I want to loop over a collection of items and attach a relationship based on if a particular condition is satisfied. Here is my code
public function bulkAssign()
{
$trainers = MasterTrainer::all();
for ($i=0; $i < count($trainers); $i++) {
$this->assignToManager($trainers[$i]);
}
// return redirect()->back()->with('success', 'Project Managers Assigned Successfully');
}
private function assignToManager($trainer)
{
$manager = ProjectManager::where('state', $trainer->state)->first();
return $trainer->update([
'project_manager_id' => $manager->id
]);
}
What I get is it attaches only the first manager to all the elements in the collection. What am i doing wrong?
can you inline the func for now? do some sort of echo/debugging?
but also I see several issues:
yes do use foreach because that is a bit better and you avoid having to use $i (making code a little more easy to read)
you are not attaching a relationship, you are setting a project_manager_id (i say this because initially i automatically thought you were going to dynamically add a relationship to model)
without knowing your db schema.. could you not do some sort of trick to avoid having to do this nth times?
$manager = ProjectManager::where('state', $trainer->state)->first();
you could either do:
$states = $trainers->pluck('states');
$managers = // do a query to get one trainer per state using group by
foreach ($trainers... ) {
$manager = $managers->where('state', $trainers->state)->first() // this is collection not eloquent
$trainer->update([
'project_manager_id' => $manager->id
]);
other would be to create a scope where you do a sub query to get manager id when u query for trainers

I am facing issue with a scenario that I have to show data in two different grids present on same view. I don't want to query separately for both grids. What I want to achieve is to query only once and split data for both grids separately and pass it to both grids.
I have the option to hide rows on type basis but I don't want to use this
I have tried the option to hide rows on type basis but I don't want to use this option. I want something to split the main data provider into two data providers
The only way to do that with yii\data\ActiveDataProvider is extending it and overriding its prepareModels() and prepareKeys() methods.
Other option is to use yii\data\ArrayDataProvider instead.
//simple query just for illustration, modify it as you need
$all = MyModel::find()->all();
$first = $second = [];
foreach ($all as $item) {
// condition to decide where the current item belongs
if (someCondition) {
$first[] = $item;
} else {
$second[] = $item;
}
}
$firstProvider = new \yii\data\ArrayDataProvider([
'allModels' => $first,
]);
$secondProvider = new \yii\data\ArrayDataProvider([
'allModels' => $second,
]);
The main disadvantage of using ArrayDataProvider is, that you have to load all models into array even if you plan to use pagination. So if there are many rows in your table, it might be better to use two independent ActiveDataProvider and let them load the data in two queries.
I have 2 models Tour.php
public function Itinerary()
{
return $this->hasMany('App\Itinerary', 'tour_id');
}
and
Itinerary.php
public function tour()
{
return $this->belongsTo('App\Tour', 'tour_id');
}
tours table:
id|title|content
itineraries table:
id|tour_id|day|itinerary
I have used vue js to create or add and remove input field for day and plan dynamically. And used the following code in tour.store method to insert into itineraries table:
$count = count($request->input('day'));
$temp_day = $request->input('day');
$temp_itinerary = $request->input('itinerary');
for($i = 0; $i < $count; ++$i)
{
$itinerary = new Itinerary;
$itinerary->tour_id = $tour->id;
$itinerary->plan = $temp_itinerary[$i];
$itinerary->day = $temp_day[$i];
$itinerary->save();
}
And was successful in inserting the records.And applied same code in tour.store method. Instead of updating the rows, it inserted new rows to the table. What would be the best solution for this ?
For updation try this code
$itinerary = Itinerary::find($tour_id);
$itinerary->plan = $temp_itinerary[$i];
$itinerary->day = $temp_day[$i];
$itinerary->save();
The way you are using is to insert/create new records. To update you can use.
Itinerary::find($tour_id)->update(
['column_name'=> value]
);
Where find method takes a primary key of the table.
