Change outerHTML of a php DOMElement? - php

How do I change the outerHtml of an element using PHP DomDocument class? Make sure, no third party library is used such as Simple PHP Dom or else.
For example:
I want to do something like this.
$dom = new DOMDocument;
$dom->loadHTML($html);
$tag = $dom->getElementsByTagName('h3');
foreach ($tag as $e) {
$e->outerHTML = '<h5>Hello World</h5>';
}
libxml_clear_errors();
$html = $dom->saveHTML();
echo $html;
And the output should be like this:
Old Output: <h3>Hello World</h3>
But I need this new output: <p>Hello World</p>

You can create a copy of the element content and attributes in a new node (with the new name you need), and use the function replaceChild().
The current code will work only with simple elements (a text inside a node), if you have nested elements, you will need to write a recursive function.

The XPath //div[#class="remove-me"]/#id is correct, but you need to just loop over the returned elements and add the nodeValue to a list of matching ID's...

If the aim is to fetch the ID of any element with class "remove-me" as is how I interpret the question then perhaps you can try like this - untested btw...

however looking at the code in the question suggests that you wish to delete nodes - in which case build an array of nodes ( nodelist ) and iterate through it from the end to the front - ie: backwards...

I think the best thing you can do is come up with a function that will take the DOMElement that you want to change the InnerHTML of, copy it, and replace it.
In very rough PHP:

$el->parentNode->removeChild($el);

It seems that appendXML doesn't work always - for example if you try to append XML with 3 levels. Here is the function I wrote that always work (you want to set $content as innerHTML to $element):

It looks pretty straightforward. You can change innertextproperty of your elements. It might help.

Setting replace to true will discard the inner html.

Remove empty tags from a XML with PHP

Question
How can I remove empty xml tags in PHP?
Example:

<tag3> ' .$value3. '</tag3>
</parentnode>';
XML Result:
<parentnode>

</parentnode>
What I want!

The XML without the empty tags like "tag3"

You can use XPath with the predicate not(node()) to select all elements that do not have child nodes.

Ideally though, you should probably use domdocument.

PHP Dom Remove element leave contents

I am trying to remove certain links depending on their ID tag, but leave the content of the link. For example I want to turn
Some text goes here
to
Some text goes here
I have tried using the below.
$dom = new DOMDocument;
$dom->loadHtml(mb_convert_encoding($html, 'HTML-ENTITIES', "UTF-8"));
$xp = new DOMXPath($dom);

roughly taken from here but it just spits back the same content of $html.
Any idea's on how I would achieve this?
That's my function for that:
