I'm trying to build a sentence from a MySQL query. I believe I have the concatenate part working, as I've substituted a static array in. Might anyone guide me in the right direction as to what my while loop would look like to produce the needed array? How can I create an associative array from my mysql statement?
$query = "SELECT name, dob FROM children WHERE personal_id = ?";
$statement = $db->prepare($query);
$statement->bind_param('i', $_SESSION['mysqlID']);
$statement->bind_result($name, $dob);
$statement->execute();
// Store the results
$statement->store_result();
// Get the number of rows
$num_of_rows = $statement->num_rows;
**//I believe my problem lies in this array ?**
$m_children = [];
while ($statement->fetch()) {
$m_children[] = $name;
$m_children[] .= $dob;
}
$num_children = intval($num_of_rows);
$children = [];
foreach ($m_children as $k => $v) {
$dob = strtotime($dob[$k]);
$children[] = "$v, born on {$dob}";
}
$tmp = array_pop($children);
if ($num_children > 1) {
$children_type = 'children';
$children = join(', ', $children) . ' and ' . $tmp;
} else {
$children_type = 'child';
$children = $tmp;
}
$children = "<p>I have the following ". $children_type .": ". $children .".</p>";
Overall your code looks okay. The grammatical parts are certainly solid (pop the last element, join the rest with commas etc...)
As you suspect, your problem code is that part that you've marked.
//I believe my problem lies in this array ?
$m_children = [];
while ($statement2->fetch()) {
$m_children[] = $name;
$m_children[] .= $dob;
}
$num_children = intval($num_of_rows);
$children = [];
foreach ($m_children as $k => $v) {
$dob = strtotime($dob[$k]);
$children[] = "$v, born on {$dob}";
}
Here's a suggested improvement:
$children = [];
while( $statement2->fetch()) {
$children[] = $name." born on ".date("d/M/Y",strtotime($dob));
}
$num_children = count($children);
There's no need to do two passes on the data, and you will need to format out the date of birth (otherwise you just get a timestamp). This code can then continue on to your grammatical formatting, which seems just fine to me.

I have an HTML-table, where various selections can be made. The selected variables that contain the respective values, build the array $data[]. Now, with this array I would like to make an SQL request where all selected criteria should be met. This means, that I need the following request:
SELECT * FROM fruitgroups
WHERE $selection[1] = $value[1]
AND $selection[2] = $value[2]
AND $selection[3] = $value[3]
etc ...
Can anybody please help me with the loop that generates exactly the string:
...
$selection[1] = $value[1]
AND $selection[2] = $value[2]
AND $selection[3] = $value[3]
... etc ...
...that I need for the request?
Thank you in advance!
You can make a SQL request like this:
$selection = array("one", "two", "three");
$value = array("Tone", "Ttwo", "Tthree");
$concat = array();
foreach($selection as $key => $var){
$new = $selection[$key] . " = " . $value[$key];
array_push($concat, $new);
}
$concat = implode(" AND ", $concat);
$request = 'SELECT * FROM fruitgroups WHERE ' . $concat . ';';
echo $request;
Run example
Similar to the answer above, but keep it simple and don't forget the single quotes around the values:
$clauses = [];
foreach ($values as $i => $value) {
$conditions[] = "{$selection[$i]} = '$value'";
}
$query = "SELECT * FROM fruitgroups WHERE " . implode(' AND ', $conditions);
Even better, use an ORM like Eloquent:
$conditions = [];
foreach ($values as $i => $value) {
$conditions[$i] = $value;
}
$result = App\FruitGroups::where($conditions)->get();
I'm assuming you are sanitizing your inputs first, of course.
I want to insert an array ($array) into a Mysql table (notification), I tried this but nothing is entering. How do I solve this?
$select = "SELECT * FROM addclique WHERE adder_id = :session_id";
$param1 = array ('session_id' => $_SESSION['id']);
$cliques = $db->query($select, $param1);
foreach($cliques as $key)
{
$array[] = $key['clique_id'];
}
$array[] = $key['clique_id'];
$notijfy = new Notification();
$notijfy->addCircle($array);
function addCircle($id_involve){
$escaped_values = array_map('mysql_real_escape_string', array_values($array));
$sql2 = "INSERT INTO notification(id_involve) VALUES (:id_involve)";
$param2 = array ('id_involve' => implode(", ", $escaped_values));
$result2 = $this->db->query ($sql2, $param2);
}
There are several ways.
