I'm fetching data from database, inside foreach loop i have to add one array index list_array
$list = Lists::where('name',$request->name)->get();
$Data=[];
foreach($list as $key => $list_row)
{
$list_row['list_array'][]=$list_row['data_1'];
$list_row['list_array'][]=$list_row['data_2'];
$Data[]=$list_row;
}
It should be of array type but when i declare it as array it is not working,
message: "Indirect modification of overloaded property
App\Models\Lists
Any solution to create list_array as an array index inside foreach loop. Thanks
You are not dealing with an array, you are dealing with an App/Models/Lists model. What you probably instead want to do is adding a custom attribute to the model. This happens one step before.
// your model
class Lists
{
protected $appends = ['list_array'];
public function getListArrayAttribute()
{
$data = [
// your array data from where ever
];
return $data;
}
}
You then can access (without adding it when you want to access the data) the new attribute from within the model, like so:
// where you access your data
$lists = Lists::where('name', 'whatever')->get();
foreach($lists as $list) {
dd($lists->list_array)
}
You can read more about the so called Accessors here:
https://laravel.com/docs/8.x/eloquent-mutators#defining-an-accessor (Laravel 8)
https://laravel.com/docs/9.x/eloquent-mutators#defining-an-accessor (Laravel 9)
I hope I got the intention of your question right. From your question it's not very clear what data you want to add and where it is coming from. There might be other and better ways too.
Edit:
Based on the comment from #user3653474 the Accessor function could look like this.
public function getListArrayAttribute()
{
$data = [
$this->data_1,
$this->data_2,
];
return $data;
}
data_1 and data_2 are the column names in the table of the same model.

I've a very big doubt about how works laravel for a very simple thing:
If I call:
$companies=User::All();
Then I can use statement like this in a forach:
foreach($companies as $company)
$company['new_field']= 'something';
If i'm limiting the output of the query like:
$companies = DB::table('companies')
->select('id','name','email','business_name',...)->get();
The things doesnt work as before,
I try with or without the ->get()
I try to convert with ->toArray() (errors rised)
I try with put() and push() for collections method and agains errors...
How can I add a field in every item of the collection just to pass it to a view?
Try like this, hope it works for you:
$users=User::select('id','name','email','business_name',...)->get()->toArray();
and then use foreach loop like this:
foreach($users as $key => $value ){
$users[$key]['newField'] = "Demo";
}
If you are using Laravel and model in it so there is a better way to add custom attribute or field here is what i do for custom field
For Example :
There is a Model Name User
so in User Model
add a property name appends like :
class User extends Model
{
protected $appends = ['new_field'];
public function getNewFieldAttribute() // defining field logic here
{
return // your code
}
So you no need to use foreach and looping and adding new field
for more have a look on laravel doc : https://laravel.com/docs/5.5/eloquent-mutators#accessors-and-mutators
Suggestion
you can limit your output with Model too.
User::select('id','name','email','business_name',...)->get();
if you are making an array like
User::select('id','name','email','business_name',...)->get()->toArray();
so this will also give you your custom field
I have a method:
public function winnerDetails()
{
$winners = DB::table('winners')->get();
//dd($winners);
foreach ($winners as $winner) {
$qrMainId = $winner->qrdetails_id;
}
dd($qrMainId);
}
dd($winners); returns to value of array but when i use foreach its returns one value. How can i get who value returns with foreach loop?
dd($winners) output:
and dd($qrMainId); return one value 44. But it should return another value of array 35; Thanks in advance.
To get array of ID's use
foreach ($winners as $winner) {
$qrMainId[]= $winner->qrdetails_id;
For just value use
$qrMainId='';
foreach ($winners as $winner) {
$qrMainId.= $winner->qrdetails_id;
If you want to accomplish this task in a Laravel way use the pluck method to map the array for the key that you want
<?php
public function winnerDetails()
{
$winnersId = DB::table('winners')->get()->pluck('qrdetails_id');
dd($winnersId);
}
I think you are not leveraging the power of Laravel here. Obviously, I don't know what you are trying to do but here are some pointers.
You should probably be making a model for the winners table now models in Laravel return Collections as does the DB facade you are using now. Now the Collection class contains alot of usefull helpers like pluck
At this point it becomes as easy as Winner::all()->pluck('id') and you got yourself an array of id's.
