Directory hidden on web browsers but visible on windows explorer - php

I'm having an issue similar to this
I cloned a laravel project from Github, after setting up the project on my local server (wamp) with a hostname for it, I typed the hostname on my browser (chrome) and got "500 internal server error". I had never gotten this issue before because setting up a virtual host on wamp is easy, I do it all the time.
Then I decided to view the project root directory from my browser and noticed that all the directories and files inside it were listed except the public directory.
The public directory is visible from my editor and windows explorer but is hidden when I try to view it from my Web browser thus making it impossible for me to view/run the app
How do I make visible the public directory on my browser?
Whenever I empty the .htaccess file in that public directory, it becomes visible on the browser but when I add the default laravel content of the htaccess file it becomes hidden again.
Please what could be the cause??
I tried setting the permission of that public directory to 777 using php chmod method but directory is still hidden from browser.

I finally saw the culprit.
saw this line SecFilterEngine Off in my htaccess file and when i commented it out, the public folder magically appeared. i really don't know why, maybe it had something to do with mod_security which was disabled.

.HTACCESS - Dump site from production to development

We recently have adquired the credentials to fully play with our website hosted outside.
So we need to mount it locally on a XAMPP stack to fully deploy the site and asociated database.
It've been already done, and everything seems to work properly except for the images in the site.
It is a DRUPAL site. Some images are "full path coded", so they work as we can expect, but major of them are just relative path coded.
Now, I've everything mounted on localhost. Let's say the folder with the site it's called "web".
Then i've everything on:
c:/xampp/htdocs/web/.......
So I access to it via: http://localhost/web/
I've tested that all the non viewing images, if I append the "http://localhost/web/" on the 'src="/site/..."' they are accessible and look right.
So, is there a way to via .htaccess add the "http://localhost/web/" on those URLs who hasn't it? It doesn't only happens with images, it's just related with all the links, urls, srcs, whatever which is just "relative pathed".
I've already tried the "RewriteBase /web", but it doesn't work.
Need help to solve this so, please.
In summarize, the site online is just mounted on the root, so everything works, fully or just relativetly pathed. But in my case, I've got the development site inside a folder, so I need it to work too!
Much appreciated.
If this is a Drupal 7 site (might work for Drupal 6) make sure you have a tmp directory set. Go to admin/config/media/file-system and look for the temporary directory. Also confirm that you have this directory on your root, which for XAMPP is the htdocs folder.
This might be a file permission that can be caused by incorrect .htaccess settings (This link may help: https://www.drupal.org/node/2140629) in the folder set as your temporary directory.
This may also be a document root error. You can change that by editing the DocumentRoot setting in C:\xampp\apache\conf\httpd.conf.
This stackoverflow link may help if none of the above suggestions bear fruit: https://drupal.stackexchange.com/questions/30113/configuring-the-temporary-directory

Magento not working after migration server and change URL

I have moved a magento site rackspace windows cloud server to another windows server that have plesk installed.
After migration I have changed my base URL from core_config_data to plesk site preview link and deleted all files from cache folder, Now when I am trying see my site using plesk site preview link firefox giving The page isn't redirecting properly error, on Chrome giving This webpage has a redirect loop error.
I have checked my plesk preview link with other files and see link is working fine but only magento not opening.
Any one know how to fix this?
URL Rewriting depends on your .htaccess file, so there are a couple of things to check:
web/seo/use_rewrites in core_config_data should be true.
when you created your tarball, did it include . files in the root directory especially .htaccess?
If you used tar -cvf archive.tar * then it may have missed them. (Nice "feature" of *nix).
Check that your httpd.conf has AllowOverride All, otherwise your local .htaccess will be ignored.
Did you changed both of "web/unsecure/base_url" and "web/secure/base_url"? if you changed only one - it can be not working.

