How To Delete a Specific User from Database? - php

Let's say I have an user registered on my website and they now want to delete the account.
I've a query to do that but every time the user uses this functionality the code deletes all users.
Here is my code:
<?php
// starts session
session_start();
// set values
$DB_SERVER = 'localhost';
$DB_USERNAME = 'root';
$DB_PASSWORD = '';
$DB_NAME = 'acoolname';
// creates a new connection to the database
$conn = new mysqli($DB_SERVER, $DB_USERNAME, $DB_PASSWORD, $DB_NAME);
// checks connection
if ($conn->connect_error) {
die("ERRO: Falha ao conectar. " . $conn->connect_error);
}
// query to delete the user
$sql = "DELETE FROM users WHERE id = id";
// logout user
if ($conn->query($sql) === true) {
header("location: logout.php");
}else {
echo "ERRO: Falha ao conectar. " . $conn->error;
}
// close connection
$conn->close();
?>

id = id always returns true, so the query indeed deletes all the users.
The safe way to delete a specific user is to use prepared statements, in order to avoid SQL injection.
Something like
$stmt = $conn->prepare('DELETE FROM users WHERE id = ?');
$stmt->bind_param("i", $id);
$stmt->execute();
$stmt->close();

Your WHERE condition compares for each row whether the id for the current row matches the id. In other words, the queries compares the field with itself which yields truefor every row. Therefore every row gets deleted.
You have to replace the second id with either a variable that contains the id-value for the current user, or with the id for the current user. The latter is susceptible for SQL injection. See this question how to insert parameters into the query, safely.

Delete last record only when a certain URL is present

I have an url as domain.com/abc?orderstatus=cancel
Now, when someone reaches this link, I want to run a query that deletes the last record from the database.
So this is what I tried:
<?php
// Code here for the way to connect to database and insert records which works
// Now I added this code so that only if its on the domain.com/abc?orderstatus=cancel url, it will delete the last record.
$orderstatus = $_GET['orderstatus'];
if($orderstatus == 'cancel') {
$sql3 = "delete from table order by CustomerID desc limit 1";
}
?>
However, this is not working for me. May I know what am I doing wrong?
ps: I tried to cut out as many sql codes which work so that it makes reading easy. If there is any info that I am missing, please do let me know and I'll put it in.
You can use MAX() for MySQL if you have autoincremented on the ID or whatever. MAX() will delete the highest number on the field you specify.
$sql3 = "DELETE FROM table_name
WHERE CustomerID = (SELECT x.id FROM (SELECT MAX(t.CustomerID) AS id FROM table_name t) x)";
//Execute that query
$query3 = mysqli_query($db_conn, $sql3);
If you want to perform DELETE on the basis of ORDER BY then you may have to write nested query. You will get a SQL syntax error if you go with delete from table order by CustomerID desc limit 1
<?php
$servername = "localhost";
$username = "username";
$password = "password";
$dbname = "myDB";
$orderstatus = $_GET['orderstatus']; // check for sql injections or XSS
// Create connection
$conn = new mysqli($servername, $username, $password, $dbname);
// Check connection
if ($conn->connect_error) {
die("Connection failed: " . $conn->connect_error);
}
// sql to delete a record
$sql = "DELETE FROM {YOUR TABLE_NAME} WHERE {YOUR WHERE CLAUSE} ";
if ($conn->query($sql) === TRUE) {
echo "Record deleted successfully";
} else {
echo "Error deleting record: " . $conn->error;
}
$conn->close();
?>

PHP mysqli increase value

I need to say that I'm a beginner on php, mysqli, but I want to learn.
I am trying to build an quiz script which store "SCORE" information into database.
I have the following "final.php" page script, which collects and inserts into the database, the current score of user.
What I need is that I want to keep the current score from database "eg: 213", and increase with current session score which will be "eg :10", so total score after that will be "213(old) + 10(current) = 223(total)
<?php
$servername = "localhost";
$username = "";
$password = "";
$dbname = "";
// Create connection
$conn = new mysqli($servername, $username, $password, $dbname);
// Check connection
if ($conn->connect_error) {
die("Connection failed: " . $conn->connect_error);
}
$sql = "UPDATE users SET scor='".$_SESSION['score']."' WHERE id=2";
if ($conn->query($sql) === TRUE) {
echo "Record updated successfully";
} else {
echo "Error updating record: " . $conn->error;
}
$conn->close();
?>
Everything working fine with that code, but all what I need is that to increase score.
Thank you to everyone for you patience and because you understand me that I am beginner.
You can update the existing value in the database by adding your amount to it. There is no need to select the score first.
So in your example:
UPDATE users SET scor=scor + '".$_SESSION['score']."' WHERE id=2
This can be exploited by sql injection, but its out of the scope of the question.
you can use the following statement
$sql = "SELECT scor FROM users (UPDATE users SET scor= scor + '".$_SESSION['score']."' WHERE id=2)";

