I am dynamically populating a list based on what is in the database, and I would like each list item to have a unique class name - something simple, for example the first would have the class item-1, and the second would have the class item-2.
This is the php code I am using to create the list:
<?php
$metas=trim(get_post_meta($post->ID,'hike_meta',true),'');
$metas_arr=explode("\n",$metas);
$metas1=array_slice($metas_arr,0,3);
$metas2=array_slice($metas_arr,3,3);
?>
<div class="loca_meta">
<ul>
<?php foreach($metas1 as $meta){
list($k, $v) = explode('|', $meta);
echo "<li><span class='bold'>$k</span>:<br>$v</li>";
}?>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="loca_meta">
<ul>
<?php foreach($metas2 as $meta){
list($k, $v) = explode('|', $meta);
echo "<li><span class='bold'>$k</span>:<br>$v</li>";
}?>
</ul>
</div>
What extra code do I need, to give each list item a unique class? As a side note, I am very much a beginner when it comes to php, so please let me know if you need any more information.
You can add $counter variable to get the incremented value and assign it to class.
<div class="loca_meta">
<ul>
<?php $counter = 0; foreach($metas1 as $meta){
list($k, $v) = explode('|', $meta);
echo "<li><span class='bold <?php echo "item_".$counter ?>'>$k</span>:<br>$v</li>";
$counter++;
}?>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="loca_meta">
<ul>
<?php foreach($metas2 as $meta){
list($k, $v) = explode('|', $meta);
echo "<li><span class='bold <?php echo "item_".$counter ?>'>$k</span>:<br>$v</li>";
$counter++;
}?>
</ul>
</div>
You can use for loop:
<?php for($i = 0; $i < count($metas1); $i++){
list($k, $v) = explode('|', $metas[$i]);
echo "<li><span class="bold item-".$i+1.">$k</span>:<br>$v</li>";
}?>
Result will be:
<li><span class="bold item-1"><!-- content --></span>:<br><!-- content --></li>
<li><span class="bold item-2"><!-- content --></span>:<br><!-- content --></li>
<li><span class="bold item-3"><!-- content --></span>:<br><!-- content --></li>
and so on.

I created a database to store a menu informations with 3 level (2 sub menus level).
You can see it on the left here : https://volt-services.fr/sites/stge/index.php#
Here is the table in the database:
And the code to translate it to HTML:
<?php
$req = $DB->query("SELECT * FROM menu ORDER BY ordered");
foreach ($req as $r) {
if($r->level == 1) {
$tab[$r->ordered] = array($r->id,$r->name,$r->class,$r->icon);
} elseif ($r->level == 2) {
$tab[$r->parent][4][$r->ordered] = array($r->id,$r->name);
} elseif ($r->level == 3) {
$tab[$r->cat][4][$r->parent][2][$r->ordered] = array($r->id,$r->name);
}
}
foreach ($tab as $key => $value) {
?>
<li data-menu="<?= $value[0]; ?>" class="<?= $value[2]; ?> menu-item">
<span class="material-icons-outlined"><?= $value[3]; ?></span>
<span class="titre_menu"> <?= $value[1]; ?></span>
<ul id="sub_menu<?= $value[0]; ?>" class="box_sub_exp <?= $value[2]; ?>">
<?php foreach ($value[4] as $ke => $val) { // SUB MENU POSITION 4 ?>
<li class="<?= $value[2]; ?> submenu-item"><?= $val[1]; ?>
<?php if(!empty($val[2])) { // IS A MENU IN POSITION 2 ?>
<ul class="box_sub_sub_exp">
<?php foreach ($val[2] as $k => $v) { // SUB MENU POSITION 2 ?>
<li class="<?= $value[2]; ?> submenu-item"><?= $v[1]; ?></li>
<?php } ?>
</ul>
<?php } ?>
</li>
<?php } ?>
</ul>
</li>
<?php } ?>
</ul>
</nav>
</section>
On the first sub menu everything is OK. But on the second, the first line is missing, on the third 2 first lines are missing, etc...
I think there is a problem with my loop, could you please help me to find it ?
FIXED : the problem was in the request, not "ORDER BY ordered" but by "id"
Even if you set a numeric key with $r->ordered, you have to sort your table before your display loop !
Give a numeric key to a table line doesn't "auto-sort" it on loop.
Try using ksort() on $tab before your display foreach. So it's will use keys you've define and sort your table in order.
