CSS wont trigger in live production with CodeIgniter framework - php

I'm having an issue with my project. It has no errors and something but when I tried to upload it on some free hosting sites The CSS wont trigger. This is my first time uploading my project so guys this the url grandluis.epizy.com/grand/ or https://grandluis.000webhostapp.com and my directory was like this.
/htdocs-
-------/grand-
-------------/application-
-------------/assets-
-------------/system-
-------------.editorconfig
-------------.htaccess
-------------.composer.json
-------------.contributing.md
-------files for your website should be uploaded here-
-------index2.html-
.hraccess-
.override-
DO NOT UPLOAD FILES HERE-
and I notice something that if you click a url button on the website the css will trigger. I think the CSS only wont trigger if you typed the URL manually.

grandluis.000webhostapp.com - your css are loaded in http while you're accessing your website through https
You have to update your config.php to:
$config['base_url'] = 'https://grandluis.000webhostapp.com';
Also, if you're not doing it yet, use base_url when loading assets.Example:
<link href="<?=base_url('path/to/your/style.css');?>" rel="stylesheet" />

PHP define() function as URL

I'm developing a website for my conclusion work at school. I'm using XAMPP v3.2.1. to localhost the site.
My site's folder's are configured just like this in htdocs folder:
ibnm
css
js
img
...
site
about
midia
...
includes.php
index.php (HOME PAGE)
My problem starts here: on index.php I'm including includes.php, that's a simple file with define() functions to the folders of my site so I can print the constant on the HTML tags of the site as URL (just like below)
//includes.php
<?php
define("css", "localhost/ibnm/css");
?>
//index.php
<?php
include_once("includes.php");
?>
<link href="<?= css; ?>/bootstrap.css" rel="stylesheet">
But when I do this, the CSS don't function. When I see an <a> tag with the previously defined URL on page it looks like
localhost/ibnm/site/localhost/ibnm/css
instead of
localhost/ibnm/css
It's confunsing 'cause if the <a> tag doesn't have any value (href="") it output localhost/ibnm/site/.
What can be wrong? XAMPP or coding?
Any url is not starts with http then browser will assume that its relative path so it will append to your current path, thats why your getting localhost/ibnm/site/localhost/ibnm/css.
And one small correction in your code, its not good idea to hard code server name in the code, better to get server name dynamically. So that you no need to change while deploying your site in real server.
//includes.php
<?php
define("css", $host='http://'.$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'].'/ibnm/css');
?>
This is because the browser think localhost is a folder, and then do this ontop of the current path, to fix is just add http:// before the localhost
define("css", "http://localhost/ibnm/css");
Instead of using absolute path you can just add one slash before CSS path -
<link href="/<?= css; ?>/bootstrap.css" rel="stylesheet">

Codeigniter not displaying stylsheet when clicking on links

I just built a sit in Codeigniter, but when I click on a menu item the stylesheet breaks and it displays all of the content broken out on the page.
http://marciabrownproductions.com/
I uploaded it to a test server and all the links works perfectly.But when I uploaded the finished site ot my clients server the css issue starts. Is there something wrong with my clients server? Or is there a problem with how I coded the site? Why does it work on one server, but not the other.
Thanks!
First, I recommend using absolute paths instead of relative paths when referencing your assets. At the moment, they are being picked up with the index.php included.
So, let's say your link is http://domain.tld/index.php/home/actors, you should be calling your assets from their actual URLs - http://domain.tld/index.php/_/css/style.css would not work, for example. http://domain.tld/_/css/style.css, however, would work. (That's just a sample URL.)
I'd also recommend removing the index.php from your links, simply by using the htaccess RewriteEngine, and removing index.php from your app's config file.
Have a look at how your current source is being generated in a browser (right-click, View Source) to see what I mean.
Update:
Based on your comment, that may be an htaccess issue. Check to see if your hosting provider supports it.
In the meantime, put the index.php back in the app's main config file. However, leave your CSS asset link as it is. Make sure all your asset links look like this:
<link href="http://marciabrownproductions.com/_/css/styles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<script type='text/javascript' src='http://marciabrownproductions.com/_/js/jquery.validate.js'></script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='http://marciabrownproductions.com/_/js/effects.js'></script>
<link href="http://marciabrownproductions.com/_/css/bjqs.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" />
<script src="http://marciabrownproductions.com/_/js/bjqs-1.3.js"></script>
Your images are broken because their links are also including the index.php/home. You need to make sure that that is taken out. (What are you using to generate your links anyway?)