Query records belonging to the logged in user

I've written the below query:
At the moment this pulls back everything from the MarketingCampaigns table, regardless of which user created the record.
I need to be able to return the result, which counts only the records created by that user.
<?php
$servername = "localhost";
$username = "root";
$password = "doimkr943k3f";
$dbname = "crm4";
// Create connection
$conn = new mysqli($servername, $username, $password, $dbname);
// Check connection
if ($conn->connect_error) {
die("Connection failed: " . $conn->connect_error);
}
$sql = "SELECT format(count(id),0) as id12 FROM MarketingCampaigns";
$result2 = $conn->query($sql);
$row = $result2->fetch_assoc();
echo $row["id12"];
?>
The below is a query I can see has been 'auto-generated' by the tool I use, which checks which fields the user should see in table view. I'm just really unsure how to convert this into the simple, single value SQL queries I have above.
// mm: build the query based on current member's permissions
$DisplayRecords = $_REQUEST['DisplayRecords'];
if(!in_array($DisplayRecords, array('user', 'group'))){ $DisplayRecords = 'all'; }
if($perm[2]==1 || ($perm[2]>1 && $DisplayRecords=='user' && !$_REQUEST['NoFilter_x'])){ // view owner only
$x->QueryFrom.=', membership_userrecords';
$x->QueryWhere="where `Complaints`.`id`=membership_userrecords.pkValue and membership_userrecords.tableName='Complaints' and lcase(membership_userrecords.memberID)='".getLoggedMemberID()."'";
}elseif($perm[2]==2 || ($perm[2]>2 && $DisplayRecords=='group' && !$_REQUEST['NoFilter_x'])){ // view group only
$x->QueryFrom.=', membership_userrecords';
$x->QueryWhere="where `Complaints`.`id`=membership_userrecords.pkValue and membership_userrecords.tableName='Complaints' and membership_userrecords.groupID='".getLoggedGroupID()."'";
}elseif($perm[2]==3){ // view all
// no further action
}elseif($perm[2]==0){ // view none
$x->QueryFields = array("Not enough permissions" => "NEP");
$x->QueryFrom = '`Complaints`';
$x->QueryWhere = '';
$x->DefaultSortField = '';
}
I have a table called membership_userrecords which includes the below fields.
You can see the PK value in the table and which user owns it.
I'm just not sure how to do the SQL query.
Can you help?
EDIT: I really need to work on my PHP syntax lol. Thanks #aynber
Assuming the username and the memberID are the same, this should be your query.
$sql= $conn->prepare("SELECT format(count(*),0) as id12 FROM MarketingCampaigns where memberID = ?");
$sql->bind_param("s", $username);
$sql->execute();
$sql->bind_result($row);
$sql->fetch();
echo $row;
I'm really unsure about your data here.

Use prepared statements to check user override credentials, user override rights, and delete MySQL table Record