I would just do something simple like this:
foreach($cliques as $key){
$array[] = $key['clique_id'];
}
$notijfy = new Notification();
$notijfy->addCircle($array);
function addCircle($array){
$insert_string = '';
$count = 0;
foreach ($array as $k => $v){
$count++;
${$k} = mysqli_real_escape_string($this->db, $v);
$insert_string .= "(" . ${$k} . ")";
if ($count < sizeof($array)){
$insert_string .= ",";
}
}
$sql2 = "INSERT INTO notification(id_involve) VALUES $insert_string;";
$result2= $this->db->query ($sql2, $param2);
}
Your major error is that you are trying to pass ($passing an array when calling the function, but in the function itself your argument is listed as $id_involve, when you obviously need an $array variable that you are using in the function itself. I also can't understand why are you trying to add an element to the $array variable outside of foreach loop in the beginning. Doesn't make any sense.
Instead of $this->db just use your connection variable.
I'm trying to capture a user's checkbox selection from a dynamically generated list of options but I'm getting "Array" instead of the names selected.
In my last test, I checked 2 of the three boxes and got 3 instances of "Array" back.
This is my query that finds the names:
$query = "SELECT id, first_name, last_name
FROM users WHERE location_id = " . $location_id;
$result = mysqli_query($connection, $query);
if (!$result)
{
die("Database query failed: " . mysqli_error($connection));
}
while ($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result))
{
$name = $row['first_name'] . " " . $row['last_name'];
echo '<label><input type="checkbox" name="emp_name[]" id="emp_name[]" value="' . $name . '"> ' . $name . '</label>';
}
I then post the array of names like this:
$attendee = $_POST['emp_name'];
And try to generate the list of names for my email like this:
$values = ('emp_name');
foreach ($values as $value) {
$$value = (array)$_POST[$value];
}
for($i = 0; $i < count($attendee); $i++){
$attendees = array();
foreach ($values as $value) {
$attendees[] = ${$value}[$i];
}
Can someone help me see what's wrong?
I changed my code and included a part of the html that I'm trying to render:
foreach ($attendee as $name) {
$attendees[] = $name;
$htmlBody .= "<tr><td>{$attendees}</td></tr>";
}
But it still returns Array.
Not sure why you do this:
$attendee = (array)$_POST['emp_name'];
Try to replace it with:
$attendee = $_POST['emp_name'];
From your question it's not too clear, but I think you're creating an array within an array,and that that's the issue.
If the above doesn't help, try to var_dump() the variable that gives you "Array" response, and you'll see what's within it.
EDIT: In addition to the change above, try to make this change too:
Replace all this code:
$values = ('emp_name');
foreach ($values as $value) {
$$value = (array)$_POST[$value];
}
for($i = 0; $i < count($attendee); $i++){
$attendees = array();
foreach ($values as $value) {
$attendees[] = ${$value}[$i];
}
with:
foreach ($_POST['emp_name'] as $name) {
$attendees[] = $name;
}
EDIT #2:
According to your code:
foreach ($attendee as $name) {
$attendees[] = $name;
$htmlBody .= "<tr><td>{$attendees}</td></tr>";
}
It's totally normal that you're getting Array instead of a name. See, by writing:
$attendees[] = $name;
you're implying to php that it's an array. On the other hand the foreach loop does the opposite thing, it takes each of the values from $attendee array and makes it available to you as $name variable. So you're basically doing the right thing, and then reverting it back to array for no reason.
SOLUTION:
Replace {$attendees} with {$name}. And it should work.
You can write that with alot less code.
$attendees will now contain your checked checkboxes.
$attendees = array()
foreach($_POST['emp_name'] as $name){
$attendees[] = $name;
}
Can't find quite the right answer so hope someone can help. Basically want to create an array and then return the results from a search e.g.