This will update your existing record. You can update as many columns as you want just pass in array update takes. You can also use save method as mentioned in other answer.
Check Laravel Update Eloquent
EDIT
$iterneary = Itenerary::where('tour_id', $tour_id)->first();
Now you can update this iterneary object to whatever you want.
this is how i did it. First saved all the tours in $tours[] array.
foreach($tours as $tour) {
$itinerary->tour()->updateOrCreate(['id'=> $tour['id']],$tour);
}
updateOrCreate because you may need to add new tours while updating. I know this doesnt answer your issue exactly but this could atleast give you an idea.
I am having difficulty sorting my data results alphabetically when matching them with the User that has placed the item in their "Locker".
I have two queries; the first one searches the database for all of the items that the user placed in their 'locker', and the second query pulls the details of the item and sorts them into a list by which brand the items are.
I feel like there is a better way to do this rather than forcing the page to run the query once for each item, but am not sure the proper way to write out the mySQL in the most efficient way that works.
I think the solution would be to pull all IDs as an array, then somehow search and sort all of their associated brands in the second query.
I currently have:
//$lockerid is pulled earlier in the code based on which locker number is associated with this user
// Pull all of the items and their ids that are in this users locker
$userlockerquery= mysql_query("SELECT DISTINCT item_id FROM lockers WHERE user_id = '$profile_userid' AND locker_id ='$lockerid' ");
while($lockeritems=mysql_fetch_array($userlockerquery)){
$indi_item=$lockeritems[item_id];
$lockeritemdetails = mysql_query("SELECT DISTINCT brand FROM inventory WHERE id = '$indi_item' ");
$brands=mysql_fetch_array($lockeritemdetails );
$brandname=$brands[brand];
echo '<div>'.$brandname.'</div>';
}
Although the results do show up with all of the brands, My problem seems to be that since the query is ran once for each items id, it cannot have the list results talk to each other, and thus cannot have them ordered by ASC alphabetically, since the query is ran once per each item.
Also because of this, the DISTINCT flag does not have any effect, since it is not matching against any other results.
As an example, my results would return in divs in order of ID instead of brand, and repeating:
Nike
Puma
Puma
Converse
Rather than
Converse
Nike
Puma
Adding the ORDER BY flag to the second query did not help, so I figured I would try to ask here for some ideas. Please let me know if any other details are needed!
Maybe try something like this class. See if it will work for your needs. It's hard to check it without trying the sql queries, but provided I've written it properly, it should work.
class MyLocker
{
// Protected means that you can't use this variable outside of the functions/class
// so you can not use $myLocker->_array; It will throw an error
protected $_array;
// Construct is basically used as an auto-function. It will execute automatically
// when you create a new instance of the class so as soon as you do this:
// $myLocker = new MyLocker($_locker); you initiate the __construct
// When you label as public, you allow it to be used outside of itself
public function __construct($_array)
{
// When you set this variable, it is now open to use in all
// other functions in this class.
$this->_array = $_array;
}
// This is the method that will do everything
public function LockerContents()
{
// Loop through query. Since the $_array was set in the __construct
// it is available in this function as $this->_array
while($lockeritems = mysql_fetch_array($this->_array)){
// $brand is something we want to use in other functions but not
// outside the class so it is set here for use in the Fetch() function
$this->brand = $lockeritems['item_id'];
// We ant to use our Fetch() function to return our brand
$_brand = $this->Fetch();
// If brand available, set it to an array
if(!empty($_brand))
$array[] = $_brand;
}
if(isset($array)) {
// Sort the array
asort($array);
// Finally, we use the Display() function for the final output
$this->Display($array);
}
else { ?>
<div>Locker is empty.</div><?php
}
}
// Establish this as an in-class variable
protected $brand;
// Establish this as a public function incase we want to use it by itself
// To do so you would write $myLocker->Fetch(); outside of the class.