I am trying to build an override feature so users can manually remove a MySQL table row if they have the correct rights to do so. The user is prompted to input the same credentials used for program login as well as the uniqueID for the row that needs to be removed. Upon hitting the 'Submit' function, I run a series of if statements/ MySQL SELECT statements to check credentials, user rights and finally row Deletion with the result output as an alert.
However, my alert shows up blank and the row is not removed so I know there is a problem with my if statements. Upon testing, I believe the problem is when I try to use the previous query's results to run the next if statement logic.
How do I properly determine if the MySQL query returned a row using prepared statements?
All help is appreciated! Thank you!
My CODE:
if ((isset($_POST['overrideUsername'])) and (isset($_POST['overridePassword'])) and (isset($_POST['overrideUniqueID']))) {
$overridePasswordInput = $_POST['overridePassword'];
$overrideUsername = $_POST['overrideUsername'];
$overridePassword = ENCODE(($overridePasswordInput).(ENCRYPTION_SEED));
$roleID = '154';
$overrideUniqueID = $_POST['overrideUniqueID'];
//connect to the database
$conn = new mysqli($servername, $username, $password, $dbname);
// Check connection
if(mysqli_connect_errno() ) {
printf('Could not connect: ' . mysqli_connect_error());
exit();
}
$conn->select_db($dbname);
if(! $conn->select_db($dbname) ) {
echo 'Could not select database. '.'<BR>';
}
$sql1 = "SELECT users.id FROM users WHERE (users.login = ?) AND (users.password = ?)";
$stmt1 = $conn->prepare($sql1);
$stmt1->bind_param('ss', $overrideUsername, $overridePassword);
$stmt1->execute();
$stmt1->bind_result($userID);
//$result1 = $stmt1->get_result();
if ($stmt1->fetch()) {
$sql2 = "SELECT * FROM rolestousers WHERE (rolestousers.userid = ?) AND (rolestousers.roleid = ?)";
$stmt2 = $conn->prepare($sql2);
$stmt2->bind_param('ss', $userID, $roleID);
$stmt2->execute();
$stmt2->store_result();
if ($stmt2->fetch()) {
$sql3 = "DELETE * FROM locator_time_track_out WHERE locator_time_track_out.uniqueid = ?";
$stmt3 = $conn->prepare($sql2);
$stmt3->bind_param('s', $overrideUniqueID);
$stmt3->execute();
$stmt3->store_result();
if ($stmt3->fetch()) {
echo 'Override Successful! Please scan the unit again to close it out.';
} else {
echo 'Could Not Delete Record from the table.';
}//End $sql3 if.
} else {
echo 'User does not have override permission. Please contact the IT Department.';
}//End $sql2 if.
} else {
echo 'Your login information is incorrect. Please try again. If the issue persists, contact the IT Department.';
}//End $sql1 if.
//Free the result variable.
$stmt1->free();
$stmt2->free();
$stmt3->free();
$stmt1->close();
//Close the Database connection.
$conn->close();
}//End If statement
NOTE: I am definitely sure my DB connection information is correct. The issue resides after I connect into the database. I have also tested the code using only the first if statement and get the blank alert so I'm not making it past the first if statement.
EDIT:: My php Script was definitely failing, but even earlier than expected, at the following code:
$overridePassword = ENCODE(($overridePasswordInput).(ENCRYPTION_SEED));
So my issue is that I need to properly compare the password and encryption seed information. However, the previous programmer used the following line to do the same process (which is obviously unsafe):
$querystatement = "SELECT id, firstname, lastname, email, phone, department, employeenumber, admin, usertype FROM users WHERE login=\"".mysql_real_escape_string($user)."\" AND password=ENCODE(\"".mysql_real_escape_string($pass)."\",\"".mysql_real_escape_string(ENCRYPTION_SEED)."\")";
$queryresult = $this->db->query($querystatement);
I will need to fix this issue before I can even test the functionality of the if logic using prepared statements.
Your are passing wrong variable for delete query
$stmt3 = $conn->prepare($sql3);

Display content if row == 1 if row ==0 do not display

So I have a log in script that creates a $_SESSION based on the username of the user logging in. On another page I wish to display content if the row for that user has a 1 in it. If it has a 0 in that row, then do not display the content. I am having issues here with no matter what I've tried, it does not display YES no matter the user I log in with.
test1 = 1
test2 = 0
<?
require_once 'dbinfo.php';
$sess = $_SESSION['authuser'];
$link = mysqli_connect($servername, $username, $password);
if (!$link) {
die('Could not connect: ' . mysqli_error($link));
}
mysqli_select_db($link, $database) or trigger_error(mysqli_error($link));
$acc = "SELECT username FROM admins WHERE username = '$sess'";
$result = mysqli_query($link, $acc) or trigger_error(mysqli_error($link));
ob_start();
while($row = $result->fetch_assoc())
{
if($row['access'] == 1)
{
echo 'YES';
}
elseif ($row['access'] == 0)
{
echo 'NO';
}
}
ob_end_flush()
?>
The solution was easy and Class pointed it out. Forgot to SELECT access... instead of username. Rookie mistake.
You have to write
session_start();
in all of your files that want to make use of $_SESSION .
And your select query will only output the username column, as you have selected only this one, try it with
SELECT * FROM admins WHERE username = '$sess'
or
SELECT username, access FROM admins WHERE username = '$sess'
instead.
What you absolutely should do is learning prepared statements, as your actual query is wide open to sql injections.
Prepared Statement example (from php.net)
if ($stmt = $mysqli->prepare("SELECT District FROM City WHERE Name=?")) {
$stmt->bind_param("s", $city);
$stmt->execute();
$stmt->bind_result($district);
$stmt->fetch();
$stmt->close();
}
$mysqli->close();
You can read more about mysqli prepared statements here
write access (column) and Try using isset() function and the operator === when you get 0 in a returned variable.
