working when I include this function.
The above string is actually generated in a php loops, and the function I'm trying to use calls attempts

Which works correctly when its in the main page body, but won't run when using the innerHTML method.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how this could work?

Use json_encode rather than wrapping the text in single quotes yourself:

When you pass a string into json_encode, it will get wrapped in quotes and any quotes and other special characters within it will get correctly encoded for use as a JavaScript literal string. (This is a by-product of the fact that JSON is a subset of JavaScript's literal syntax.)
(I've also added an echo there; I'm not much of a PHP-head, so remove it if it's not needed, but you're not using short-tags, so...)

Escape the single quotes in the PHP output! :)
Replace the ' with \'

Obviously you need to ensure you are escaping quotes within strings or the Javascript will break. A simple solution would be to use double-quotes inside the string, and use single-quotes to delimit the string.

What is the right way to create tabs and line breaks in PHP when using single quotes?

Seems like a simple question, but I haven't been able to find a solid answer anywhere. I'm outputting a ton of HTML and find escaping "s to be error prone and hard to read, but I also want to have my HTML formatted nicely.
Want something like this (though I know this won't worK):
echo '<div id="test">\n';
echo '\t<div id="test-sub">\n';
echo '\t</div>\n';
echo '</div>\n';

did you look on HEREDOC
Heredoc text behaves just like a
double-quoted string, without the
double quotes. This means that quotes
in a heredoc do not need to be escaped

There are a lot of ways to make sure, this works just fine for example (PHP_EOL is a cross Platt form Constant for a new line Char (EndOfLine) ):
echo "<div id=\"test\">".PHP_EOL;
echo "\t<div id=\"test-sub\">".PHP_EOL;
echo "\t</div>".PHP_EOL;
echo "</div>".PHP_EOL;

To get what you want, I would end up writing something like
$mypage = page::blank();
$mypage->opennode('div', 'id="test"');
$mypage->opennode('div', 'id="test-sub"');
$mypage->closenode(2); // div, div
echo $mypage->build_output_strict();
Another alternative would be to use a full-fledged template engine, of which there are quite a few.

use double quotes
or a multi-line echo string:
