I am trying to get to a page I added to my route but it says "File Not Found".
I have set up a route to the WebsiteController but that didn't work. The index route '/' is working as expected. I tried manually creating the controller and using php artisan to see if there was a difference but it's the same. I also tried change the "post" to a "get", "any", etc.
Routes
<?php
Route::get('/', function () {
return view('welcome');
});
Route::post('/website/{url}', 'WebsiteController#index');
WebsiteController
<?php
namespace App\Http\Controllers;
use Illuminate\Http\Request;
class WebsiteController extends Controller
{
public function index($url) {
return $url;
}
}
I expected to see what I have put in the URL after 'website/', it simply says "File not found".
You have defined the route to expect a parameter:
Route::post('/website/{url}', 'WebsiteController#index');
Because you wrote website/ as the address, you did not provide the parameter that the route was expecting (url in this case). If your route was:
Route::post('/website', 'WebsiteController#index');
This would have worked, but failed when it got to the controller because the index method was expecting a parameter.
Simple fix: change the route as above, or add the parameter at the end of the url: website/someUrl. Also make sure you are using the right method (post vs get) - if typing in the address bar, remember to use get in your Route method.

Below is an example of the route definition in my routes/web.php file.
<?php
use Illuminate\Support\Facades\Route;
use App\Http\Controllers\WidgetController;
Route::controller(WidgetController::class)->name('widgets.')->prefix('widgets')->group(function () {
Route::get('{id}/{slug}', 'show')->name('show');
Route::get('create', 'create')->name('create')->middleware('auth');
Route::post('store', 'store')->name('store')->middleware('auth');
Route::get('{id}/edit', 'edit')->name('edit')->middleware('auth');
Route::post('update', 'update')->name('update')->middleware('auth');
});
All the routes listed work fine except for one.
Route::get('{id}/edit', 'edit')->name('edit')->middleware('auth');
For whatever reason, it works completely fine when it's written like this:
Route::get('{id}', 'edit')->name('edit')->middleware('auth');
or this:
Route::get('{id}//edit', 'edit')->name('edit')->middleware('auth');
With "Route::resource", the default would be the first "edit" route. However, I get a 404 when defining it like that. My associated controller method is written like this:
public function edit($id)
{
// Rest of code here
}
Could it be that Laravel is mistaking "edit" as a second parameter? But that doesn't really make much sense considering it's the default for the resource method.
Try putting
Route::get('{id}/edit', 'edit')->nam
Above
Route::get('{id}/{slug}'
Since {slug} could be anything it's more then likely getting executed first. I would suggest putting that last.
I have just created one of about view in view/about.blade.php, and I am accessing this from localhost/myproject/public/about, but it's not working.
However, localhost/myprojects/public/ is working fine; about view has been created on same parameters as welcome by default in Laravel.
Firstly the information is not sufficient to say anything.Please provide your route.Also its important how you are running your project ,is it via Xampp(or Lampp whatever is there) or "php artisan serve"
but looking from your working directory "localhost/myprojects/public" I guess its not by the command . Try localhost/myprojects/public/about.blade.php or run it by php artisan serve and try route localhost:8000/about
Have you added particular routing to web.php file?
Route::get('about', function () {
return view('about');
});
https://laravel.com/docs/5.7/routing
Which error are you getting?
404 - Not found
Route::get('/about', function () {
return view('about');
});
Check routes
php artisan route:list
Laravel is a MVC Framework, Which means You Have a Controller which procede some logic when some request come in and interact with the model if need, after that the controller return some view.
And because you whan to acccess your view file, you must past through controller, and that controller will render the view. Because the views folder is not in the \public dicretory as subdirectory you can't access to It with url like localhost/myproject/public/about even if you get access to it, you will not get HTML, you'll get some plain text with Blade tags. It's a must to return view in you controller by rendering it, somewhere in the background Laravel procede all Blade Tag and return HTML that correspond to that tags.
What I can suggest you Is to create some route in your route file like this
Route::get('/about', function(Request $request){
// Automatically Laravel will look this file in the view directory
return view('about');
});
Or you can go with the controller like procedure by creating some controller, go in your terminal and execute
php artisan make:controller AboutController
this will generate a file name AboutController.php in app\Http\Controllers diretory within witch you will found
namespace App\Http\Controllers;
class HomeController extends Controller
{
}
after that add
public function index()
{
return View::make('about');
}
Don't forget to include use the Illuminale\Supports\Facades\View on top of your file
And one more important thing which left is to configure the Route, for that go in routes directory in the web.php file add
Route::get('/about', 'AboutController#index')->name('about');
I have a single domain/subdomain project. In order to see the event by slug, I made this route:
Route::prefix('events')->namespace('Content\Controller')->group(function () {
Route::get('/', 'EventController#getIndex')->name('event.index');
Route::get('{slug}', 'EventController#getView')->name('event.show');
Route::get('{slug}/edit', 'EventController#getEdit')->name('event.edit');
Route::post('load-more-ajax/{region?}', 'EventController#postLoadMoreAjax');
Route::any('sorted-ajax/{region?}', 'EventController#anySortedAjax');
Route::get('category/{category_slug}/{subcategory_slug?}', 'EventController#getCategory');
});
After my page didn't load correctly, I did a dump in the controller:
public function getView($slug)
{
return $slug;
}
To get to the route I am using this URL: https://example.com/events/slug-example.
