mysql-client-5.6 were installed normally.
I first, uninstalled mysql-server-5.7:
sudo apt-get remove dbconfig-mysql
sudo apt-get remove --purge mysql*
sudo apt-get purge mysql*
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get autoclean
I added repos using this 2 methods:
sudo add-apt-repository 'deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu trusty universe'
sudo apt-get update
and
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:ondrej/mysql-5.6
sudo apt-get update
Notice that I also installed PHP 5.6 without any problem.
Since all my project depend on MCRYPT, I have to install this version in order to it to works well.
I used mysql-server-5.7 but it is not compatible ... datas are not inserted into mysql server.
Your help is needed, thank you in advance.
I think the issue is with the mysql client, because you already have it and it is trying to install it, which is causing the error.
Run this command to cleanup unused libraries:
sudo apt-get autoremove
and then try to install it again

Recently I'm working with Laravel and LDAP (Active directory) authentication. But I can't install php7.2-ldap, I also tried to install in php7.3 but failed.
Currently I'm using ubuntu v18.10 with multiple php version.
I tried:
$ sudo apt-get install php7.2-ldap
and got this output
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
php7.2-ldap : Depends: php7.2-common (= 7.2.19-0ubuntu0.18.10.1) but 7.2.20-1+ubuntu18.10.1+deb.sury.org+1 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
I also tried $ sudo apt-get update and upgrade also before do it.
7.2.20-1+ubuntu18.10.1+deb.sury.org+1 is to be installed
deb.sury.org refers to Ondřej Surý PPA, you need to reinstall php following these steps :
You need to have the software-properties-common package installed :
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
Add the ondrej PPA repo and update sources :
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:ondrej/php
sudo apt-get update
Install php and needed extensions :
sudo apt-get install php7.2-common php7.2-ldap

I am trying to install curl on my ubunutu 14 server with php 7.2 installed. I run the following command:
sudo apt-get install php7.0-curl
but it gives error:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package php7.0-curl
E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'php7.0-curl'
I then tried to resolve this issue by running commands:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ondrej/php
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install apache2 libapache2-mod-php7.0 php7.0
But that also end up with same "Couldn't find package" error.
Your Ubuntu distro trusty is too old and those packages aren't available. You will have to build the library from the source by yourself.
Here you can find solution your problem How do I install the ext-curl extension with PHP 7?
Shortly, try to execute
sudo apt-get install php-curl
Also you can use sudo apt-cache search curl which shows you available packages for installation.
Initially the problem was PHP files on my server were displayed as plain text(the whole code was shown). So I found out by investigating that the MIME type has to be added to the /etc/mime.types , so I did that and also restarted my server but that didn't help solve the issue so on further investigation, I found out from here that we needed php5 module enabled and on running the apachectl -M, I couldn't find the php5 module listed. So I tried installing it and this was the outcome of it :
admin#vm:~$ sudo apt-get install php5
...
php5_invoke pdo: already enabled for apache2 SAPI
dpkg: error processing package libapache2-mod-php5 (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
libapache2-mod-php5
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
admin#vm:~$ sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-php5
...
dpkg: error processing package libapache2-mod-php5 (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
libapache2-mod-php5
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
I also need to mention that I created 2 virtual hosts for the sites. I am not sure what is wrong. Could some one help me on this?
This is not a proper solution but I re-installed Apache and it worked fine:
$ sudo apt-get purge apache2
$ sudo apt-get purge php5 libapache2-mod-php5
$ sudo apt-get purge autoremove
$ sudo apt-get install apache2 libapache2-mod-php5 php5
the package libapache2-mod-php5 comprise libphp5.so which locates at /usr/lib/apache2/modules, and php5.conf/php5.load which locate at /etc/apache2/mods-availables.
thus you could get the three files, and copy to corresponding position.
And, you should link, using ln -s, php5.conf/load to /etc/apache2/mods-enables, thus apached could find the configuration file and load the libphp5.so.
I got the same problem and resolve it
I want to install PHP5-Curl in my Debian server. But when I run this command:
apt-get install PHP5-Curl
I got an error like:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package PHP5-Curl is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source
E: Package 'PHP5-Curl' has no installation candidate
Use sudo apt-get install php5.6-curl
Try searching for the available version that suits for you with sudo apt-cache search curl | grep php and then sudo apt-get install php<x>-curl.
In my case it was php7.0-curl.
First search for your php version using command php -v and then download the respective version of php(version)-curl.
It looks like you have multiple, conflicting versions of PHP installed. First, let's clean up. Back up your configuration files first, as this will remove them.
dpkg --purge --force-all php5-curl
apt-get remove php5-*
apt-get purge php5-*
apt-get autoremove
Now, run dpkg -l | grep php5 again, and make sure that no php5-... packages are installed.
Then, let's start fresh:
apt-get install php5-cli php5-curl
If you need the Apache module:
apt-get install libapache2-mod-php5
Or if you need the FPM module:
apt-get install php5-fpm
I'm getting below error when I try to install using apt-get install -y --force-yes hhvm-fastcgi:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have

The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
hhvm-fastcgi : Depends: hhvm (>= 2.3.0)
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
I also did apt-get install hhvm but I'm getting:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
hhvm is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 10 not upgraded.
Is there a way to get this fastcgi working with HHVM?
As of the 3.0.0 release, there is no longer a hhvm-fastcgi package. Instead, the hhvm only supports FastCGI. You can find instructions on how to install that package for your distro here.
Once it has been successfully installed, it'll provide a short blurb on some commands that will then go and configure your web server (either Nginx or Apache) to use HHVM, or you can follow almost any php-fpm installation instructions, just replacing php-fpm with hhvm.
If you don't get the blurb (as you're already running the latest version), you can see it here.
As per the official documentation, we'll install HHVM, which also
includes the ability to start HHVM with FastCGI.
Pre-requisites
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install -y unzip vim git-core curl wget build-essential python-software-properties
Installing HHVM
$ wget -O - http://dl.hhvm.com/conf/hhvm.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -
$ echo deb http://dl.hhvm.com/ubuntu precise main | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hhvm.list
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install -y hhvm
You can also try to do this before installing HHVM:
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:mapnik/boost
Additional:
This page has a comment about a vagrant box that comes pre installed with HHVM.