Codeigniter URL index.php twice

Hi evrybody ‘im new to codeigniter and to MVC model as well,
I need help to get my project working couse i’ve got this issues:
1) i’m in the main page and i clik on the link of the “about” page, the css file does not seems to load.
and even if i include the css in the head section the images are still missing in the page.
2) in the configure file i’ve set the
$config[‘base_url’] = ‘’;
$config[‘index_page’] = ‘index.php’;
now if i’m in the about page and i clik again on the about link the link it’s missing becouse i set the link in the menu:
About
and so the index.php it’s loaded twice: localhost/mywebsite/index.php/index.php/about.
i could set the condition to cut the link if i’m in the page i need but i would like to know if there is a more polite solution
and hope that the solution it’s not to put my hands in to the mod_rewrite .
I’ll like codeigniter because seems to be easy to configure and so really portable.
and even if it’s simple i can’t figure out how to solve this issues
Thank you everybody for your time!
Even i a newbie to CodeIgniter. I was facing the css problem. I added the css files in separate folder located at the root directory. I solved the problem by adding $this->load->helper('url'); in the controller function of the page.
You need to set $config['base_url'] in config.php to http://www.yourdomain.com and provide full path when linking css to the page like this :
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<?php echo base_url();?>resources/css/file.css">
just add
> <?php echo base_url();?>
before or or URL link
> (example: <script src="<?php echo
> base_url();?>assets/js/jquery-1.7.1.min.js"></script>)
to load the link to all page and separate the header and footer in separate file which could help you a lot minimize the page content.

Missing CSS file and images after URL rewrite

I'm trying to make user friendly URL using mode rewrite.
My problem is, that after giving category like 'name' to my URL, when I call the page using new URL, it can't load the CSS file or images.
I have a link like:
localhost/mywebsite/project?id=22
New link is something like
localhost/mywebsite/project/22/myproject.project
htaccess code:
RewriteRule ^project/([0-9]*)/.*\.project$ /project.php?project=$1 [L]
(it might not be 100% right but I don't have access to my code right now so I just wrote this and it works fine on the original source)
My root directory is localhost/mywebsite/
and my CSS file is in css/style.css
localhost/mywebsite/css/style.css
my htaccess
localhost/mywebsite/.htaccess
and my project.php file is in
localhost/mywebsite/project.php
So in the project page I have access to CSS file by using relative path,
<link href="css/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
but when I use rewritten URL page can't find the CSS file.
I can't use absolute path with domain name because I don't have domain yet! and it can be anything.
one way is to use relative path to domain as suggested on the similar questions
localhost/mywebsite/project.php
and when i run my script localy my root directory is
localhost
so css link should look like
href="mywebsite/css/style.css"
but when i go live i should change all links to probably something like
href="/css/style.css"
this seems like lots of work
For your local version add
<base href="//localhost/mywebsite" />
to the head section
and for your live versions change it to
<base href="//your.domain.here" />
reference at http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/struct/links.html#h-12.4
you have to define the base path or the server view path in the connection.php and whenever u want that path, make that global. then that variable will b called and the css or images will take the whole path.
for example
$SVP="http://www.example.com/"
global $SVP;
echo $SVP;
so
Insert an image into the same file with the same relative path as the css href link, load the page in a browser, right-click the image in internet explorer, click properties and you should see where the relative path actually points to.

Codeigniter Custom Routing showing root site background image?

Ok, so I have a project I'm working on: http://www.d2burke.com/exp/intern/
BaseURL is set to: '/exp/intern/'
.htaccess reroutes to /exp/intern/index.php
I have custom routes set up for
http://www.d2burke.com/exp/intern/questions
-- $route['apply'] = "internship/apply";
http://www.d2burke.com/exp/intern/apply
-- $route['questions'] = "internship/questions";
etc.
When you go to http://www.d2burke.com/exp/intern/internship/questions, all is well and the normal tan background shows up...
When you use one of the custom routes...you get the background image from my main site...? what is the world is going on?
You seem to overwrite the background by loading an extra style sheet in the body content like so
<link rel="stylesheet" href="../../css/style.css" />
The browser interprets this as a relative path to your page path.
In the internship/questions page, this relative page translate to http://www.d2burke.com/exp/css/style.css, which doesn't exists.
The fix would be to use an absolute path like /css/style.css
Note: It's pretty obvious if you use Firebug and check the Net tab
EDIT: Alternatively, open Firebug, click the arrow in the Console tab and enable "Show Network Error". That way any 404 error will appear in your console and come up as an error (great debug feature)
