I want to unlink an image file from children dir of a parent dir.
I developing this project in a director folder under my website (mysite/project) but when i complete the project i will move to another hosting package.
Whic code i need use for stable running in all directories?
I get this error:
Warning: unlink(../../images/urunler/deneme-urun.jpg): No such file or directory in /home/admin/public_html/eticaret/admin/includes/updateproduct.php on line 120
My folder structure:
click here to see my folder structure
$delete = unlink("../../images/products/".$img);
Before running unlink() command you can check the existence of the file to get rid of such error
$path = "../../images/products/".$img;
if (file_exists(path)) {
unlink($path)
}
Better is using the full directory path (absolute path). An example, let your project structure is
and your unlinking code is in script.php, then your can get full absolute path the following way
$path = __DIR__ . "/../../images/products/{$img}";
if (file_exists(path)) {
unlink($path)
}
Thanks for all answers.
I have a fault on this topic.
Image name is xxx.jpg in my database but xxx.jpeg in the folder.
but there is an interesting situation: if you have an image as .jpeg format, you can open on browser as .jpg format.
I've tried a lot of methods to solve the above error, but I've found that.
I using chrome browser now.
So i solved my problem yet :)
as the script is run from "public_html/eticaret/admin/includes/" you need to .. traverse back 3 directories to get to public_html which is a common ancestor folder for both image and script
according to your directory image your images are in public_html/myproject/images/products/ and according to error detailed in your comment you are trying to delete from images/urunler/ I assume urunler is the actual project name.
if the folder containg your images is urunler try $delete = unlink("../../../images/urunler/".$img);
if the container folder is products try $delete = unlink("../../../images/products/".$img);
if that fails try using an absolute path instead of a relative path.

I am trying to move a file from a temporary path to the correct path. However no matter what I tried it always sends back this file not found error:
League\Flysystem\FileNotFoundException
File not found at path: var/www/html/storage/app/public/covers/tmp/608c07a082451-1619789728/81-536x354.jpeg
I am using sail thus there are 'var/www/html/' in the path, even though there is no problem with this path in the container since it is possible to reach this path from the frontend fetch API and that is how the temp file was saved.
Here is the code in the controller:
//...
$temp_file = TempFile::where('folder', $cover_folder)->first();
if ($temp_file) {
// retrieve file path and target path
$filepath = storage_path("app/public/covers/tmp/{$temp_file->folder}/{$temp_file->filename}");
$target_path = storage_path("app/public/covers/{$course->id}/");
Storage::move($filepath, $target_path);
$course->cover_img = "{$target_path}/{$temp_file->filename}";
$course->save();
// remove temp directory and temp file record
rmdir(storage_path("app/public/covers/tmp/{$temp_file->folder}/"));
$temp_file->delete();
}
The error traceback highlighted on this line:
Storage::move($filepath, $target_path);
Also tried to use Storage::disk('public')->move(), or public_storage, or Storage::path(), or only pure string, all did not work.
Symlink is set from public/storage to storage by running php artisan storage:link.
I have searched as much as I could find on laracast, stack overflow, or github, but could not reach a solution. Does anyone have any idea on this issue?
Really really appreciate it.
dont use storage_path function because method Storage::move( have prefix path [app_path]/storage/app/
Storage::move("public/covers/tmp/{$temp_file->folder}/{$temp_file->filename}", "public/covers/{$course->id}/");
I am new to PHP but have experience in .net. I need to know a way to save images uploaded to a PHP page in a subdirectory of that page and return its path. I have checked and not found a way to give permission to an existing subdirectory in PHP. I am using wamp for development.
passed subdirectory in file_put_contents with the image file name.
got full path and appended the subdirectory.
$ImagePath = __DIR__.'/driverimages/'.$ImageName ;
file_put_contents($ImagePath, base64_decode($data->profilepic));
I know that if I create a directory from a PHP script with 0774 permission I can write to it. But I need to write to an existing subdirectory and return the image path so that it can be used in the front end to show the image.
I need to be able to write to a subdirectory from the current directory and return the path of the written image file.
$ImagePath = __DIR__.'/driverimages/'.$ImageName;
mkdir(dirname($ImagePath),777);
file_put_contents($ImagePath, base64_decode($data->profilepic));
I have created image uploading codes and they're only allowing me to upload image into only directory that is in the same directory as PHP file.
$profile = 'profiles/'.$_FILES['profile']['name'];
if I change it like this:
$profile = 'php_codes/profiles/'.$_FILES['profile']['name'];
it shows me error. I'm using copy() function to upload it.
Please help me to get to know how to upload it in any directory even into any other partition. Thanks for your help.
You will need to provide the error, but it's very likely that the error you are getting is that the directory that you are attempting to copy the file to does not exist. It could also be permission problems, but your confusion seems to be over building a path.