I do foreach loop to output my data so my data will be like this
Dog
Cat
Mouse
Bird
Egg
Eagle
Fish
using this code
<div class="col-md-6">
<?php foreach ($treefields as $key=>$item): ?>
<?php if($key==0);?>
<?php if($item['title'] == $estate_data_option_1057): ?>
<div class="additional-amenities">
<span class="available"><i class="fa fa-check-square"></i></span><strong> <?php echo $options_name_1057; ?>:</strong><?php echo $estate_data_option_1057;?></span>
</div>
<?php if (count($item['childs_4']) > 0) foreach ($item['childs_4'] as $child): ?>
<div class="additional-amenities">
<span class="available"><i class="fa fa-check-square"></i></span><strong><?php _che($child['description']); ?></strong><span><?php echo $child['title']; ?></span>
</div>
<?php endforeach; ?>
<?php else: ?>
<?php ?>
<?php endif;?>
<?php endforeach; ?> </div></div>
How can i make it 2 columns like this?
- Dog - Egg
- Cat - Eagle
- Mouse - Fish
- Bird
First count the number of items in your array, then figure out what half of that would be and ceil it, so it's not a float. Then use that value in a conditional to echo your markup to break it into multiple columns.
For example, here is the technique boiled down to put the array into two different ul elements.
<ul>
<?php
$animals = array('Dog','Cat','Mouse','Bird','Egg','Eagle','Fish');
$numAnimals = count($animals);
$maxAnimalsPerColumn = ceil($numAnimals/2);
for($i=0; $i < $numAnimals; $i++) {
echo "<li>".$animals[$i]."</li>";
if ($i+1 == $maxAnimalsPerColumn ) {
echo "</ul><ul>";
}
}
?>
</ul>
$numAnimals would be 7
$maxAnimalsPerColumn would be 4 ($numAnimals divided by 2, ceil'd)
When the loop value (plus 1 since it starts at zero) matches $maxAnimalsPerColumn, it will echo a closing ul tag and a new one to start the second.
The resulting markup would be roughly:
<ul>
<li>Dog</li>
<li>Cat</li>
<li>Mouse</li>
<li>Bird</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Egg</li>
<li>Eagle</li>
<li>Fish</li>
</ul>
Use a counter. Example:
$nbrOfColumns = 2;
$rowsPerColumn = ceil(count($treefields)/$nbrOfColumns);
$counter = 1;
<div class="col-md-6">
foreach ($treefields as $key=>$item){
if($counter === $rowsPerColumn){
echo "</div><div class="col-md-6">";
$counter = 0;
}
(generate your HTML here)
$counter++;
}
</div>
I'm used to doing this with Django and it's fairly simple, so trying to workout how it's done in PHP. What I'd like to do is within a PHP for foreach loop I would like to add the class name of 'last' to every fourth item in the list.
PHP code:
<?php
$products = array();
$product_counter = 0;
foreach ($_productCollection as $_product)
{
?>
So this is my current HTML output:
<li>
<div class="contentWrap"> content here </div>
</li>
<li>
<div class="contentWrap"> content here </div>
</li>
<li>
<div class="contentWrap"> content here </div>
</li>
<li>
<div class="contentWrap"> content here </div>
</li>
However, what I would like to acheive is:
<li>
<div class="contentWrap"> content here </div>
</li>
<li>
<div class="contentWrap"> content here </div>
</li>
<li>
<div class="contentWrap"> content here </div>
</li>
<li>
<div class="contentWrap last"> content here </div>
</li>
I was using the nth child attribute in CSS3 but it needs to be supported in IE8!
Anyway, PHP isn't my strong point and can't make use of the examples i've found online so any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Use something like this:
$counter = 0;
foreach ($_productCollection as $_product) {
//whatever
if ($counter % 4 == 3) {
//do stuff for every 4th element
}
$counter++;
}
Simple right?
for($i = 0; $i < $countOfArray; $i++) {
if($i % 4 == 3) {
// add last class ....
}
}
Hello :) I realy need your help here. I dynamically generate list of items but instead of putting each item in separate <li> I want to get something like this:
<ul>
<li>
<div>$pt</div>
<div>$pt</div>
<div>$pt</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>$pt</div>
<div>$pt</div>
<div>$pt</div>
</li>
</ul>
Here is code I have:
<ul class="some-ul-class">
<?php $itemCount = 3; ?>
<?php $i=0; foreach ($p->getItems() as $pt): ?>
<?php if ($i++%$itemCount==0): ?>
<li class="item">
<?php endif; ?>
<div>$pt</div>
</li>
<?php endforeach; ?>
</ul>
But as the result I get structure like this:
<ul>
<li>
<div>$pt</div>
</li>
<div>$pt</div>
<div>$pt</div>
<li>
<div>$pt</div>
</li>
<div>$pt</div>
<div>$pt</div>
</ul>
Thank you for help
<ul class="some-ul-class">
<?php $itemCount = 3; ?>
<?php $i=0; foreach ($p->getItems() as $pt): ?>
<?php if ($i%$itemCount==0): ?>
<li class="item">
<?php endif; ?>
<div>$pt</div>
<?php if ($i%$itemCount==2): ?>
</li>
<?php endif; $i++; ?>
<?php endforeach; ?>
</ul>
You can try this.