The problem is that the route is being hit as I see the response when I change it, but I am not getting the slug, instead I am getting Region object back.
If I do this:
public function getView($region, $slug)
{
return $slug;
}
Then I get the slug back. But I have no idea how is this possible, and how could I do it (I came as another dev on the existing project).
I tried commenting out all the middleware and it is still the same. How can I even make something fill the method if I didn't explicitly say it?
EDIT
I noticed there is binding going on in routes file:
Route::bind('region', function ($value) {
...
});
Now if I dd($value) I get the variable back. How is this value filled? From where could it be forwarded?
Looking quickly it should work, but maybe you was verifying other url.
Make sure you put:
Route::get('{slug}', 'EventController#getView')->name('event.show');
Route::get('{slug}/edit', 'EventController#getEdit')->name('event.edit');
routes at the end of routes you showed.
EDIT
If you think that's not the case and you don't have your routes cached you should run:
php artisan route:list
to verify your routes.
EDIT2
After explaining by OPs in comment, domain used for accessing site is:
{region}.example.com
So having $region in controller as 1st parameter is correct behaviour because of route model binding and other route parameters will be 2nd, 3rd and so on.
Instead of
Route::prefix('events')->namespace('Content\Controller')->group(function () {
Route::get('/', 'EventController#getIndex')->name('event.index');
Route::get('{slug}', 'EventController#getView')->name('event.show');
Route::get('{slug}/edit', 'EventController#getEdit')->name('event.edit');
Route::post('load-more-ajax/{region?}', 'EventController#postLoadMoreAjax');
Route::any('sorted-ajax/{region?}', 'EventController#anySortedAjax');
Route::get('category/{category_slug}/{subcategory_slug?}', 'EventController#getCategory');
});
try
Route::prefix('events')->namespace('Content\Controller')->group(function () {
Route::get('/', 'EventController#getIndex')->name('event.index');
Route::post('load-more-ajax/{region?}', 'EventController#postLoadMoreAjax');
Route::any('sorted-ajax/{region?}', 'EventController#anySortedAjax');
Route::get('category/{category_slug}/{subcategory_slug?}', 'EventController#getCategory');
Route::get('{slug}', 'EventController#getView')->name('event.show');
Route::get('{slug}/edit', 'EventController#getEdit')->name('event.edit');
});
I'm fairly new to Laravel. I'm having a problem with routing.
Route::group(['prefix'=>'api/v1'],function(){
Route::resource('results','RequestController');
Route::get('results/getByName/{name}','RequestController#getByName');
Route::get('results/getLastTen','RequestController#getLastTen');
});
The problem is that the last route under prefix api/v1 does not work. When I call it it shows nothing, not even any error.
The code at the requestController is:
public function getLastTen(){
$results=DB::table('latest_random_trends')->limit(10)->get();
return $results;
}
Everything is alright with the code on the controller since it works when I call it from the routes.php file outside of the prefix 'api/v1' like this:
Route::get('results/getLastTen','RequestController#getLastTen');
but when it is inside the prefix it does not work unless I add a variable to it like this:
Route::get('results/getLastTen/{var}','RequestController#getLastTen');
Since you have a Route::resource above it, I think what's happening is that the show method on Resource Controller is getting the route instead of the one you wrote.
Try one the following:
Exclude the show method if you're not going to use it
Route::resource('results','RequestController', ['except' => 'show']);
Move your custom route above the resource route
Route::group(['prefix'=>'api/v1'],function(){
Route::get('results/getLastTen','RequestController#getLastTen');
Route::resource('results','RequestController');
Route::get('results/getByName/{name}', 'RequestController#getByName');
});
For more information, check out the show action on Laravel Docs
Its Laravel 5.
When the route.php contains this:
Route::get('/foo', function () {
return 'Hello World';
});
then the page shows with the text "Hello World".
However, as soon as I add this new line in route.php:
Route::get('/foo2', 'IndexController');
then the page show this error:
UnexpectedValueException in Route.php line 567: Invalid route action: [App\Http\Controllers\IndexController]
I previously created a controller with artisan which now looks like this:
class IndexController extends Controller
{
public function index()
{
echo 'test';
}
}
what am I doing wrong?
You have to specify wich method will be executed:
Route::get('/foo2', 'IndexController#index');
If you are using get method of Route. Normally first argument provided should be the url and second argument should be the method (there are other ways argument could be passed)
Route::get('/foo2', 'IndexController#index');
If you want to resourceful route . Normally first argument should be the resource name and the second argument should be RESTful controller name. (there are other ways argument could be passed).Example: photo is the resource name and PhotoController is the controller name.
Route::resource('photo', 'PhotoController');
in your case it should work this way
Route::resource('/foo2', 'IndexController');
or
Route::get('/foo2', 'IndexController#index');
so when you visit
yoursite.com/foo2
you will be displayed with IndexController index method
See reference more to learn laravel's restful resource controller
reference: https://laravel.com/docs/5.1/controllers#restful-resource-controllers
You need to specify the function inside the controller not just the controller:
Route::get('/foo2', 'IndexController#index');
You have to reference Controller#method as:
Route::get('/myroute', ['uses' => 'MyController#methodName']);