// Since you need $brand for this function to work, you would need to turn
// $brand from "protected" to "public" and write $myLocker->brand = 'whatever';
// before you run the $myLocker->Fetch();
public function Fetch()
{
$query = mysql_query("SELECT DISTINCT brand FROM inventory WHERE id = '".$this->brand."'");
$brands = mysql_fetch_array($query);
// Return brand
return (isset($brands['brand']))? $brands['brand']:"";
}
protected function Display($array)
{
if(is_array($array)) {
foreach($array as $object) { ?>
<div><?php echo $object; ?></div><?php
}
}
}
}
// You should be using mysqli_ or PDO for your db connections/functions.
$_locker = mysql_query("SELECT DISTINCT item_id FROM lockers WHERE user_id = '$profile_userid' AND locker_id ='$lockerid' ");
// If there are more than 0 rows, create locker.
if(mysql_num_rows($_locker) > 0) {
// Create new instance of the locker app
$myLocker = new MyLocker($_locker);
// Display the results
$myLocker->LockerContents();
}
I have a AR model that I am trying to duplicated but just need to manually change the foreign key.
$_POST['competition_id'] = 99;
$prizes = CompetitionPrizes::model()->findAll('competition_id =:competition_id',array(':competition_id'=> $_POST['competition_id']));
This query basically queries the prizes table and gets all the rows for a particular competition. With the prizes object I would like to basically re-insert/duplicate the same information except the competition id which I want to manually set.
I did something similar for an AR object that basically only has one row and that worked well, however in this instance as a competition can have more than one prize this same code won't.
// My existing code for duplication process
$obj = Competitions::model()->find('competition_id=:competition_id', array(':competition_id' => $post['competition_id']));
$clone = clone $obj;
$clone->isNewRecord = true;
unset($clone->competition_id); // i want to remove this so it is auto inserted instead via the db
$clone->save();
This works great - how would I modify this on a 'collection' of prizes and have this duplicated into the database while setting my own 'competition_id' value.
Note - i'm to new to Yii, so please let me know if I have made any obvious errors/bad practice
Cloning won't work. You need to assign the attributes to a new object:
$obj = Competitions::model()->find('competition_id=:competition_id', array(':competition_id' => $post['competition_id']));
$clone = new Competitions;
$clone->attributes = $obj->attributes;
$clone->save();
If a more generic way of duplicating a Model / ActiveRecord in Yii2 Framework is required, you might use this solution:
$copy = clone $model;
$copy->isNewRecord = true;
foreach ($model->getPrimaryKey(true) as $field => $value) {
unset($copy->{$field});
}
$copy->save();

The answer for my problem although Michiel above helped me out - alternatively if you wouldn't mind adding another answer i'll give you the accepted answer.
foreach($models as $model)
{
$clone = new Competitions;
$clone->attributes = $model->attributes;
$clone->competition_id = '123' // custom var i am setting manually.
$clone->save();
}
How about (yii2 syntax):
$model=Competitions::findOne([':competition_id' => $post['competition_id']]);
$model->id = null;
$model->isNewRecord = true;
$model->save();
Suppose we have a set of entities:
$entities = $em->getRepository('MyBundle:Entity')->findBy(array('cat' => 1));
What is the best way to pick up a single entity out of this set by ID? Of course I can search for it with a loop or with array_filter, e.g.:
$entity = null;
foreach ($entities as $_entity) {
if ($_entity->getId() == $id) {
$entity = $_entity;
break;
}
}
But maybe there is a build in Symfony/Doctrine method for that?
Hi you can use the filter method from the ArrayCollection class, but it's not so different from looping entities like you're doing
$idToSearch = $n;
$newCollection = $entities->filter(
function($entity) use ($idToSearch) {
return $entity->getId() == $idToSearch;
}
);
You need to iterate through them with foreach, although that scales very poorly. Depending on the amount of results you expect, it could be faster to simply run two queries.