<ul class="some-ul-class">
<?php $itemCount = 3;
$i=0;
foreach ($p->getItems() as $pt):
if ($i%$itemCount==0):
echo '<li class="item">';
endif;
echo "<div>$pt</div>";
if ($i%$itemCount==2):
echo '</li>';
endif; $i++;
endforeach; ?>
</ul>
Try something like this:
<ul class="some-ul-class">
<?php $itemCount = 4; ?>
<li>
<?php $i = 1; foreach ($p->getItems() as $pt): ?>
<?php if ( $i % $itemCount == 0): ?>
</li><li>
<?php endif; ?>
<?php $i++; ?>
<div><?php echo $pt; ?></div>
<?php endforeach; ?>
</li>
</ul>
This generates:
<ul class="some-ul-class">
<li>
<div>1</div>
<div>2</div>
<div>3</div>
</li><li>
<div>4</div>
<div>5</div>
<div>6</div>
</li>
</ul>

Your code will not achieve nested DIVS in LI because you need a multidimensional array to nest the items within the container. The solution is to break the initial DB result set in to chunks with array chunk.
This just splits your array (1,2,3,4,5,6) to ([0] => array(1,2,3), [2] => array(4,5,6)
Run through the loop below you will get two LI with 3 nested DIV. The code is not tested but should be something like operational.
<?php
$items = array(1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15);
// Your initial item array
$rows = 3;
// Number of rows in each li
$items = array_chunk($items, $rows);
// Final nested array in blocks of 3
if ($items) {
echo "<ul class='some-ul-class'>\n";
foreach ( $items as $item ) {
echo "<li class='items'>\n";
foreach ($item as $divs) {
echo "<div>{$divs}</div>\n";
}
echo "</li>\n";
}
echo "</ul>\n";
}
?>
I'm searching for a way to sort the frontend display of categories in my navigation.
This is the code for my navigation:
<div id="menu-accordion" class="accordion">
<?php
foreach ($this->getStoreCategories() as $_category): ?>
<?php $open = $this->isCategoryActive($_category) && $_category->hasChildren(); ?>
<h3 class="accordion-toggle"><?php print $_category->getName();?></h3>
<div class="accordion-content">
<ul>
<?php foreach ($_category->getChildren() as $child): ?>
<li>
<span class="ui-icon ui-icon-triangle-1-e vMenuIconFloat"></span>
<?php print $child->getName();?>
</li>
<?php endforeach; ?>
</ul>
</div>
<?php endforeach ?>
</div>
I tried using asort() to sort $this->getStoreCategories(), but it resolved to an error 500, so I guess that it's not an array, but an object (which seems obvious for the objectoriented programming of magento). I tried finding a solution for object, but failed and now I'm a bit stuck.
Thanks for your help.
The call to $this->getStoreCategories() does not return an array. But you can build up your own array and use the key of the array as the element to sort on (assuming you want to sort by name of the category):
foreach ($this->getStoreCategories() as $_category)
{
$_categories[$_category->getName()] = $_category;
}
ksort($_categories);
Now instead of iterating over $this->getStoreCategories() you iterate over the $_categories array. So your code would look something like:
<div id="menu-accordion" class="accordion">
<?php
$_categories = array();
foreach ($this->getStoreCategories() as $_category)
{
$_categories[$_category->getName()] = $_category;
}
ksort($_categories);
foreach ($_categories as $_category): ?>
<?php $open = $this->isCategoryActive($_category) && $_category->hasChildren(); ?>
<h3 class="accordion-toggle"><?php print $_category->getName();?></h3>
<div class="accordion-content">
<ul>
<?php foreach ($_category->getChildren() as $child): ?>
<li>
<span class="ui-icon ui-icon-triangle-1-e vMenuIconFloat"></span>
<?php print $child->getName();?>
</li>
<?php endforeach; ?>
</ul>
</div>
<?php endforeach ?>
</div>