The problem with your code is that your path is relative to the PHP file's location, rather than being a direct path from your root directory. You should read a little bit about how to navigate file structures, but these are the three key things to remember when working in a *nix file system (such as Linux):
If your file path does not start with a slash, then the path will be relative to the directory that the PHP script is in.
If you start your file path with a slash, the path will be relative to the root directory.
You start a path with one or more ../, to traverse to a parent directory.
So for example, let's say you have these three directories, with your PHP script residing in /php_codes:
/php_codes
/php_codes/code_snippets
/profiles
If you wanted to copy the file to php_codes, your path would be relative to the PHP script:
$profiles = $_FILES['profile']['name'];
If you wanted to copy the file to php_codes/code_snippets, again you could just do it relative to your PHP script:
$profiles = "code_snippets/" . $_FILES['profile']['name'];
However, this is an opportunity to also show how you might do it with an absolute path from the root directory. You could use this (note the slash at the beginning of the path):
$profiles = "/php_scripts/code_snippets/" . $_FILES['profile']['name'];
If you want to copy the file to /profiles, which is outside of the /php_codes directory, there are two ways you can do it.
The first way is with an absolute path from the root directory (path begins with a slash), just like the example above:
$profiles = "/profiles/ " . $_FILES['profile']['name'];
Or, you can make it relative, by using ../ to go up one level to the parent directory:
$profiles = "../profiles/ " . $_FILES['profile']['name'];
A quick note about using ../ to go up one directory: you can repeat that as many times as needed, to continue going up a level. For example, if your PHP script was located inside of /php_codes/code_snippets, but you wanted to copy a file to /profiles, then you would have to go up two levels:
$profiles = "../../profiles/ " . $_FILES['profile']['name'];
you can use
$profiles=__DIR__ . "/profiles/" . $_FILES['profile']['name'];
that will work as DIR will be your script directory and then it will be absolute path
I have finally got it! Just using ../profiles and then directory is making it. You just write dots (2) then times you want to go back. If two times, ../../profiles. Thanks for your help.
I've been using laravel for nearly all my projects and I've came across a problem when trying to list all files in a directory.
Here is my code below:
$directory = ("upload/"."$username->username");
$scanned_directory = storage::allfiles($directory);
So as you can see First line is the directory which is in Upload followed by the username of the account.
The second line is meant to scan this directory and list only files. Sadly it always gives me back an empty array. Using Scandir() here works... But it gives me folders which I'm not wanting.
So... Any tips? I checked the API and I really can't see what is wrong here :(
The reason you're getting no results when using the Storage::allFiles('directory') method is this method only looks inside of your application's storage folder, usually storage/app. Hence why modifying the storage path in configuration works as mentioned by #yassine (you shouldn't do this).
If you wish to use files outside of the storage folder, simply use the File facade instead. e.g. File::allFiles('directory')
Me too i had the same issue for local storage. I fixed it by :
project/config/filesystems.php
line 44
changed root folder to from storage_path('app') to changed to
base_path()
then I provided a related path to the root folder in Storage::files() or Storage::allfiles().
Like Storage::allfiles("app") if I want to fetch files withing the sub folder "app" relative to the base path given in the config file.
Good luck
$direcotry has to be an absolute path from your laravel root folder.
When your uploaded folder is in the root folder try this
$directory = base_path("upload/"."$username->username");
$scanned_directory = storage::allfiles($directory);
i have my web folder in c:/wamp/www/ which is the default webroot for wamp. Then i have a folder image in c:/image/ that contains images been processed by another application which i wont like to relocate. I want to be able to load up an image with its file name from c:/image/
e.g. img src = "c:/image/FA12.jpg"
within my PHP scripts. I really Need Help on this Please. Thanks for your support.
If you need to read a file into php use "c:\image\FA12.jpg". You may also create a link "file://c\image\FA12.jpg". There's no way to create a relative path, since it is outside root dir.
As per my knowledge it is better to create a folder of your images under your localhost or server ('var/www/images') to have a proper relative URL to that images.
Url's like c:\image\fa12.jpg can create problems when you make your product online. Other wise you can do provide static urls as kirilloid suggest or you can copy that images to some proper folder in your localhost sever with use of php function "copy" and use that folder as a reference. avoid static url's if possible.:)
as i have linux system now i tested below code locally. create one file test.php under /www and put below code in it and run file in browser. see if this can be your solution
<?php $link = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'];
$domain = strstr($link, '/www');
echo $domain;//this will output /www
$root = strstr($link, '/www', true);
echo "<br>".$root;//this will output /var
?>
You can try this by putting "/wamp/www" instead of "/www" in above code and you will get c:/ (perhaps) in $root and then appeng folder name images and path accordingly to $root.
May this will help you