And if you would like to get them comma seperated or anything like that you can use the implode
And you would get Winner::all()->implode('id',',');
$qrMainId is a variable not an array.
It is modified in the foreach during every loop.
So your code has always the last element of the array.
Use an array to collect values like
$qrMainId[] = $winner->qrdetails_id;
or sql select directly the field you want.
I have 2 tables, one is magazine and the other is issues. I have set up their relationship like this:
Magazine model:
public function issues()
{
return $this->hasMany('App\Issue')->orderBy('date', 'desc');
}
Issue model:
public function magazine()
{
return $this->belongsTo('App\Magazine');
}
I have a query where I get magazines ordered by a column and then in foreach loop I am getting the first issue of each magazine and storing it in array:
$magazines = Magazine::with('issues')->orderBy('order')->get();
foreach ($magazines as $magazine)
{
$issues[] = $magazine->issues()->first();
$images[] = $magazine->issues()->first()->image;
}
But, I would like to make a collection instead of an array. I am not sure how can I do that kind of query or is there a way to somehow store values to a collection in a foreach loop?
There are several ways of doing this.
You can turn an array into a collection by doing the following.
$issuesCollection = collect($issues);
$imagesCollection = collect($images);
You could also initialize an empty collection and then use the push() method to append items to it. Check the documentation
Just use the map function:
$magazines = Magazine::with('issues')->orderBy('order')->get();
$firstIssues = $magazines->map(function($magazine) {
return $magazine->issues->first();
});
$images = $firstIssues->map(function($issue) {
return $issue->image;
});
The map method iterates through the collection and passes each value
to the given callback. The callback is free to modify the item and
return it, thus forming a new collection of modified items
I am a newbie to yii and confused how to do this.
I am working on creating a webpage.
I have a model in Yii(model1). At some instance I want to save few selected values to another table. Hence forth I have created a new model for new table (say model2). I have this code in my controller and does'nt seem to work
if(isset($_POST['model1']['mobile']))
{
foreach ($_POST['model1']['mobile'] as $id)
{
$model2->email = $this->email;
$model2->save();
}
}
What I am trying to do here is, in my model1 I have many attributes out of which I want to save only 'email' attribute to the second table(model2). This is giving me an error as "Model1Controller.email" is not defined. Am I missing something here?
Your $this refers to class variable, not to foreach $id
if(isset($_POST['model1']['mobile']))
{
foreach ($_POST['model1']['mobile'] as $id)
{
$model2->email = $id->email;
$model2->save();
}
}
I've been looking to a solution to my problem for a while without success so I'm asking here.
How can we return a json-encoded result on an array of objects (or just an object) containing private properties ?
Indeed, when you use json_encode($myObject), it won't display the private or protected properties, which are present everywhere in the model when using Symfony...
I'm surprised I couldn't find any method like json_encode that would call getters instead of properties themselves.
Any idea ?
EDIT
In that case I would rather do a unique function that looks like :
public function toArray() {
$vars = get_object_vars($this);
$result = array();
foreach ($vars as $key => $value) {
if (is_object($value)) {
$result[$key] = toArray($value);
} else {
$result[$key] = $value;
}
}
return $result;
}
in order to avoid rewriting every property name everytime...
But anyway I think I'll just create an array containing the vars I need, so that I won't touch the model (which is generated code).
Have you try GetSetMethodNormalizer ?
http://api.symfony.com/2.0/Symfony/Component/Serializer/Normalizer/GetSetMethodNormalizer.html
Ex. https://stackoverflow.com/a/6709828/520114
Right now there is no way for this. Only php serialize/unserialize handles the true serialisation of objects.
You'll have to implement them yourselve, or rather let objects return their json values themselves.
You will have to implement your own method toArray() where you expose all your private values in an array:
public function toArray()
{
return array(
'property1' => $this->myproperty1,
'property2' => $this->myproperty2
);
}
And call it like this:
json_encode(MyObject->toArray());
[Edit: this question is not about doctrine, but since you mention both symfony2 and the model, you can consider using Array Hydration for your model: http://www.doctrine-project.org/docs/orm/2.0/en/reference/dql-doctrine-query-language.html#array-hydration ]