$tsql = "SELECT date, staffid, ID,status, eventid, auditid from maincalendar";
$params = array();
$options = array( "Scrollable" => SQLSRV_CURSOR_KEYSET );
$stmt = sqlsrv_query( $conn, $tsql , $params, $options);
$calarray=array();
while($row = sqlsrv_fetch_array($stmt)) {
$rowresult = array();
$rowresult["status"] = $row['status'];
$rowresult["eventid"] = $row['eventid'];
$rowresult["caldate"] = $row['date'];
$rowresult["staffid"] = $row['staffid'];
$rowresult["ID"] = $row['ID'];
$rowresult["auditid"] = $row['auditid'];
$calarray[] = $rowresult;
}
I would then like to search for values matching 'caldate' and 'staffid' and return the associated entry in $calarray
I suggest the following,
Fetch all data needed for the current month you are showing, using col BETWEEN x AND y
Add them to a array in PHP, with staffid and caldate as key
Something like so;
$calarray[$row['staffid'] . '-' . $row['date']][] = $row;
Not sure if a single staffid/date combination can have one or more events per day, if not you can remove the []
To check if we have information for a specific staffid/date combination, use isset
if (isset($calarray[$staffid . '-' . $mydate]) { ... }
Add indexes to the fields you're going to query, and then move the search to the sql query. You can also make simple filtering inside the loop. So you'll be populating several arrays instead of one, based on the search you need.
try this:
$matches = array();
$caldate = //your desired date;
$staffid = //your desired id;
foreach($calarray as $k => $v){
if(in_array($caldate, $v['caldate']) && in_array($staffid, $v['staffid'])){
$matches[] = $calarray[$k];
}
}
$matches should be and array with all the results you wanted.
also:
while($row = sqlsrv_fetch_array($stmt)) {
$rowresult = array();
$rowresult["status"] = $row['status'];
$rowresult["eventid"] = $row['eventid'];
$rowresult["caldate"] = $row['date'];
$rowresult["staffid"] = $row['staffid'];
$rowresult["ID"] = $row['ID'];
$rowresult["auditid"] = $row['auditid'];
$calarray[] = $rowresult;
}
can be shortened into:
while($row = sqlsrv_fetch_array($stmt)) {
$calarray[] = $row;
}
Maybe this code snipplet solves your problem.
I am not a PHP programmer, so no warrenty.
function searchInArray($array, $keyword) {
for($i=0;$i<array.length();$i++) {
if(stristr($array[$i], $keyword) === FALSE) {
return "Found ".$keyword." in array[".$i."]";
}
}
}
this is continued from another question i asked:
Listing out JSON data?
my search only returns 1 item, im pretty sure the problem lies somewhere in my php, im not too sure if im adding to the array properly, or it could be the javascript wich you can see on the above link, but i doubt it.
my php code:
function mytheme_ajax_response() {
$search = $_GET["search_text"];
$result = db_query("SELECT nid FROM {node} WHERE title LIKE '%s%' AND type = 'product_collection'", $search);
$noder = array();
while ($record = db_fetch_object($result)) {
$noder[] = $record;
}
$matches = array();
$i = 0;
foreach ($noder as $row) {
$node = node_load($row->nid);
$termlink = db_fetch_object(db_query("SELECT tid FROM {term_node} WHERE nid = %d", $row->nid));
$matches[$i]['title'] = $node->title;
$matches[$i]['link'] = $termlink->tid;
}
++$i;
$hits = array();
$hits['matches'] = $matches;
print json_encode($hits);
exit();
}
You appear to be incrementing your $i variable AFTER the foreach loop. Therefore, $i is always 0 throughout your loop, so you are always setting the title and link values for $matches[0].
Try this:
function mytheme_ajax_response() {
$search = $_GET["search_text"];
$result = db_query("SELECT nid FROM {node} WHERE title LIKE '%s%' AND type = 'product_collection'", $search);
$noder = array();
while ($record = db_fetch_object($result)) {
$noder[] = $record;
}
$matches = array();
foreach ($noder as $row) {
$node = node_load($row->nid);
$termlink = db_fetch_object(db_query("SELECT tid FROM {term_node} WHERE nid = %d", $row->nid));
$matches[] = array('title' => $node->title, 'link' => $termlink->tid);
}
$hits = array();
$hits['matches'] = $matches;
print json_encode($hits);
exit();
}
The $i wasn't incrementing the code as it was outside the foreach loop. By making a second array as above you don't need it anyway... (hope this works)...
