I want to display all my custom post type project images on a template page, such as single-project.php, but the url doesn't display like I want it to.
It should be 'sitename/projects/' but it displays like 'sitename/projects/slug-of-post'.
Is there a way to modify the 'slug-of-post' ?
OR should I be creating an archive-projects instead to achieve that url since it does display 'sitename/project/' ? or is that wrong to use it like that?
If you want to display the images on a page through using a page template you will be able to choose the page slug as you please.
Then what you want is a page template file like this: https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/template-files-section/page-template-files/#creating-custom-page-templates-for-global-use
This will have something like this in the file header:
<?php /* Template Name: Example Template */ ?>
Alternatively, yes, have an archive-projects.php to display an archive (collection of all content) of the post type.
Make sure your custom post type has an archive.
See has_archive in the documentation of register_post_type():
https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/register_post_type/
This can also be changed for already registered post types (eg if a plugin registered the post type)

I am trying to make a plugin that will display custom page when a parameter is present in the URL. For example, let's say that the URL of a post is localhost/wp/2018/03/22/postname/, it displays post normally as expected. What I want to achieve, is when I specify URL as localhost/wp/2018/03/22/postname/?param=1, I want to display page that I will generate with the plugin. I made a function that works when the parameter is present and it echoes some example content, however, it merges with what WordPress normally displays. So when I put the parameter into URL I get a regular page with post and my content somewhere in the middle. I want to display only the page that i generate from scratch, from <html> to </html> with my plugin. How can I do that?
There is a filter in WordPress called template_include this filter is executed before any output is displayed on the WordPress generated page.
You can override the current template via this filter as soon as you find the parameter and value in the URL. E.g. below is a filter I was using in a project to override archive & single template for a certain CPT:
function em_templates($template) {
if(get_query_var('post_type') == 'xyz' ) {
return FMM__DIR__ . '/templates/archive-xyz.php';
}
return $template;
}
add_filter('template_include', 'em_templates', 1, 1);
You can adopt this logic for parameter and use this WordPress filter to take over the template process and display yours own.
I need to add a header Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * into one of my template files. How would I do this I would like it to be for just this specific template so that its not site wide,
I think you're looking for is_page_template();
<?php
if(is_page_template('your-page-template.php')) { //Change this to the path to your wordpress template
//Add your code here...
} ?>
you can create a custom template page and call the custom Header on this template.
To create a page and apply a page template
use this code to create page template
First you need to have a single page. There are several ways to do it, one is to create a page in wordpress, then use the ID and create a file page-ID.php in the theme folder. Other way is to create a template file which you can select from the side menu in the wordpress editor.
In that page, you can add the php header and the code you want to show.
I have created html pages and trying to convert into wordpress theme,how to link html one page to other page in wordpress menu bar
sample code :
Features
this code is not working,it 's showing page not found.how to make this link in wordpress using php code.
Firstly Create Page "Features" from wp-admin.
Create template for this page.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Stepping_into_Templates
To set this page in menu Go in "Menu" section in WordPress.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Appearance_Menus_Screen
To view this menu in fronted use wp_nav_menu()
Take example template from your theme.
This is file in theme ending with -page.
Change template name in head of a file.
Then remember about the_loop all should be inside a loop to work correctly with many pages.
Put html there, also in header.php attach css to this html.
Page structure is like, header in the up, then page and then footer.
Remember to preserve good html structure - divs beginning and ending.
Then you create a page with content ( which is presented in the_loop ) , which has its own url address.
You can set url naming of pages in settings -> permalinks, you may need to write to .htaccess file.
Then you have direct url to page. You can use it in code like this:
echo bloginfo('url'). 'nameofpage';
All to do is create a template and assign it to page ( on page edit page template option ).
You can use pages or posts for this, i prefer pages.
Create new pages or posts and get their ID.
For linking its:
Get link with this:
get_permalink( $yourPostOrPageID ); // only get; not echo
Otherwise
Wordpress homepage link:
get_bloginfo('home');
Category or custom taxonomy term link:
get_term_link( $term, $taxonomy );
I would like to create a metabox in the section of edit post menu. Like Tags for exemple, BUT instead of inserting tags I would like to put a link (ex. http://www.google.com) + name.
This link should go right to the end of my post content as a hyperlink with "Source: Name (hyperlinked by specified link)
Here is an example of what I am needing:
Title
This post is for example
Source: Google
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.
You can use the Custom Fields in Wordpress posts to add extre information to a post, then in your theme you can just grab the values. Here is what I use on my blog:
$custom_fields = get_post_custom($post_id);
if(!empty($custom_fields['article_source_url'][0]) && !empty($custom_fields['article_source_title'][0])){ ?>
<strong>Source</strong>: <?php echo($custom_fields['article_source_title'][0]); ?>
<?php }
Then in your wordpress post just add a Source URL and Title in the custom fields box:
You can use WP's Custom Fields to denote specific parameters for each page/post.
Then, in the template, just call them like this:
<?php
$custom_fields = get_post_custom();
var_dump($custom_fields);
?>
Note that they are arrays, so in case you have a field named URL, you'd need to call it like
echo $custom_fields['URL'][0];
This is done like this so you can have multiple values for the same field.
Also, in order to see the Custom Fields box, you need to go to the Screen Options (top right of the edit page) and enable them.
I need to access the footer inside a wordpress theme via a url. Ideally it would just render the footer data and nothing else, alternative suggestions welcomed though.
To add some context, the data will be fetched through the url and a script will read the markup. This data will then be cached and available through Magento where it is needed to be displayed..
Is there a url path that will display it or should I make a new page that can be called via the base-url+the-page-name???
There's nothing built in to do that. You could use the AJAX API in your theme or a plugin and accomplish it.
You hook into an action that gets sent as a URL or POST data parameter and then make a request to yoursite.com/path/to/wordpress/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php.
<?php
add_action('wp_ajax_so20495429_display_footer', 'so20495429_display_footer');
add_action('wp_ajax_nopriv_so20495429_display_footer', 'so20495429_display_footer');
function so20495429_display_footer()
{
get_footer('ajax');
}
This will work for all users, logged in or not, despite the wp-admin URL. Here is code above wrapped up in a plugin.
what you can do is make a wordpress custom page template.
If you dont know how heres a little tutorial : http://www.expand2web.com/blog/custom-page-template-wordpress/
Now you want the custom page template to only load the footer (add the html, head and body opening tags yourself)
if you create a new page with your page template seletced it will only output the footer.
Hope you can get it to work
Greetings

What about $footer_url=get_template_directory_uri().'/footer.php'; ?