Cannot remove index.php from url CI based site

I have Code Igniter based site and I have it on ubuntu 12.04 in /var/www/mysite folder
My ubuntu serves as a server so I access my site trough other computer, but both computers are on LAN network. I use http://xxx.yyy.zzz.ttt/mysite url to access it.
The problem I have is that I cannot use url without "index.php" in it.
So I have http://xxx.yyy.zzz.ttt/mysite/index.php/phpinfo To acces my controller phpinfo instead of http://xxx.yyy.zzz.ttt/mysite/phpinfo
I have cheked well that mod_revrite works well with this here
And also checked that the folder, files and subfolders in mysite have all 777 file permissions.
I also added all necessary rules in .htaccess file but still no success
Any idea what is causing this.
The first thing I would do is make sure you followed all of the CI instructions.
It may be that you did not update the config file to be a blank string rather than using index.php
Do you know what was the issue.
The default file in sites-available had option
AllowOverride None for /var/wwww
I set it to All and it worked out. :)
cheers :)

Why is Wordpress outputting phpinfo() when I try and go to a page?

I have just moved a Wordpress install from a remote host to run on my local development machine. On the remote server it's fully functional.
However, on my development box I can only load the homepage. Other URLs just load a standard phpinfo() page with no errors.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?
It sounds like you are using MAMP or WAMP on your dev box, which will load a default vhost showing phpinfo for any page that does not exist.
Inside wordpress, the settings, in the DB, it sounds like you have Url's "hardcoded" like "http://www.mysite.com" which are not working locally because your "dev" Url is something like "http://localhost"
Whenever using a development server, especially with wordpress, you should setup you dev server as close to your production server. This means you should edit your host file to make it so "http://www.mysite.com" actually goes to your development box or localhost. That way you are viewing everything as it will be when it goes to production.
I had this problem as well following the hosting company re-installing an SSL certificate.
I did some searching and really only found this thread which give me the idea there was a 404 error hiding there somewhere so I checked the php_errors.log file (which I found in the root folder of my site in FTP) - opened that in notepad and found many errors such as:
PHP Fatal error: Class 'WordPressHTTPS_Module_phpinfo' not found in /var/www/vhosts/mywebsite.com.au/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-https/lib/Mvied/Plugin.php on line 385
So - indeed a missing file in the wordpress-https plugin.
To correct, I renamed the folder which contained that plugin (eg wp-content/plugins/wordpress-https to wp-content/plugins/wordpress-https-disabled) - effectively disabling the plugin.
This then allowed me to login to the wordpress admin, install the latest version of that plugin - which worked fine and then deleted the old folder (wordpress-https-disabled)
Everyting was good as gold after that
Hope that helps someone :)
open httpd.conf in text editor
Change;
AllowOveride none
To;
AllowOveride All
I had the same challenge when I cloned my remote site locally.
I fixed it by checking the .htaccess file and correcting this line to point to the right project folder:
RewriteRule . /wordpress/index.php [L]

Symfony 1.4 installation and security issues

I have a shared hosting account in which I want to install my symfony 1.4 and deploy and application. I bumped into some issues because of the inability to change the apache config on the production server.
the structure of my web server is:
hosting_account_name
html <--- public folder
I then moved all files in symfony local app folder to my hosting_account_name and put the web folder content in html
So i got the following structure:
hosting_account_name
apps
cache
config
data
html
css
js
index.php
.htaccess
frontend_dev.php
lib
log
plugins
test
and i added the line bellow to config/ProjectConfiguration.class.php
$this->setWebDir($this->getRootDir().'/www');
I have a couple of issues though:
1. when i access the frontend_dev.php no images are due to the fact that symfony expects some files to be under a sf/ folder. Should I move the files there?
2. Index.php gives an error. Even with display errors set to yes and 500 internal server error is presented.
Also i had to set my permissions to 777 on cache and log. Their are under the folder html so that's ok for security right?
First, you said that the "public" folder is html, but you used $this->setWebDir($this->getRootDir().'/www');. Is it html or www? (Just to make sure)
Then: setting the sf_web_dir should work like you expected, so that shouldn't throw any errors.
To link the /sf Symfony folder, you will need to add something to your apache configuration. As described on the first page of the Jobeet tutorial, you will need to add an Alias to the /lib/vendor/symfony/data/web/sf.
If you don't have access to the httpd.conf, you could also add this to your .htaccess.
777 for log and cache is ok. It's what the default project:permissions task does as well.
